After more than a week of back-and-forth with the Democratic leadership, President Trump has called off his search for an alternative venue for the State of the Union according to a pair of tweets sent late Wednesday night.
Instead, he will reschedule the speech after the shutdown has ended due to the difficulty in finding a venue “that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber!”
As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address. I agreed. She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative – I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over. I am not looking for an….

Trump blamed the decision to reschedule on Pelosi, and rightfully so. The Democratic leader is refusing to pass a resolution needed to formally invite the president to give the address at the Capitol.
But lest Americans accuse her of pursuing political ends, Pelosi argued that “security concerns” motivated her to cancel the speech ue to both the Secret Service and DHS being affected by the shutdown, though both have assured the president that security wouldn’t be an issue if the SOTU was allowed to move forward).

Who knows how this plays out. I think it makes it look like Trump is chomping at the bit to give the speech, but Nancy won’t let him, which means she has shut down the government. Why won’t she bend and open the government?

Has anyone noticed the complete absence and silence from Hillary and Bill, the Obamas, and Bidens lately? With all that has been going on with the government shutdown, the Covington kids, etc. one would expect to hear something from them. Not sure what is up but seems like the silence since around Christmas is oddly strange.
Constitutionally the POTUS has the power to convene the Congress and deliver the speech…..but Trump doesn’t have the balls to deal with the resistance who control the Capital Police, would turn off the lights etc. Send in the marines, put the Congress critters in their seats and give the speech. My guess is the TV networks informed him they would not televise any SOTU address if given at an alternative location. They don’t want to create a TV ‘roadblock’ that would allow Trump to have an hour or two of Primetime to speak without having the scowling face of Nancy Pelosi over his shoulder, the likely jeers from the increasingly third world backbenchers and, of course, a Democratic response.
Its really too bad but I’m pretty sure that is the ‘real’ reason. Having Trump giving the SOTU directly to the American people must not be allowed.

From my chair, it looks as if:
– Trump staged the beginning of the border wall debate, with Chuck and Nancy, by sabotaging them with cameras in the Oval Office. This was reported on the nightly news that evening and firmly put Trump out ahead on this issue with American people.
– By drip-drip making little concessions (Bridge Act, Kushner’s green cards etc), Trump has made Nancy P look like the obstructionist.
– When Nancy suggestively denied the house for the SOTU, Trump denied her a bullshit trip overseas, making her look not serious and foolish
– Then he accepted her invitation by clearly getting out front of any her previously stated objections for the SOTU, only to have her appear to backpedal on the issue with another letter that made her look like a confused little bitch.
– Then, Trump, while looking ever the displaced and inconvenienced president, said he would shop around for another venue.
– But, when it appeared some centrist Democrats, in the process of having their wills broken by Trump, began to beg Pelosi for a compromise – then – it furthermore appeared Trump might get his way on his 5.7 billion….
-This was when Trump played the noble adult in the room and said: “OK, I’ll be patient. Wait for me. I’m coming soon.”
Currently, because Trump is consistently staying out front on every reality TV move, it could be the Dems are losing the empathy of the primary audience/demographic.

When I said “when Trump is impeached” above, I meant to convey “when Trump takes a flop” (not really a legit impeachment).
