This made me laugh. When my dog was about a year and a half old my family and I came home one evening a little late. It was winter and we’d forgotten to leave a light on in the house so it was dark. I could tell when I walked through the door something wasn’t right. I could smell what I later realized was DAMP wood.

When I flipped on the lights I could see the dog laying at the top of the stairs to the main floor with her face on the step looking at me. The baseboards had been chewed off the wall at the corner of the steps.

I walked upstairs and stepped over her and entered the living room. There was nothing left of my sofa but rags and a partially chewed frame. She had worked hard at it for at least a few hours. It took us at least an hour to clean it all up.

It’s a good thing my wife is such a nice lady. The dog lived. We made sure to leave a light on from there on in when we were out and my only regret now is that I didn’t snap a picture.

I once saw a solid wood basement door half clawed (and chewed) through by a Great Dane. A little more time and whatever was on the other side would have witnessed the frightful vision of a gigantic, snarling dog head sticking through a door.

Amazing how much damage can be done by a big dog in a short period of time. One of my dogs loved to tear the covers off raised beds. For several months he had not destroyed anything, so I thought he was over his juvenile antics, and so put a new cover on his raised bed. I put him on it, left the room for a glass of water, and returned no more than 2 minutes later. He had ripped the entire cover off the bed in less than 2 minutes. I could not have cut it off with a knife that fast.

Dog will be dogs. That is why we love them so much.

Dogs are pack animals and most do not like being alone for long periods. When left alone they get bored and anxious. Then the fun starts; things start getting destroyed.
