Inmates committing crimes after coronavirus release ‘unconscionable’: De Blasio

Via The NY Post

Mayor de Blasio released 200 inmates from NYC jails to stop the ...

It is “unconscionable” that Riker’s Island inmates who were released due to coronavirus concerns are committing new crimes, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.

“I think it’s unconscionable just on a human level that folks were shown mercy and this is what some of them have done,” the mayor said during his morning briefing Monday, which came on the heels of a Post report outlining the issue.

De Blasio said the number of re-offenders remains relatively small and said the city was “buckling down” on monitoring and supervising released prisoners.

“We do see some recidivism. I have not seen a huge amount but any amount is obviously troubling,” he said.

“We’re going to just keep buckling down on it, making sure there’s close monitoring and supervision to the maximum step possible. And the NYPD is going to keep doing what they’re doing.”

More than 1,400 city inmates have been granted early releases due to concerns of the spread of coronavirus inside jailhouses, Hizzoner said.

The Post reported Sunday that at least 50 of the newly released Riker’s Island prisoners were rearrested for new crimes in recent weeks — and in some cases were cut loose again.

The Legal Aid Society, Bronx Defenders and other legal defense groups have been petitioning courts since the outbreak of the deadly global pandemic, arguing that inmates, particularly those who are older or have medical conditions, are more vulnerable to the deadly bug within the confines of city jails.

The releases have helped drop the inmate population at Riker’s Island under 4,000 for the first time since the World War II era, city officials said.

City officials said last week that more than 300 inmates and 500 correction department employees have tested positive for COVID-19, with at least two inmates killed by the virus.

If there’s ever a dictionary definition for ‘asshat’ it should just feature De Blasio’s picture.

This guy is a fuck up of monumental proportions. The only larger fuck up is do the voters that re-elected this asshole.

Xactly according to plan.

Crime = Murders

Words matter.

Emptying the jails is mostly a problem for Blue state shitholes. . . for now.

Either way, the Communist infiltrator squats in the bush with his cold rice and roasted cat meat.

I don’t know if releasing dangerous criminals is really going to change the Noo Yawka perspective on their mayor but I can gwar-ann-tee this world class dooshbag is going to be in super deep shit for cancelling the June N.Y.C. Pride Parade.

Noo Yawkas voted for him; they love him; let them choke on him.

Fifty former prisoners committed crimes after their release? Or should it be fifty percent of them did? It’s been shown that crime pays for those at the top. But the bottom understands that crime pays too, though they might actually end up in jail…maybe.
The numbers they look at are close to these. When committing a crime there is a 10% chance of getting caught. If caught, there is a 10% chance of being convicted. And if convicted, there is only a 10% chance of doing any jail time. Add to that now affordable bail, which usually means that they immediately let you go if caught. Or if you actually have been convicted and given jail time after the 25 previous offenses, your jail time will be automatically reduced by half for good behavior, and that you will also be given credit for time already served. So you’re free on your court date. Yep, you just went on a paid vacation where the food and medical are free, while you dried out and pumped yourself up to get back to your career choice as soon as possible. Yeah, that’s pretty much like it is at the top too.

Only a conspiracy theorist would imagine that turning thousands of criminals out of the streets , in the middle of a national lockdown, without a job, food or a maybe even a place to stay would result in the criminal returning to crime or possible contribute to the possibility of civil war II … smh

I was in county jail March 13th to 25th and people laughed when I said they would probably start releasing people in a week or two.

Hell, murders by furloughed inmates happened 2-3 weeks later!

I imagine his mom used to say things like “Bill, if you put your finger in that electrical socket, we might be able to sue the landlord, and get to live rent free for the next 2 months”

something tells me he did not grow up with a father, or, that perhaps his father had a very weak hand. Bad decision making like this is not something your fall into as an adult, it is part of upbringing.

I don’t understand.

They made a decision that there would be no consequences for committing a crime and criminals were the first to be notified and now they are surprised that they are continuing the behavior?

Is that what this is about?

The only way to make it right is to hold the person who let them out take full responsibility and serve the jail time along with the criminal for the crimes he committed.

Captain Oblivious De Blasio, just doesn’t get it. Hey Bill, a majority of these individuals were locked up because they don’t get what it means to be human and thereby have a conscious. Therefore, Bill, their acts going forward are not unconscionable, they are to be expected. That’s why these shit bags were locked up. The elite are so out of touch with F’ng reality that it is scary.

I’d ask if there would be a comeuppance for the brain dead politicians who made the decision to release prisoners, but I know the answer.
