CDC began shipping CDC-Developed test kits for the 2019 Coronavirus to US and international labs. Labs could not validate them because they contained a defective reagent. The FDA has not allowed outside labs to set up their own laboratory developed tests (LDTs) and no test kits are authorized for sale in the US.
