Whatever your negative views of cops and excessive use of force, I think this was a righteous shoot. And if that asshole had killed my wife or child while fleeing I’d be pissed they didn’t end it.
Maybe he was a good guy and was fleeing for his life.
Why not a 3 a.m. raid and shoot him on sight? No flight, no chase, no danger, no problem.
Do stupid shit, win stupid prizes.
Trying to flee the popo with a loaded trailer on your pickup truck DEFINITELY deserves the stupid prize. Self fulfilling prophesy 101. Another panic attack ends in tragedy.
Moral of the story: Keep your wits about you. No one else will…especially if they have a badge, a gun and an attack dog. It’s all about knowing where the line is.
it was a legally legitimate shoot & we don’t know the backstory here so it’s hard to decide but imo there was also some poor decision making on the part of the cops–he was back in a corner,if the cop had rammed him instead of allowing him to back up, his vehicle would have been disabled–
we don’t know if he was armed or had a violent history & it still might have resulted in a shooting but it would have been better to have tried that first–
i also thought that the officer who swung out to pass b4 deciding not to was somewhat reckless–
Support your local police ! They would rather end a person’s life than scratch n dent the state’s property ! What were there- a half a dozen police vehicles in A PARKING LOT ?? With a small pickup and a little trailer??? They kill with impunity ! This cop must be new, in California, they will shoot 20 rounds, with a half dozen in the back, because the ‘perp’ had a phone that looked like a gun !
annuit coeptis novus ordo seclorum- now, rush to judgement……nobody could see what happened off camera at the start, except for a cop getting ready to turn his animal loose !
And, it’s a good thing the cop going left of center on the curve didn’t kill somebody in a head on !!
“annuit coeptis novus ordo seclorum”
Indeed…
The feral swine around here murdered an unarmed guy 2 years ago.
Coroner’s jury said justified, pig felt threatened.
Family sued self insured city and won civilly.
This was the pigs second killing in as many years.
Avoid the swine at ALL costs.
Just after the holidays, in this little town I live in, a young high schooler had become despondent from some occurrence at school with a teacher. He went home, got one of his dad’s pistols out and went to the river. He was on an old abandon bridge just on the edge of town, probably shooting ‘turtles’.
The local write up described the ‘officers took up position at both ends of the bridge’……and then were ‘forced to fire’ when the kid turned toward them !!
annuit coeptis novus ordo seclorum- THE KID DIDN’T FIRE !! He turned toward them ! The government and it’s media lap dogs have got these steroid taken’ idiots to believe they are HEROS !! Dressed in full battle gear, they dare not take a chance with their own safety…..and a young teenage white male with a gun is 2/3 guilty just because……well, you know…..school shootings and all !!
That is terrible!!
Here in the Great Central Valley of California the 2 cops who ended up shooting Stephon Clark in the back and killing him while in hia own grandmothers back yard will not be charged with a crime.
https://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2019/03/02/stephon-clark-sacramento-shooting-police-charges-district-attorney/
It seems people have already forgotten this
Even after a movie was made about it. Very sad commentary of our CULTure
Screw Steph Clark. When you’re high on 3 different drugs, commiting thefts and lead cops into a dark backyard, the situation might just get elevated. As far as getting shot in the back, video shows him facing the cops, presenting a dark object in his hand, then taking rounds. When you get shot, you tend to jerk, drop and/turn. GTFO here with your ignorance. As far as Fruitvale, you had a poorly trained monkey, dealing with several hyped up other monkeys. Shit happens.
Todd,
Wow! You refer to my ignorance, yet you refer to a group of individuals as monkeys. Let me guess you have a badge, a gun and a small penis right?
I’m sure the average citizen here in California has a few drugs running through their system….have you seen the number of pharmacies around town? It seems that a CVS or a rite aid or Walgreens is across the street from each other not to mention Wally World. And yes some pot, heaven forbid pot was in his system. Does this justify being shot to death?
I suppose if I relied on my training and have been prompted, when in doubt, “shout he’s got a gun” before I unload on someone, i will never face jail time. How novel.
Hey Darwin, I referred to both parties as monkeys, but definitely enjoyed your selective outrage. Demanding racism when there is none? Looks like you pulled a “Smollett!”
Also I was wrong about 3 drugs. “Clark’s postmortem toxicology report showed traces of a cocktail of powerful stimulants and anti-anxiety drugs in his body, including Xanax, codeine, marijuana, cocaine, alcohol and semi-synthetic opioid hydrocodone.” All that, and convictions for pimping, robbery, DV and child endangerment? Who knew that such a stellar character would make bad life decisions? Good shoot, gentlemen.
Todd,
My indignation with the Steph Clark killing doesn’t have so much to do with the character, or lack thereof, of the man; rather the fact that 2 police officers fired their side arms at a “suspect” towards the back of the house where the man’s grandmother and family members were, INSIDE! MIND YOU.
We all know how amazingly accurate storm troopers are!
It would be a very different discussion if one of the stray bullets hit someone in the house!
Good shoot my ass! I would love to see all the bodycam footage, not just the snip its the police department provided to frame the officers justification.
Good shoot! Rubbish….the badge does not make 14tuuou judge jury and executioner no matter how badly you “feel” threatened.
They didn’t choose where it happened. Clark did. Were they supposed to call time out and interview occupants of the home and all surrounding?
DA released his internet search history too. “How to die by cop” was prominent.
Clark pulled the trigger?
Ban Dark Objects!
Problem solved.
On a more serious note, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law the mind of any given LEO.
Charges: high on 3 different drugs, and commiting thefts
Verdict: Guilty
Sentence: Death
Remember rhis undercover officer from the Stockton CA area?
https://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2018/05/07/undercover-cop-gun-candy-convenience-store-mxp.hln
Get a gun pulled on you over a $1 candy
Cops should be beaten senseless.
Not for pointing the gun at the dude.
For such an awful, pathetic draw.
Don’t you think the position of the holster they are forced to adopt plays a part in that? When I open carry my Ruger Blackhawk, The grip rests in the holster at my palm. You want to see a pretty draw? Hold my beer!
the problem wasn’t that it was over a $1 candy, the problem is that the candy had been paid for & the cop was totally off base-
how is that relevant to all cops?
“how is that relevant to all cops?”
How is that question relevent to PlatoPublius’ comment?
I see two bullet holes in the windshield, from 6 feet away by the cop trying hard to personally get in front of the moving vehicle almost but not getting hit? Do they have silencers on those guns? Tiny pop-pop, tiny brain. I guess the sirens drown the shots out mostly.
This morning in Westminster, Ca they called out SWAT to place an explosive charge to blow down a gate and door for access to a “heavily fortified” house in serving a warrant for. ……….. wait for it………….. GAMBLING!
No kidding.
They hauled off a bunch of slot machines and arrested a bunch of filthy GAMBLERS.
Oh, and to add “legitimacy” to the action it’s claimed they siezed narcotics and firearms, too.
I’m shocked………
Police are getting to the point where they kill without even worrying about going to jail. It seems they do get away with alot of violence .Cops have aways treated me nice but I would think twice before calling them for anything
I guess he had reasons for not walking outside and talking. The minute he took off it was felony flight. His way out once this began was to stop and get out and throw himself on the ground arms outstretched.
I prefer no contact with the law.
They used to just hold up their hand and say: “Halt!”
Check this one out from Stockton CA again. A settlement was reached last year (took 4 fucking years) after a hostage taken in a bank robbery was shot and killed by the police in a high speed chase with the bank robber.
Stockton paying $5.75 million settlement to family of hostage killed during 2014 bank robbery
https://www.sacbee.com/latest-news/article215508955.html
You folks left out the four cops in Houston who killed the couple over a bogus drug deal. Bet all 4 get raises and promotions.
Cops…to Seek And Destroy ….Not To Protect And Serve .
Suicide by cop? Panic attack? Or just scumbag on the run? One thing is certain…dead men don’t write history books.
I remember this- was from last September/October here in Oak Ridge, TN. If memory serves, he fled initially on attempts to arrest him on outstanding warrants. When confronted, he jumped into his truck and fled and eventually was cornered in a parking lot near the Anderson County courthouse. I know the case is still under investigation.
What is the point of running from the cops in a vehicle? They have your license plate number. Even it you don’t get killed, they’ll find you, and then you might get killed.
If that’s true, then what’s the point of chasing?
