I don’t know anything about planes, but it sounded like Boeing’s error was making it impossible for the pilot to fly the plane manually – that the computer was ultimately in charge. If all they’re doing is tweaking the programming a bit, that won’t be sufficient. They need a manual override.

The MAX wishes it could do that without flying apart.

For the best, most reliable, no bs explanation of the 737Max and MCAS by a real airline pilot you can’t beat the Blancolirio channel on YT. Juan Browne is the host and is an airline pilot, former Air Force C-130 and -141 pilot.
He’s been following and reporting on this (and many other subjects) since the beginning.

An editor at Aviation Week magazine in the 1980s had access to fighter jet voice recordings and was curious about what the most common last words pilots uttered just before they augered in. First place by a long shot was, “Oh shit.”

I wouldn’t put a fucking dead cat on that POS. That being said, I have over 9000 hrs on the 737-300 and 400 and it is the best flying, most forgiving commercial jet that I’ve flown. Flight control problems absolutely scare the living shit out of pilots. If you can’t control the jet nothing else matters. And this one dives into the ground uncontrollably if the stall warning system malfunctions. Everyone associated with the certification of this death trap belongs in federal prison, starting with the Boeing executives.

Pilot’s Prayer
Dear God, please let me die in my sleep like Grandad did.
Not screaming in horror like his passengers.

I’ve jumped out of worse flights than that.

Truth be told I would have loved to have been on board that plane and live to tell about it. That didn’t look like it was possible.

22 was busy reading a 100 year old copy of the Salt Lake Tribune while he was flying this sucker.
