SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

And now for something completely different.

This one comes to us via Muscledawg who pointed us in the right direction.

These Are For The Kids

O Mio Babbino Caro

This should knock your socks off. If you’ve never seen nor heard of her, this is Amira Willighagen. She is of Dutch/South African heritage.

She is currently 16 years old, but has been singing for some time. She has many many videos on you Tube.

I suppose the best way to introduce her is to let her introduce herself as she does on “Holland’s Got Talent” when she was nine years old. Sit back, listen and enjoy Amira singing “O Mio Babbino Caro” a soprano aria written by Giacomo Puccini.

Sarah Brightman has nothing on this young lady, and Amira also does Maria Callas as well as Maria Callas does Maria Callas. She may indeed be Maria Callas re-incarnated.

Time to Say Goodbye

Here she is singing “Time to Say Goodbye” with Ben Heijnen in 2016 at the ripe old age of 12.

Nella Fantasia

Finally, this is Amira (again at age 12) performing live in concert in South Africa.

What an incredible talent!

Play it for the kiddos…

Saxophones express a mysterious sound of Bach for pure enjoyment:

Dear Bach… A video by Jon Hiseman, filmed on the last day of recording the new Apollo Saxophone Orchestra album ‘Perpetual Motion’ – 10 compositions for saxophone orchestra by Barbara Thompson.

Shot in the concert hall of the Royal Northern College of Music, the acoustics of this marvellous hall greatly enhanced the orchestral sound of the 12 saxophones, under the musical direction of Rob Buckland and Andy Scott

Sweet Georgia Brown

Jazz in Marciac

August 1, 2010

The Wynton Marsalis Quintet performing a swinging interpretation of Sweet Georgia Brown, featuring:

Mark O’Connor (violin)

Frank Vignola (guitar).

Wynton Marsalis (trumpet)

Dan Nimmer (piano)

Walter Blanding (sax)

Carlos Henriquez (bass)

Ali Jackson (drums)

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.

Amazing range of voice on Amira’s performance of Nella Fantasia.

Especially for one so young, who just happened to find her natural-niche-talent gift from God.

One of you guys did some digging and research to find that gem, after seeing / hearing the Holland’s Got Talent clip.
Gracias.

Opera music highs can be challenging to listen to. Most will not be able to, as the HGT judge’s concern reflected.

But for those who can find and appreciate the scale of notes in a beautiful melody by a talented composer, musician, and singer, it can be breathtaking.

This scene in Amadeus captures some of that, and more, when F. Murray Abraham, playing Salieri,
is dumbfounded by Mozart’s compositional creative talent on loan from our Creator.
(hear the Christe Eleison at about the 1:55 mark in this clip)
