The subway (metro for you Euro-Trash) in Moscow was built originally as bomb shelters for the city, the stations are very deep and occasionally there are mass piles ups if folks fall on the escalators. Yes, there is a bit of Soviet Realism “art” in the stations but nothing special and the stations smell of piss and vomit due to the high rate of alcoholism. Not all that special.
Hitler and Pol Pot had lots of cultural activities for the youths…..most authoritarians do.
The school system in the Soviet days was pretty good, mostly smart white Slavic kids and they did a good job on math, science, engineering etc. They learned English very rapidly.
The soul-killing party apparatus though meant that most human potential was utterly wasted…as shown in Chernobyl….party first people second.
