I think that pretty much describes most of Illinois cropland this year, if not a lot of the Missouri Bootheel and, even, down in Arkansas Razorback country.
Changes in social, economic and climate conditions arrived, but it will not be a crisis to the corporate farmers. They are subsidized for most of their financial loss. The food crop? Oh, well…. supply and demand determines the price, so a shortage means higher prices next year, right?
(That is gross oversimplification: Flooded cropland causes widespread problems for the entire region’s water supply. There really are some toxic chemicals stored in big tanks along the Big Muddy to help grow corn and soybeans, neither of which we talk bad about around here.)
