So Sunday morning I headed west towards the city to take my grandson home. There were some flurries as predicted. So I was thinking yeah, ok, no problem, flurries.
10 minutes later it started coming down a little heavier. Np..no biggie….about 10 minutes later it started to look like a blizzard and I was committed. I could not see 2 cars in front of me. This is about an hour and a half round trip but it turned into about 2 and half hours and I am still drinking.
I drive to various clients every day on I-35 / I-494 / I-694 all around Minneapolis. The drivers as fucking nuts. They like to drive in packs. If you want to have 4-6 car lengths in front of you – everyone will pass. They like to go as fast as possible, and then ride the breaks.
You are right about the pros also being less than perfect.
Lots of people shown going too fast for the conditions, including semis, obviously.
Did you notice the few who stopped responsibly, without banging into the vehicle ahead of them, were in many cases rewarded for their diligence by being rammed from behind?
Overall, pretty amazing video; I’m glad I wasn’t in the middle of it.
Ugly..! Nkit, I gave up on my pic of Sam. I am tech-inept and my laptop is 10 years old. Gives my husband fits, that’s why it’s mine now. But thanks for the instructions. Sometimes I can post pics and sometimes it just does not work.

LOL! Tickets all around for dumbassery above and beyond!
Note how it’s NOT a good idea to get out of your car in situations like that!

Last February my wife and I took a day trip up to Ames. Ended up with a blizzard. Thank god it hit at night, so most were staying inside.
We just dropped down to 35-40mph and slowly drove 35 back to Missouri. It was kind of surreal, we couldn’t see the other lane of traffic, and only rarely saw other cars. For 3 straight hours it was just snow filled headlights and white knuckle driving.
Agreed! Stay the fuck in your car. Stay the fuck in your car. Oh, and stay the fuck in your car.

Like the morons who were hit by trains last week going around RR crossing gates; maybe these people were exceptionally stupid because they were Useless Idiots self medicating with marijuana while using a phone while speeding on ice in a white-out.
You sure got a case of the ass for pot there, junior.
Do you drink? ’cause I’m pretty sure there’s a fuck of a lot more people raising hell on the roads who’ve had a snoot-full, than who have had a bong hit or three.
True and they shouldn’t drink and drive; but a social drinker can totally sober up in a day or so whereas Dopers will run a little high for a month because of the dope in their fat (esp heads). You are talking to an ex-Trainman and ex-USAF Pilot (no room for error at either job) who managed his booze (but like you say, some folks can’t) but understands cannabis, opioids, barbiturates, meth, crack etc, will get you and probably some others killed. That’s a big reason why I am a hard ass about dope, friend.
The residual amount of THC that remains in your fat is far below the threshold to have any measurable psychoactive effect. Yes it will cause a failure on a drug test. I have never heard anyone make the argument that you are making. I’m sure there is some questionable research out there from back when the only way to get funding was to find some previously unknown marijuana danger, but thats a bs argument. Regular marijuana users develop tolerance. First time users, infrequent users, and long term users who have not smoked for a couple of weeks get a very intense high the first few times they smoke. The level of intoxication rapidly diminishes and after a few days of regular smoking it is much less intense. If you smoke a lot of weed and have low tolerance you could reach the level of impairment that would effect driving. The vast majority of people in that category are likely to be sitting on a couch somewhere and not driving, but I will agree that marijuana could impair driving under some circumstances. But impairments months later? Really? You sound like a person who is very proud to have no personal experience with marijuana, but are also very judgemental about it. Most anti-marijuana lore is as baseless as tales of Russian collusion, but I guess if people hear it enough they start to believe it. Marijuana has been proven to have countless medical benefits. The discovery of the human endocannabinoid system is only a few years old. Marijuana is one of the few intoxicant (maybe the only one?) that can demonstrably be proven to have a positive impact on health. Use a vaporizer or eat it, and no lung issues. Marijuana has been proven to have anti-cancer properties, it has been shown to regenerate neural cells. Too many studies to cite in a short amount of time. Do you own research. Compounds derived from marijuana are effective treatments for scores of medical conditions. There are many non-intoxicating cannabinoids in marijuana that have the most promise for medical research. We 50 yrs behind in the research due to the drug war. People will look back at the era of anti pot hysteria and shake their heads
For the record I only use marijuana occasionally, mostly ingested orally for arthritis pain relief. I smoked regularly when I was young, never have had an accident driving (OMG I might still be high right now?!? thats what you think, right? It stays in your system….) Never knew anyone else who had an accident unless they were also drunk. All the other drugs you mentioned in your comment have nothing in common with marijuana and all would result in impaired driving. Marijuana? like I said maybe if you are a newbie or have no tolerance. Months later? get out of here dude
You mention a variety of cases where a little can have a drastic effect and others who can build up a tolerance. Then you assume with some exceptions, only the heavy users who can “handle it” will take to the road.
The problem is how do you determine what is a level where one should not be behind the wheel of a vehicle?
When compared to alcohol, the results of testing from alcohol in the blood are repeatable and consistent. For cannabis, it’s in your system for months even if your not high and as you suggested, it’s hard to determine a proportional equivalent to know how high someone is and can be problematic if the individual is involved in an accident.
So far, I’m not speaking for or against, just saying there needs to be some way of measuring cannabis impairment to allow people to know when or when not to be behind the wheel of a car. When a car accident happens, it’s not a good defense to say “I didn’t feel that high.”
I’m not sure that there is a way to do that other than a field sobriety test. Another factor clouding the issue is that a significant percentage users of hard drugs and alcohol are also have marijuana in their system when tested, even if they have not smoked for weeks. Those numbers are then used to build a case against marijuana although its impossible to determine to what extent if any that the marijuana was a contributing factor in the accident.
I am very skeptical that marijuana use is a significant cause of auto accidents. Thats just my personal opinion, based on my experience and from observing of my peers. As mentioned above, the correlation between testing positive for marijuana and being involved in a traffic accident does not necessarily mean causation. There has also been a concerted effort to make marijuana appear as dangerous as possible to justify the drug war. Compared to things that can not be legislated away like bad drivers, tired drivers or distracted drivers I suspect actual intoxication from marijuana only (as opposed to having it in your system) is way down the list
This whole issue is a lawyers wet dream, with high profile lawyers destroying someone’s life because they smoked a little weed a month ago, prior to an accident. Conversely a person who should not have been driving may get off on a technicality by the same lawyer. I hope something is in the works for testing, I fear there will be a lot of judicial abuses until some test is made available.
A heavy drinker might take a day or two, a “social” drinker who has only a few drinks would require a matter of hours.
Since MJ has been legalized in a few States for a few years, I wonder what the overall accident and fatality rates in them have done along with the increase or decrease of drunk driving (reducing drinking is often used as an argument to legalize pot)?
Here in the land of the worst traffic on the planet summer never left.
It’s depressing that we can’t have a few weeks of light rain. I know that everyone who has to deal with snow thinks it’s a stupid thing to complain about, but it really does get old (for me, at least, some people I know love it) to have seemingly endless 80-85 degree days.
Left Socal for Oregon a couple weeks ago to move Mom back here after Dad’s passing. It was nice to get actual rain for a change.

When you drive in white out, snow or fog, your point of focus will be drawn to the end of you headlight beam, which is much closer than you realize and much too short for reaction time.
Like in those “third eye” 3-D pictures, you have to consciously keep your eyes focused, without a reference, at a distance further ahead than your brain thinks it can see. Tail lights become visible a fair distance ahead of you if you are looking there.
And for petesake, slow down.

I-25 at East Lincoln Way is in Cheyenne Wyoming!
I-35 runs North/South through Ames, IA. Lincoln Way is one of the main drags.
Even Pro drivers (truck drivers) are pron to tailgate. How stupid is that?
What? Porn to tailgate…is that a veiled reference to butt-sex?
I speak stupid, allow me to interpret: he meant to say ‘prone to tailgating’.

Ahhh, midwest weather. Nothing like it, totally unpredictable.
Lived in various parts of the “High Sierra” for well over a decade.
…ever heard of the Donner Party?
-mind you, that was in October.

Sitting at a 4 way stop waiting for the sign ti turn green is annoying but rarely deadly.

Booze is straight blood level (BAC). Tolerance is immaterial.
I’m not sure what to say about this but I am ready for summer

With chains on, hitting 30 was the red zone for me. Over 25 was crazy, granted this was not an interstate where maybe, 30 was OK.
I wonder if they have emergency supplies in their car or truck?
