MEANWHILE….IN ESTES PARK

This happened in Estes Park while we were there yesterday. Idiots taking pictures of wild animals from five feet away deserve to be eliminated from the gene pool.

ESTES PARK, Colo. — Videos show a bull elk charging at a crowd and damaging a pickup truck in Estes Park Thursday morning.

In the first of two videos filmed by Karen Harrison, the elk can be seen charging at a crowd next to the visitor center. Many people flee. According to witnesses, one man was injured when he tripped while trying to run away.

In the video, the elk appears to attempt to gore a woman with his antlers.

FOX31 and Channel 2 are working to confirm how badly the woman may have been hurt.

In the second video, Estes Park public works employee Brian Berg can be seen driving a Ford Ranger pickup down the sidewalk. Berg stopped the truck between the elk and the woman. The elk then rammed the front of the pickup with his antlers.

“I’ve never had to do that before, but I saw people in trouble and I figured I could get there quick,” said Berg. “I knew the best thing for me to do at that point in time was to get the truck in between them”

Berg said there was an issue with the same bull elk Wednesday.

“I wish people would give them at least a football field length away, especially with the bulls this time of year,” Berg said.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife advises people to keep their distance from elk. The rut occurs during the fall, and bucks and bulls may “attack without provocation.” CPW suggests using binoculars or telephoto lenses to get an up-close look at elk.

CPW spokesman Jason Clay said the people in the videos were far too close to the animal.

“We are in the rut (breeding season) and bull elk will very aggressively defend their harems. Bull elk will fight over breeding rights. People need to maintain a safe distance from elk, even if they are at a building/facility/golf course or whatever human dwelling. Let the elk move away on their own, never ever get that close because something like this could happen,” Clay said in an email.

There is no doubt you brought the energy of TBP with you and the Bulls tuned in and decided to crush some wannabe’s.
“Attack without provocation” is what tipped me off.
1000 thumbs up to the bulls.

Very quickly they learn what wild means. All those people and a bull in rut equals disaster. How many gored today?

You can thank Disney and their animated talking animal movies for facilitating the expulsion of the stupid from the gene pool.

Yep. The closest I get to a bull elk this time of year is 100 yards with a .300 Win Mag.

Ahh you big sissy,…bow hunting the rut is the best experience! I don’t care whether I get one on the ground just getting them to come into the call is a chess match. Those bulls are super smart and work the wind constantly and then they want to see the cow….the satellite bulls will constantly bust you as will random cow groups….then of course there are the Grizzly bears who think you cow call is the damn dinner bell. So far this sesaon in my part of MT we have had 4, count them 4! bow hunters munched by the Grizz in the Gravelly’s…luckily nobody killed.

Living just north of Jellystone I can spot the idiot tourists who will play pet the Bison from a mile away……In extreme cases of “Cityitis” I will tell the tourists to not approach Bison they see on their tour of the park…..some listen, some don’t.

MH,side note, looked up your scoot, looks like a fun ride low center of gravity and all.

I also wondered how the hell I mistook it for a old chief!

I carefully looked at your photo again, imagine tan fenders(i.e. background sand) and was were I got the large fender look, hence thinking old.I can not as before mentioned enlarge pic and thus had to look extra close to realize me mistake.I never need reading glasses as read a lot but perhaps in me future!I think I have classic bikes on me mind all the time and just perhaps at time see what I want!

What are you using for a bow,I did not grab new at time Martin Lithium and now cannot find one anywhere to my dismay. My friend got one and likes it better then his twice as expensive Hoyts /Mathews ect.I am at moment just running a old Diamond Rock with ripcord drop/better sites at 70lb.I will look into glasses again before going out this season!Best of luck filling the freezer.

I started with a Hoyt and now run a Bowtech Insanity CPX (2017). I like Grizzlystik broadheads, Silver Flame….no mechanicals for me. I have been thinking about getting a recurve. I wish we could use an Atlatl, truly old school.

I’m just a humble meat hunter. One shot, over fast and early the first day, on my own property, meat hanging in the cooler by noon, then back to my normal work on the property. I enjoy my sissy life!

Whoever said the Escalade you rented was good protection from mooses, has no idea about the size of those animals.

Most folks don’t realize a Moose is often the most dangerous animal they will encounter….nearly blind and dumber than a box of rocks a Moose will stomp first and then ask questions…..I am wary of bears but they are reasonably predictable, a moose is a screwball animal that despite their size can be nearly invisible 5 yards off a trail….they will also total your F350 dually!

I don’t ever worry about Elk….if I am getting close to one it is to put an arrow in him/her, the cattle dog has also learned that the elk are not cattle to be herded…luckily without injury to any party…..Estes Park is a big herd that is used to people…they have lost their natural caution.

The park staff should just give the elk a hand job every once in a while to keep them a little more docile.

On the upside, can see woman rammed get up in second video, may be injured but me rule of thumb is you get up you will probably survive.

I am grateful it was deer I was dealing with on road there and not moose,of course with moose, would not have gotten out of vehicle and slapped in the ass, probably just backed up a good way and watched till it left the road.

Dipshits year-round dickin’ with the wildlife. Mountain lions getting strangled to death, bears raiding garbage cans, and elk charging. Not to mention the people that need to be rescued in the mountains.

There must be elk droppings everywhere in Estes Park. How do the locals deal with it besides wearing $hit kicker boots ?

Spain has the “Running of the Bulls”, Estes Park has the running of the elks: This from Christmas day 2017

Women have absolutely no survival instincts. If you look at the woman in red, she just stands there like she is watching a TV show. Ma’am, a gigantic, crazed wild animal is chasing a person within a few feet of you! At least make SOME effort to get out of the way! Women are incapable of sensing when they are in danger.
