First, college or university is supposed to be a place to get a well-rounded education. It is not supposed to be a place for job training or anything similar. That is what trade schools are for. Indeed, your major puts you into the classes that will fulfill your educational desires, and will provide the foundation upon which a future career will hopefully be laid, but again, it is not supposed to be about “job training.”

The presence of federally-guaranteed student loans, has allowed nearly anyone to borrow nearly limitless monies, to attend college and get degrees in practically anything – regardless of whether anything one learned will be applicable in any future endeavor. Banks do not really take ANY risk when handing out these loans, as they are backed by the violence committed against the taxpayers, and cannot be abandoned as other debts can be through the bankruptcy process (I do not support the immorality of bankruptcy, but that is a tangent).

Can you honestly see ANY bank being willing to risk its OWN money to fund the education of a Gender Studies major (or countless other completely useless majors in the humanities or social sciences)? Not that I feel that all humanities or social science majors are useless, but the rise in these majors is yet another direct result of the presence of federally-guaranteed student loans in the marketplace. The most glaring problem of course is the elimination of the natural downward market pressure on prices that has allowed ALL college costs to skyrocket since the inception of the lending program.

My Gender Studies Professor told me to go get Al Bundy and head over to the Nudie Bar and…well, study. This one’s on me. No not the drinks.

As I have said before, be thankful for gender studies classes, so when you are hiring you know who to avoid.

Also she looked kind of cute and you might have asked her out back in college, and then 10 months or years later get accused of things, now you know to avoid people taking gender studies in all aspects of life.
