SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow & Beyond The Sea

I wanted to follow up Celtic Thunder with Celtic Woman. I felt that they would make a good follow up to Celtic Thunder, as well as to give the ladies equal billing.

Celtic Woman is an all female Irish musical ensemble conceived by David Kavanagh, Sharon Browne (where have I heard that name?) and David Downes.

Created in 2004 to perform a one-time event in Dublin, the group’s popularity soared. To date they have produced 11 albums, undertaken a number of World Tours, and have sold over nine million records.

Both beautiful and talented, they are a Celtic favorite.

The first piece I have chosen is an old favorite titled “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.

My Heart Will Go On

I’m going to follow that up with “My Heart Will Go On”

A Woman’s Heart

Next, they perform “A Woman’s Heart”

The Parting Glass

Next, I have chosen an old favorite titled “The Parting Glass”.

I’m not sure if there is a more beautiful creature on Earth than Lisa Kelly…

Danny Boy

Then there is this…

The Sounds Of Silence

Sometimes during lockdown, the sound of silence offers some lessons:

The Sounds Of Silence (Live) by Simon & Garfunkel

P.Tchaikovsky – Italian Capriccio

Moscow City Symphony “Russian Philharmonic”

Conductor — Michail Jurowski

P. Tchaikovsky. Italian Capriccio

The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.

Heaven help us…

Good stuff as usual. The Celtic Women for St. Pat’s day and Simon and Garfunkel were both great along with some superb Tchaikovsky. Though I love the original this modern version fits today’s aura better IMHO

And here’s my contribution for St. Patrick’s Day

I have seen Celtic Women on TV; I have seen them in person. I have seen an in person performance of one of their 3 or 4 travelling groups. Being of Irish descent, I am not a fan of the Celtic Women. They are not really a traditional Irish music group. They are a Pop Music merchandiser. Oh, it is true that The Parting Glass is traditional, but Danny Boy is really a 19th century composition.

Real folk music is the heart and soul of a people. Listen to Turlough O’Carolan, the blind Harper; or hear John McCormack sing the original lyrics to Wearing of the Green.

Sionnach, being of Scots-Irish descent myself, I realize that they sing a lot that is not really traditional Irish music, and you are correct when you say they are a pop music merchandiser. I posted them, as I said to follow up Celtic Thunder from 2 weeks ago to give the ladies equal billing. Here is something more traditional:

In case you ever wondered what a Celtic version of the Devil went down to Georgia would sound like, wonder no more.

THANKS MUCH MUCH for all this fabulous effort to provide these selections!!
“Sunday morning coming down” with this effort is the highlight of the week.

A must to bump up the check to Admin with a bit of the government helicopter Stimmy cash drop!!

Further to the Doctor’s submission of the Disturbed piece, I submit this other version with his fantastic
vocal effort, and the dark images in the video.

It’s nice to see you back, Ursel. You are one of our first and best listeners of SMC. Was wondering where you were. Welcome home. Oh, the guy does have an excellent voice. Thanks.
