“This excerpt from Sagan’s book Pale Blue Dot was inspired by an image taken, at Sagan’s suggestion, by Voyager 1 on February 14, 1990. As the spacecraft left our planetary neighborhood for the fringes of the solar system, engineers turned it around for one last look at its home planet. Voyager 1 was about 6.4 billion kilometers (4 billion miles) away, and approximately 32 degrees above the ecliptic plane, when it captured this portrait of our world. Caught in the center of scattered light rays (a result of taking the picture so close to the Sun), Earth appears as a tiny point of light, a crescent only 0.12 pixel in size.”
It is just AMAZINGLY profound Earth is the only visible object in the distance, isn’t it?
I have come to realized the images of the world and universe beyond were described to my child in very different terms than I understood. What he views as fact, I see as Scientific WAGs.
I did like the book Contact, though I thought the movie took liberties with the character’s motivation that were not true to the book’s intricate plot.
There is no such thing as outer space . Nothing can get through the Firmament. No one has ever been to the moon. The moon is producing its own light inside the Firmament
There are over 200 verses in the Bible that describe the earth NASA is a total fraud.
BB, I know at least some of it is just spectacular artistic license with imagery projected from “somewhere” the telescopes were sent.
My point is not to try to persuade anyone to believe Carl Sagan’s Science is more informed than Elon Musk’s Science.
I am just trying to see the world through eyes which were TAUGHT to see the universe that way.
If you, BB, were completely able to ignore all the societal messages blaring at you about the Star Trek and the Star Wars, then I commend your mother for training you up in the way you should go. But, even though I grew up in the 60s, I grew up in a very different sort of 60s than most of you here conceive possible.
We didn’t exactly live on Walton’s Mountain, but we very much lived on Farmer Brown’s Farm.
Without any lights for miles and miles and miles, it was possible to stand in an open field and be completed surrounded by the universe.
I accepted Outer Space and God as pretty much the same thing.
If you know what you are looking at, as my grandfather did on that last trip to the farm in 1978, memorialized here by a snapshot masterpiece, you will see he is looking toward the low foothills of the Ozarks, a little strip known as the Crowley’s Ridge, which stretches into Arkansas.
Those hills are probably 15 to 20 miles away.
My grandfather and his two sons built that barn. My father build the one in the pasture (now beanfield) and beside, which is what we came to call “the museum shed” because it contained all Dad’s stuff.
Many, including BB I think, claim the angels guarding the four directions to the Tree of Life and the reference to the firmament above and below leans toward Flat Earth theory.
On the other hand, if God created Heavens and Earth, there’s SOMETHING out there.
I watched Musk on Joe Rogan and I was not that impressed. He’s no Sagan. I don’t think there’s any comparison. He’s not really an educator. He’s definitely not doing anyone any favors with his fake car company and his over-hyped reinvention of a tunnel. SpaceX… I dunno. I’ll be curious to see how far that goes, because his other business pursuits are kind of fake and all hype. I did think it was cool he got his rockets to go up and come back down to land tail-first, like an old 50s scifi movie.
Mathis is probably a limited hangout where good information is blended with propaganda and in the end, you can’t trust either.
It is why Quinn is smart to just let each of us post under our own “name.” I suspect it is also why he has not been harassed more. He really does let all of us “speak” even if we are idiots.
That is a fair and open debate, where Truth and Falsehood can really grapple.
Well, buddy, your goat shed has a few bales of hay in it now, but you still have a reservation. Since the Mennonites had time to finish the inside of the barn and add the extension, you could get upgraded to a little better spot.
Nick and I actually took a ride around the place on the quad yesterday with me narrating for Coonskin Chronicles. Do want a sneak peak? I will send you a private link to view. Am not frying my new computer setup like I fried my laptop last year with a Hollywood Robber Weaponized Virus that followed me home from a few public videos on Vimeo I’d forgotten about.
And I lost my ability to actually seem to live in Columbia, Maryland because that laptop was set up by my red rope friend’s husband, whom, at that time, set up secure teleconferencing for important people in the D.C. area.
I still have the “code” key to generate the 8 character passkey, but since her bots can’t see my bots anymore, I’m still flat stuck in Misery.
I’d love a sneak peak… keep me posted.. I’m at work but might go home, rest from the flu and that would be something to watch.
Speaking of chronicles there is a coyote that has been strategically located on side of road on my way to work. For past couple weeks it has been decomposing from indifference..

From the article below: To every anti-gunner, I have this to say – I will give up my right to keep and bear arms only after every gun is confiscated from every Secret Service Agent, every member of the military, every elected representative, every federal and state law enforcement official, every cop, every police officer, every peace officer, every security guard, every government agent and bureaucrat, and every criminal.

Since the Newtown, Connecticut shooting, the anti-gun mafia has been out in full force, inclusive of the lamestream media talking heads, governors, mayors, legislators – state and federal, special interest groups like Sarah Brady’s foaming-at-the-mouth anti-2nd Amendment bunch, and Hollywood weirdoes, to say nothing of the Marxist in the White House; the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns has sprung forth with a PSA – public service announcement – in which a plethora of Hollyweird types appear, calling on Washington to come up with a “gun control plan.” There’s a reason I don’t support the Hollyweird industry – actors may have money, they may have media presence, they may wine and dine with the elite; but, for the most part, they haven’t got the common sense God gave a goose.
All these people want to take away the right of Americans to keep and bear arms. To see just how lacking these people are—in common sense, the ability to think and reason with any degree of logic—take a look at this website where the editor, a rabid anti-gunner, is aiding and abetting the cause by helping criminals identify homes of law-abiding citizens where they might be able to steal a gun. (
People who don’t learn from history are bound to repeat it.
We have a Marxist in the White House who would like nothing better than to seize all guns, thereby leaving the American people defenseless against government tyranny. Stalin, Lenin, Hitler and Mussolini were all able to seize power because the people were defenseless to do anything about it.
What do Stalin, Lenin, Hitler and Mussolini have in common with the Marxist in the White House? They were all Marxists too, of one shade or another, whether fascist, national socialist (Nazi), or communist.
There are two things that all of these anti-gunners carefully avoid in the discussion of the right to keep and bear arms.
1) Laws are not made for criminals because criminals don’t obey laws anyway. This makes it very apparent that restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens won’t stop criminals from shooting up malls, churches, schools, theaters, etc.
2) If the intent is to kill, most anything can be used to accomplish the desired end, including water. In China, recently, a man with a knife stabbed 22 school children. (link to Hindustan Times appears broken)
That the anti-gun mafia continues to advocate the termination of the right to keep and bear arms, makes their agenda very clear – they want to disarm the American people and leave them defenseless against government tyranny.
People who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it.
And history tells us that the very first people purged by despots who have seized power, are those who helped them seize power. Stalin did it; Lenin did it; Mussolini did it; Hitler also did it.
Why were these the first people to be lined up and executed? Because people who are so easily led, who truly believe in the presumptive cause, are blind to the real agenda of the despot; and once they discover they have been used against their own self-interest, they become the worst enemy of the despot, for there is a very fine line between absolute love and absolute hate. When people figure out they have been used, absolute love turns to absolute hate and these people become very dangerous to the despot.
And those who helped Stalin, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler seize power were people just like those now wanting to take away the right of every American to keep and bear arms.
Are these people really so stupid that they truly believe that the way of the despot won’t happen this time, if they get their way?
Unfortunately, this class of people never seem to stop to think until it’s too late. Only when they realize the threat to their own self-interest do they realize they’ve been duped and used.
The anti-gunners couch their argument in terms of being enlightened, progressive, civilized; but they are anything but enlightened; progressive and communist are synonymous; as for being civilized, being ignorant isn’t being civilized. A civilized society is one that adheres to a moral code that reaches across the society, as a whole, binding the citizens together under a common standard.
As established, America held to such a moral code, and prospered. In America, today, no such moral code exists.
In America today, brought on by those who call themselves enlightened, progressive, civilized, there is no right and wrong, no moral standard, everything is continually in flux. Under such a society, the advocate can justify every decadent behavior as a “right” while disparaging a moral code as “old fashioned” and archaic. America has, for the past sixty years, taken on the persona of Sodom and Gomorrah. (my emphasis)
People who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it.
We can look at what happened to like societies of the past – the worst being the Roman Empire where every kind of decadent behavior was encouraged and practiced openly, until the society imploded due to moral decadence.
Will America be any different? No. We are watching, due to the moral decay of our society, increased violence, increased crime, increased sexual deviance, increased sexual decadence. No society has for long withstood moral decadence for with such moral decadence comes economic regression and the welfare state, exactly where America stands today.
Paul Harvey had it right when he said that things in America would only get better when the morals of the people got better.
To every anti-gunner, I have this to say – I will give up my right to keep and bear arms only after every gun is confiscated from every Secret Service Agent, every member of the military, every elected representative, every federal and state law enforcement official, every cop, every police officer, every peace officer, every security guard, every government agent and bureaucrat, and every criminal.
The right to keep and bear arms is not about anyone’s “hunting rifle”; the right to keep and bear arms is about the right of the people to defend themselves against anyone who would attempt the taking of their rights.
What stands between the Marxist in the White House and tyranny is the right of every American to keep and bear arms.
Two hundred and thirty-six years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, our Founding Fathers are still more intelligent and have more common sense than the anti-gun crowd. But then they knew, having suffered the tyranny of King George, that the right to keep and bear arms was imperative to the God-given right of every man, woman and child to be free of evil tyrants who walk among us.

Am tucking this documentary about the Saturn rocket that “took man to the moon” here for reference later. Tried to cue it at the image of a rocket in orbit over a globe… literally, a globe.
There is a LOT of interesting history in this documentary, whatever you believe about the space program.
I am considering the post-World War II era from a Fourth Turning point of view.
I’ve come to realize if the last Realignment aligns with World Wars I and II restructuring and redrawing the World map, then the twenty years right after that 4T chaotic period were spent behind the full speed ahead engine of technology, weren’t they? Think of all the resources literally poured into the “Going to the Moon” Industry, whether you think we got there or not.
So, what INDUSTRY will our children’s next twenty years/lives be devoted?
At this point, the documentary explains how the Military Industrial Complex was birthed in the bowels of NASA expenditure.

BB,
Is it possible for you to write an article about what the bible says about all this?
I spoke to my father today and he says the bible doesn’t take a position on whether the earth is flat or round.
Many, including BB I think, claim the angels guarding the four directions to the Tree of Life and the reference to the firmament above and below leans toward Flat Earth theory.

Cosmos’ opening was great, in my opinion.
It was, but there are other ways to look at Sagan, especially now that the Elon Musk phenom has taken off.
I watched Musk on Joe Rogan and I was not that impressed. He’s no Sagan. I don’t think there’s any comparison. He’s not really an educator. musk is a big fake stoner
It cracks me up to stumble upon your old comments here when I’m looking at my old essays, reviewing my “sources.”
Go read Miles Mathis’ take on Musk. His rise is that of an imposter. It would seem many of our Captains of Industry are government cut-outs …
Mathis is probably a limited hangout where good information is blended with propaganda and in the end, you can’t trust either.

Meh!
Sagan wuz a rube for NASA and the Deep State
I know he was, but what are YOU and Elon Musk?
I know it wasn’t you but I love this and knew you hadn’t seen it or you would have commented. The phantom shitter saw it, obviously.
I did see it Mags and yeah many days the discourse is like that.. both locally and globally.. and in case it matters I just upvoted it …
I wanna keep my room reserved…

Cued up around 17.
I believe they will devote themselves to enabling every technological advancement possible, up to and including their own extinction.
It is, of course, only personal if the eyes upon it understand it.
