“Nearly every war that has started in the past 50 years has been a result of media lies. The media could’ve stopped it if they had searched deep enough; if they hadn’t reprinted government propaganda they could’ve stopped it.”
Julian Assange

The Media on a worldwide basis, not only on one side or the other.
50? I’d say at least 200, if not more. That said, the quote is a little naive- the ones in government pushing for war and the same ones in the media promoting it. It’s not ignorance or laziness on the part of media, but rather malice.
Actually, the same ones who own and control the media are the same ones who “own” and control the government and the same ones who own and control all the corporations who profit from the wars. And indeed, deeper investigative journalism, publishing of the truth, rather than the lies, would likely have prompted the general public to be against every war from 1812 on. For sure many rallied against the war to prevent southern freedom, but Lincoln jailed 1100 northern newspaper editors, completely in violation of the 1st Amendment, so it is not as though an independent press hasn’t existed nor tried to do the right thing. Government as always, has been the problem.
