SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Caledonia

I’m gonna try something a bit different this week (yeah, what else is new?).

I have family that came here from Rosshire, Scotland. They descended from the clan MacRae. So yeah, a got a wee bit of Scots-Irish in me blood. I want to present some music from those parts this Sunday.

This musical group goes by the name “Celtic Thunder.” It is an Irish singing group and stage show conceived by producer Sharon Browne in 2007.

They are known for their eclectic theatrical style. They travel globally, and are accompanied by a full orchestra and a band.

All the lads are Irish with the exception of George Donaldson who hailed from Scotland. As an aside, George is the tall, bald older guy in the group. He was picked by Sharon Browne to be the “steadfast” in the group for the younger, less experienced members.

Sadly, George passed away back in 2014 from a heart attack he suffered at his home. He was a mere 46 years old, and left a wife and daughter behind. They always sat in the front row of all of his performances.

George truly was one of those people who was dearly loved by all.

With that in mind, I want to start this set with a song titled “Caledonia” – which is the Latin word for Scotland.

Swells the old bosom, it does.

My Land

The next piece is titled “My Land.” Notice the beautiful Celtic Cross stage and backdrop.

God bless them.

A Place in the Choir

Third, I present “A Place in the Choir.” A peek at the audience reveals that Celtic Thunder is a group for all ages, and they sell out all over the world.

Home From the Sea

Lastly, I have chosen their piece titled “Home From the Sea”.

An old Irish song sung beautifully by Celtic Thunder.

Now We are Free

Oh heck. I’m gonna throw a bonus track in here. The song is titled “Now We are Free.” It is sung by Keith Harkin.

I am uncertain of the language so if someone notices, do tell please.

These Are For The Kids

How to attract a crowd in 4 minutes – Piano Dance mix. (Watch till the end!)

Watch as shoppers stop to watch my favourite piano dance mix.

Whilst shopping in Liverpool One Shopping centre I noticed a public piano that was empty so decided to play a mix of Dance Classics from the 1990s. Within minutes a crowd gathered and I was delighted with the applauds I received at the end of my performance.

Kid Plays The Best Jingle Bells EVER!

9 years old Olivier plays the best version of Jingle Bells EVER!

Play Them For The Kiddos

The Beautiful Blue Danube

Dancing with a pretty girl is fun, but a waltz… a waltz is pure romance.

Nothing shows that better than this song…

Now we are free (known from the movie Gladiator)
Lisa Gerrard (the woman who performs it) is known for doing melismatic singing. What this basically means is that, often, the pieces she performs have no real language but instead are syllables which she forms as she sings. Since she’s a professional singer, she’s aware of how to do this, as well as repeat certain parts of the “lyrics” in order to give it the feeling of a typical song. So, there’s no way to give a translation. The closest language that song comes to is Breton or Gaelic.

d-venabili, thanks so much for clearing that up. I recently posted the same song by Gregorian a couple of weeks ago and was curious. I assumed it was an old form of Gaelic or so. Thanks much.

Aye, so glad you enjoyed that. Indeed, their armonies are beautiful. Fun songs to sing also. Thanks, anonymous.
