Can someone explain to Oldtimer how to make this picture his Avatar? I’m technologically incompetent.

Mules, now that’s a fine sight.
Those were old “Lum Abner’s” team of mules, as my father would say and depending upon whether that inspired interest in his audience, he would tell the story. It involved borrowing that team and that wagon to get dynamite to clear some stumps. It’s a funny one.
We had a team when I was a kid, but they were really just for “show.”
My mom always kept a pair of mules under bed.

Getting the wife to do it might be optimal. FYI, there’s a program called GIMP. Name is acronym for Gnu Image Manipulation Program, so no worries. 🙂 I use it from a linux package. Should work on other OSes, per the site’s documentation. It will crop. Just use the rectangle selector from upper left corner, under the Image menu choose ‘crop to selection’, might as well select none (Select -> None), then export as a new non-Gimp image with File->Export As…. Gotta make sure the layer you want is active and the tool settings are right for things to go as expected. I was lost for about a week of trying and then it clicked for me. Just an FYI.
I’ve used GIMP… the layer thing can be tricky.

Thanks Vic, when I bought that little horse you couldn’t catch him inside a rain barrel. He had been abused in horse pulls with a hotshot (morons). I turned him loose in a forty acre field and let him remember what it was like to be a horse again, calmed him right down after about 3 months.
Good on you for rescuing that horse, I absolutely despise anyone who mistreats animals. Great avatar BTW as is the pic posted by mg.

Old Timer is now new age! But can he still be known as Old Timer having an Avatar? I’m hopelessly confused. I’m gonna go talk to George Dickel. He always understands.

I was going to “post” that story but I realized the story needed some illustrations and since I have a big collection of wonderful ancient photos it is just best I not go there.
Some memory lanes are closed for the holidays.
In case anyone missed this kind and benevolent post by Admin, I thought I’d take a moment and ask you if it doesn’t touch your heart that Jim Quinn, founding father figure for many wandering word warriors on the world wide web, took a few moments to help this kindly “old timer” get some assistance with setting up his little picture thingy.
That the quest was completed within one comment should touch the hearts of even the most technically challenged among you.
And, such devotion to the needs of his minions, both old, young, wise and otherwise, ought to be worth twenty bucks to a few of you with a couple minutes on your hands.
