QUOTE OF THE DAY

“In the last days the culture of society will become angry and hard, and a trial for those who love God. For people will be self-centered, lovers of themselves and obsessed with money. They will boast of great accomplishments, and strut around in their prideful arrogance, mocking all that is good and kind. They will neglect to love even their own families, and act ungrateful and lawless.

Many will become addicted to hateful and malicious thoughts and hateful words. Slaves to their desires, they will be ferocious, angry despisers of what is good and right. With brutal treachery, they will act without restraint, bigoted and blinded by clouds of conceit.

They will demand and find their delight in the pleasures of this world, and ignore their need to serve God. They may act religious, but they want to serve themselves.”

2 Timothy 3:1-5

That was my first stop. I started checking multiple bible versions and did not find the exact text from what Jim Quinn posted. Hence, why I asked.

brewer55: Am I understanding you correctly? Are you hinting the verse quoted is not in any published Bible?

I’m not saying that is the case but, it is possible. It is why whenever anyone quotes a bible verse, it is customary to cite the version of it. (i.e., KJV, NKJV, NIV, etc.).

I see what you mean. The gist of it is the same, but I didn’t see this exact quote in any version I checked. Is TBP just another news source not to be trusted?
Silly reader, tricks are for sheeple.
Hope I am wrong and admin can point us to the correct bible that has this quote. Otherwise, he misled us with the biblical reference.

From what I have read I have come to the realization that our Constitution and Bill of Rights suffer from the same human weakness’s as the Bible, “Human nature” and all the sins that accompany it.

There is only one Bible source, the textus receptus which culminated in the KJB, the rest are Westcott and Hort satanic perversions. Research those two men. Here is truth.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 KJB… “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

GCP, normally, I agree with just about everything you state in your posts. However, and I reserve the right to be wrong, saying all other versions are ‘satanic perversions’ are strong words. I have seen differences in various versions with a word here and a word there that was either not interpreted correctly from the Greek and/or Hebrew original scrolls and writings. And, there may very well be versions that are corrupt, to put it nicely. (After all, China is about to re-write the bible and koran to fit their communist agenda). But to label ALL other versions as satanic? I respectfully disagree.

I appreciate respectful disagreement.

You write… “ I have seen differences in various versions with a word here and a word there that was either not interpreted correctly from the Greek and/or Hebrew original scrolls and writings.”

You are, I am to assume, fluent in English, Greek and Hebrew? And have copies of the original scrolls and manuscripts?

Fluent in English, and I know a little Spanish; Greek & Hebrew — not so much.
I have heard this claim that the KJV bible is the only one that is valid for years. I’ve had bible classes where it was discussed. I did some research online and, have had discussions with my Pastor on it. I’ve come to the conclusion that it is just not a valid one. Certainly not to call all other versions demonic. I reference the ‘scrolls and manuscripts’ because others have done that deep dive analysis. Once again, I may be wrong.

brewer55, you are not wrong. With respect, regarding the King James Bible, GCP is mistaken.

GCP – The KJ version is just a translation of the manuscripts used for the translation. Which manuscripts did they use and who translated those manuscripts from the original manuscripts?

Only the original letters, written in the 1st century for the New Testament, would be unadulterated. All others were copied and translated into the language of the translator.

I was raised on KJV and read it for many years, but find some of the newer versions easier to digest. The message remains the same, even if the words differ.

No offense intended and I hope you have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

None taken. Gentlemen can respectfully disagree. I chose my words carefully. If you care to dig more deeply into the issue I’d offer up these hour long studies to get you going.

Why the King James Bible

Why the King James Bible – Part 2

The tip of the iceberg. What are the first recorded words out of satans mouth? To paraphrase… “did God really say that?” He wants you to have just a little doubt. That’s his “in” and it’s all he needs. If we do not have a completely and totally reliable inspired and preserved copy of Gods word, not corrupted by languages at all, literally nothing I say should be trusted whatsoever. That is the foundation upon which I stand. It is the sword upon which I will gladly meet my death.

Happy new year to one and all. May 2020 bring phenomenal new knowledge and revelation of Truth.

GCP, the last box you put up has a sentence, “…why unity in the body of Christ requires one Bible.” As an old school Pentecostal even I know better than that. There is no scripture to back that sentence up. It’s more like

Ephesians 4:4-6 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

4 [There is] one body and one Spirit—just as there is also one hope [that belongs] to the calling you received—
5 [There is] one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of [us] all, Who is above all [Sovereign over all], pervading all and [living] in [us] all.

To be 100% ‘pure’ regarding Bible translations, we would all have to learn Hebrew & all the forms of Greek & not read any translations. That won’t work for the vast majority of the followers of The Way. Especially worldwide.

If you just want to read only the KJ that’s perfectly fine. No worries. However it’s a big huge bad mistake to render all other translations as demonic. The KJ wasn’t even the 1st translation. Read #7 in the link I left in a reply to you above.

Thanks. And blessings.

A few of my problems with the King James. (It’s still a good version, just not perfect or the best and only one.)

How about “Thou shalt not kill!” A mistranslation. It should be “murder”, not kill. Lot’s of problems with that one over the years.

“Charity” in 1 Corinthians 13. Should be “love” & better yet as the Amplified puts it “God’s love in us.”

I’ll end GCP’s misery 😉 with my favorite:

KJ: Colossians 2:18
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

KJ promoting angel worship? 😉

Amplified Classic Edition:
18 Let no one defraud you by acting as an umpire and declaring you unworthy and disqualifying you for the prize, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions [he claims] he has seen, vainly puffed up by his sensuous notions and inflated by his unspiritual thoughts and fleshly conceit,

There are more, but I am not a KJ basher. I am just trying to make a point…

Brother grace, with respect, you are wrong sir about the textus recpetus & Hort & Westcott. Plus the KJ didn’t have the oldest texts to go by. Many of the oldest texts were not discovered yet. Also the kJ translators were not familiar with Koine Greek.

Don’t get me wrong, when I was saved in Nov. ’69 we used the King James. We were especially enamored with the Thompson Chain Reference, the ‘Tommy Gun’ as we called it. But since then I have read many translations & find few problems. If you’d like I can show you some of the isues I have with the Kj.

I am not knocking the King James, I ‘cut my teeth’ on it, but it is hardly the ‘best’ translation.

Regarding Hort & Westcott;

Criticisms of Recent Bible Translations

One of the criticisms leveled at some modern English translations is that the New Testament was translated from the Westcott and Hort Greek New Testament. However, more recent translations, such as the 2011 edition of the New International Version (NIV), are based on the 27th edition of the Nestle-Aland/United Bible Societies’ Greek New Testament. This is a critical text that takes into consideration all known Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, as well as New Testament quotations from early church fathers and from ancient lectionaries.[13] Any criticism of the Westcott and Hort text, or the men themselves—and much of the criticism has been misleading and outright slander—has no relevance whatsoever to the latest edition of the New International Version and other recent translations.”

The above quote from–

7 Things to Know About the King James Bible

The above set of verses may be somewhat paraphrased, but the above says is happening now. I don’t have a problem with the quote. Here is another translation.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

3 But understand this, that in the last days will come (set in) perilous times of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and hard to bear].

2 For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane.

3 [They will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good.

4 [They will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God.

5 For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them].

The above is copied & pasted unchanged from BibleGateWay.com

I have read a few other translations, but I like the Amplified Classic Edition the best. The translators of the ACE didn’t do the usual one translated word for one original language word. The Amplified Version scholars sometimes expanded fuller meaning into their work because some words couldn’t be truly translated by just one word. I like that originality.
