I have had experience with this same type incompetency. Along the side of the hospital where I work they had to create a sidewalk to evacuate patients in case of some emergency.

I watched them make a 3 foot egress walkway away from the emergency door and then a 100 foot long sidewalk parallel with the hospital wall.

Two major “duhs”… first, that side of the building has downspouts off of a tapered/nearly flat roof which drain to the ground outside of the wall. Secondly, they dug and then poured the sidewalk so that it sits about 2-3 inches above the ground between the building and sidewalk edge. They effectively made a 100 foot long pool 3-4 inches deep outside of the wall.

Of course the first heavy rain saw it fill up, warp the drywall and flood into the building under the baseboard.
I had told the engineer/maintenance guy while they were building it that this was gonna happen– he essentially told me to worry about fixing patients and leave the building to him.

After it flooded he avoided me–when the rain stopped and the water slowly lowered, then the ultimate stupidity came– a piece of black tubing on the bottom of the drainpipe, going uphill and then laid overtop/across the sidewalk was their solution……….tripping hazard on a hospital sidewalk ( built for wheelchairs and injured in case of emergency) and then on the next rain the tube couldn’t drain uphill so the pool filled again and flooded our offices again………

The world is full of idiots………

After it happens again, show up for work with a carpenter’s belt that is outfitted with a suture kit, bandages, a bottle of iodine, a sphygmomanometer, and a stethoscope in the hammer-holder. Don’t say a word, just walk by him with your “rig”.

Just picked up a load in Huntsville AL at the ” space station ” building for “outer space” . You talking about fucked up situation. There must have 15 ” workers ” to help load my truck . It weighed 20,000 pounds.
Such a waste of tax payer money. It took about hour for them to figure out if we had the right equipment to secure the load. I got another guy riding with on these coast to coast loads. We could have done it ourselves but I guess that ” government ” .
I was tempted to ask them if they knew the ” space station ” was fake. Or if they knew there is no Outer space . Or if they knew the ” “moon landings” never happened. That No one has ever been out of low Earth orbit but I didn’t want to get us kicked off of the base. Anyway these loads pay really well so I kept my mouth shut. Have a good day my fellow travelers on the beloved Burning Platform.

You didn’t tell them how the Earth is flat, did you? Some truths must be kept under wraps.

BB-

My dad was a hardware wholesaler, a ‘traveling salesman’, who covered a territory of about a 100 mile radius from home. As a young man, my dad always told me to look for a truck driver if I ever had trouble on the road…..that truckers were hard workin’, honest folks just trying to feed their families, and that they kept the country moving.

annuit coeptis novus ordo seclorum-today, it seems the American born truck driver is becoming an endangered species.

I remember when this song came out on the radio, I would hear it playing on the radio dad had in the kitchen that he would listen to as he had his cup of coffee and piece of toast every morning……around 4 a.m….before he ‘hit the road’ at around 5.. (if the link doesn’t work, it’s Red Sovine and Phantom 309).

Thanks LaGeR , I like Southern rock. I heard on the radio the lead singer for Blackfoot was retiring but his band would keep recording. Guess we are all getting old.

But if you put it at the lowest point, water will keep running into it….and then you will have to keep the pipes clear, the drain clear, and that is such a hassle. Don’t bother me, I’m playing Candy Crush.

That’s right, this drain was place at that level, so that it would not overload the waste water system, which is usually tied into sewage in old cities, and then results in sewage into the rivers, as most cities are near some body of water.

In fact, the old designs used rivers to wash away unprocessed sewage, now they just try to keep as much rain water as possible out of these systems.

in our town, they dig up entire streets, put in cisterns to hold immediate runoff, so that it can be emptied after the storms are over, and not overload the old sewage systems.

There are reasons for everything,
the reason the idiots at the hospital couldn’t get the walkway right was probably because the engineer who designed it was it was a conceited asshole.
