Yep…those were the days. Ronald Reagan was president and if you told me we’d be facing a communist Revolution in 2020 I’d have told you that you were F’ng crazy.

Yeah, you would have…
. . . and you all fkn did.

I called it when in HS (78-81, graduated in 3 yrs not 4).

You all made horrible fun of me and said “If you don’t like it here in God’s country why don’t leave?” when I said “If you think that the US is not going to become a lot more like the USSR during then generation or two you are naive.”

Oh, how I wished that I was wrong, but…
. . . here we are.

And, eventually I did leave. It’s not much better where I am now, but it is a place I will call home for the rest of my days, unless I need to move to Eastern Europe where they still have a modicum of sanity happening.

Thank you sir. I am safe and sound, not quite thriving. Getting involved with things that could make difference, and believe I made the right the decision. One of my UK friends would always ask why I don’t live in the UK and a couple of times I stated maybe I will after the civil war. That was is 2014, haha.

Had not the even t I detail below gone as it did, my decision would have been to join it. Admittedly, I do wonder, just occasionally if I have made the right decision – morally speaking. Tough call. But, the way I see it, if things go really badly and the leftyleft win, I have a place family can escape to if needs be.

(Though the coronahoax may well make all of this moot according to sources I have for my little newsletter I issues by email 4-5 times a week.)

Thanks again CD, kind comments are always appreciated.

Student, I see you and I are the same age and have had the same outlook since high school. Only I stayed here to watch the shit-show ringside. Nobody lives forever anyway.

Maybe that’s why it took me all 4 years to give enough of a f*** to get the sheepskin.

Well, I was “gifted” as they called it. And I had arrived some years before from my homeland – a move very much against my will from a country in northwestern Europe – no, not Sweden, thank God.

I stayed for decades and “watched the shit” did well in life, enjoyed the easy, relatively lazy American way. But in the late 90s it just wasn’t what it was anymore. And, after 14 years in a good marriage, the ex decided to go full-on radical feminist and we divorced, I was invited to live with my bro in the UK in the 00’s. Left the ex EVERYTHING, started over and did well, but as things went nuttier and nuttier there, seeing what was on the horizon, I had fork in the road: When it hits the fan which country would I bleed for?

A very serious decision. One not easy to make, but ultimately false imprisonment, torture-iight at the airport jail, no lawyer willing to take the case, no apology offered, just astonishment I was let out (“a first here ever” the cop who released me said), no restitution for costs incurred, I decided I would NEVER bleed to defend such a land. I was fkn threatened with Gitmo over check from my personal account the ex in the US had stolen, was on video tape using my passport to pass, and one which I had decided wasn’t worth having hanging over my head – due to corrupt prosecutors – and had made good on the year before!

Maybe that is who pissed in kornflakes this morning, LOL

And now you know a fair amount of the rest of the story – and it has zero to do with spending 3 or four years in H.S. That is another story for another day.

🙂

Yep, and now I can’t bear to consume such a food product due to its high carb and fat count. But man, when we were kids, Pizza Hut pan pizza was some serious gourmet sh*t!

It’s the carbs that are the problem, fats and protein as long as they’re natural and not synthetic are good for you. Think paleo and keto.

Friday night football games as a senior. Afterwards we always ended up afterwards at the Pizza Hut on Colfax in Lakewood. Endless salad bar and a large pizza and bloviate about the hits and plays we had just made. Good F’ng memories. Yep, we were F’ng kings then.

Man, you are from Colorado. My grandma had a place down from Colfax on Simms, I think about Hawthorne or so. We used to climb the two giant cottonwoods in the front yard and watch the muscle cars roll by. Burger King, and the RexAll, and the strip mall with Target all on west Colfax. Waaay back in the day.

I’ve NEVER had Pizza Hut. I grew up in NYC, about 3 blocks from John Gotti’s “Bergen Hunt and Fish Club” hangout. There was a pizzeria on just about every block, and no two places tasted the same. Everyone had their favorites, but only the good ones survived. One of my favorites from the early 60’s is still there and they same guy runs it. It’s now several states away, but I’m overdue to go back for a slice. They don’t know how to make pizza in New England. You are right though, we were kings too.

Pizza Hut wasn’t the best Pizza but was the best place to hangout. Pietra’s on 44th Ave, in Wheat Ridge was the best Pizza and still is. That place has been there for over 50 years.

Pizza Hut was THE thing in the 70’s. I remember a guy streaking the one next town over and an old lady grabbed him by the Johnson yelling “I’ve got him! Call the police!” upon which the kid cold-cocked her and fled. Turned out he worked there and the kitchen guys were in on it.
Vikings linebacker Scott Studwell hung out a couple of weekends a month because his good buddy who was a local and now lives across the street from me played with him at U of I. He got arrested for peeing in a wastebasket at the Hut because the mens room was occupado. I once saw him eat an unpeeled orange.
Pizza Hut was about the last place you could get Fanta Root Beer too.
Both of the Huts we hung out in back then are used car lots today.

Espositos in Morton Grove, Illinois? How about Lou Malnatis in Wilmette or Ginos East in Skokie on Dempster? Nancy’s Stuffed Pizza is fabulous except they used to get firebombed about once a month. How about Irving’s For Red Hot Lovers? Carson’s Ribs? One could go on.

Agreed. If you lived anywhere near Chicago there were phenomenal pizzerias everywhere. Pizza hut was for people that lived in the middle of nowhere or didn’t know what real pizza was. Lou Malnotis pan pizza is the best. I believe they have about 40 locations now. There’s a lot of history about the Lou Malnati recipe and the battle with Pizzaria Uno and Due on who actually created it first.

“How about Lou Malnatis ….”

Hands down one of the best pizza joints in America. And guess what? They ship frozen pizzas to ya!! It’s a bit on the expensive side, but worth it.

They have many locations in IL and are also located in AZ, WI, and IN. I went to the one in Schaumburg on Barrington Road regularly …. because of their lemon ice.

Growing up in Newark we had an Italian Ice vendor go past our apartment every day in the summer. Little old Italian guy pushing his ice-cart. I’d get a large cup … 15 cents! Best ever!! You’d think all Italian ices are the same; water, sugar, and lemon. But, you’d be wrong. The stuff you get in a supermarket is crap in comparison. But, Lou Malnati ices come real real close.

Wow! Espositos and Ginos – awesome. Also loved Pizzaria Uno and Due within city limits. My first taste of Chicagoland pizza in 77. As a teenager, I couldn’t get enough. PIzza Hut was good, but Uno the absolute best.

goddamn, yes i do remember that.. havent been in a pizza hut since reagan was president, shit im getting old.. not like youd find me anywhere near such a place anymore, the corporate chemical soup fake food is toxic, toxic, toxic.. but back then they might have actually even had real cheese on the friggin pizzas! the neighborhood place a block and a half away next to the 7-11 was a lot better though, honestly, and if we were at pizza hut once in a year we got pizza from that local guy at least once in a month.. in so many ways the 80s were the last echo of prosperity in our civilization. echo i say because it was already hollowed out and the structure was leaning over dangerously..

I can even remember when pan pizza hadn’t been introduced. Anybody else remember the priazzo? Best thing the Hut ever did imho. Broke my heart almost as much as in 2020 when Taco Hell dropped the 7 layer burrito because corona. That was the only thing I would occasionally indulge in from their MSDS, I mean menu, anymore…

We had a local place called Grammas Pizza. Big thick square Sicilian style pizza. I would egg the pizza guys on by telling them I could eat their pizza by myself and they would pile on the toppings. they knew what I was doing but played along. it was really funny and delicious.

Okay, the last time I had a memorial event at a pizza joint, hold on it is coming was a, YOU GUESS IT!, Stuckeys!
Yes, Damn I am that old! Stuckeys use to offer a variety of meals some of them were pizzas. To a young mind traveling it was gold in a nirvana in heaven. Alas, things like that are no longer available. We are poorer for it.

i worked at p hut in college & was there when they rolled out pan pizza–it was good pizza–
the dough had to be prepped a certain way & was a pain in the ass so the mgrs tried not to make too many proofed pans(the dough was put into the pans & then refrigerated) b/c it was expensive & also took up lots of space in the fridge–however, the profit margin was so great on the pans that they could throw away 19 shells, including labor, and selling the 20th made it break even–woe to the mgr who got caught running out of pan dough–
the hut is terrible these days–

you guys in chicago forgot to mention uno pizza–they expanded into fla but pulled out after a few years–great pizza–
