Every Labor Day you can walk across the Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) Bridge from the Upper Peninsula in Michigan to the lower.
Since 9/11 the staging area, the five mile walk, and the exit areas are lined with guys shown above, without the face covering but armed.
The northbound lanes are left open for traffic and the southbound lanes are used for walkers but this year the bridge authority closed off vehicle traffic for five hours due to “heightened security awareness about terrorist strikes” even though there were zero known threats.
Slowly priming us for more “normal” security.

To show you how things have changed, in 1985 the Golden Gate Bridge was closed to vehicles on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary. Then Mayor Dianne Feinstein and some 500,000 people showed up for the bridge walk. Some coming North bound out of San Francisco and another column marching South bound from Marin County.
There was no ‘security’ to speak of and the size of the crowd alarmed the Mayor and her police detail. The bridge deck groaned under the weight of 500,000 people who were pressed shoulder to shoulder with nowhere to go but 220 feet down into the water. Feinstein’s police detail got her off the bridge but nothing untoward happened to panic the crowd and people just had a good time out on the bridge.

I disagree about Ariana Grande being OK. She sings songs to her pre-teen audience about riding dick bicycles and wrist icicles which is about giving guys a hand job. Check out her song Side to Side. That is not OK in my book. And the parents here are either clueless or completely lacking any moral standards.
