“In reading The History of Nations, we find that, like individuals, they have their whims and their peculiarities, their seasons of excitement and recklessness, when they care not what they do. We find that whole communities suddenly fix their minds upon one object and go mad in its pursuit; that millions of people become simultaneously impressed with one delusion, and run after it, till their attention is caught by some new folly more captivating than the first.”
Charles Mackay, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds
“Nations, like individuals, cannot become desperate gamblers with impunity. Punishment is sure to overtake them sooner or later.”
Charles Mackay, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds
“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, one by one.”
Charles Mackay, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds
Behavioral studies & brain imaging show that a person listening to a story gives in to a kind of guided hallucination, in which the representational processes unfolding in the mind’s war room reflect not just the directly perceived world along with the internally generated anticipatory data & plans, but also an invented world that is induced by the narrative. ~ Shimon Edelman
DOW (mini) down – looks like a open of around -100
Another delusional day of a over valued market. Should be interesting to watch.
Hate to break your heart, but it’s currently up 289, and up 1.95% for the year.
Doesn’t break my heart Anon, I don’t play in the rigged casino. I do however enjoy watching the show. so I really don’t give a rat’s arse which way it goes.
BTW, if you don’t think this market is delusional, that tells me all I need to know about you.
You pay enough attention to make posts about it,
And I don’t have anything in the markets because I don’t understand their current valuation or what is driving it.
However, your assumption of my opinion of the markets without any reason to assume it tells me all I need to know about you.
Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. ~ Roger Miller
Deluge•ional can be fun & profits, too.
.001% have more fun & profits than others. Know wut I mean?
I see a rain wet, glaring, line between profits & thefts. Front-running a move, or an orchestrated move, isn’t profit.
I think it’s also illegal, but I don’t know how it would be proven,
Theft can be legal or illegal, but it’s always against the law. It happens a lot more than is proved, or even pursued; criminality, the jungle – legal or not – is the norm.
Mid-late 80’s the feebs infiltrated the pits in Chicago. Posed as traders. (Like Utah posed as a surfer in Point Break.) Bad ones, but Sammy(taxpayer) bankrolled & TBTF. They caught a few front-runners, took ‘em away. And lesson learned, nobody ever traded ahead of their order decks again. Ha.
