Dammit. Lost another one. Really hard to find good employees these days. He was probably looking at his phone like the last one. Here is what happened to my last receptionist:
Yesterday, morning radio show cautioned to be observant of school kids heading back to class, on the 1st day after summer recess.
I’m driving down a busy 3-4 lane boulevard to work at 7:30 a.m.
Speed limit is 45 mph, routinely broken by drivers doing 50, 55.
Approaching a red light, about to turn green.
Cars stopped in left and center lanes at the light.
Far right lane is clear and open, for anyone who shoots the gap if light goes green on approach. Typical.
What I notice?
A young girl, schoolkid, w backpack, strolling across the road, not yet past the middle and far left lane, ON A CELLPHONE, as the traffic light goes green, oblivious to the signal right-of-way, distracted, speaking to someone.
Now, if it was the far left lane that was open, and a gap shooter, changed lanes without knowing a distracted child was late to cross, it could have been a horrific pedestrian death.
And, the driver would suffer unrecoverable psychological trauma, besides vehicular manslaughter / negligent homicide charges.
At least 2 families would have their lives turned upside down.
-Distracted driving, and distracted pedestrians. Cell phones. Texting.
Jesus. Help me remember that it can wait.
I rolled down the window and yelled at the girl, who looked all of 10 years old…”Don’t DO that!”
She looked back at me like I was crazy.
Parents? Where are the rules and discipline lessons?
This time, a tragedy was narrowly averted.
I shudder to think how often it strikes. Llpoh’s video is tragic.
Stupidity.
Sadly, not the 1st time, and won’t be the last.
Be careful out there.
Teach the kids the dangers.
