Actually all of these would be better (yes, a relative term) if they actually had sugar versus HFCS in them. I know of a restaurant that specifically sells only Mexican sodas including Coke because they contain no HFCS and because they have become so popular.
Actually, New Coke was one of the great corporate okey-doke triumphs of all time. Phase-out Coke, substitute with foul-tasting new Coke, but the public start howling, let the public win, bring back the old Coke, only this time with much cheaper high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar. Enough time had passed that the general public didn’t even notice the change in taste. Suckers.

I am not sure this is correct, but I am going to go out on a limb here and say the high sugar prices are likely related to ethanol. That is just a wild ass guess, though.
Edit: nope, I was wrong. It seems it has to do with import restrictions and tariffs allowing a handful of big producers to pillage the market.

Before you drink another one of those containers of poison, eat a doritos or open a package of the items displayed at the check-out counter may I suggest you read Michael Moss’ book ‘Salt, Sugar, Fat – How The Food Giants Hooked Us’. This stuff has been engineered to the Nth degree for addiction, and it is poison. The reason ‘you can’t eat just one’ is because of the addiction engineering.
I quit drinking coke products years ago as the taste degenerated into something much akin to dishwater it was so thin and tasteless………

I was looking at the soda aisle and noticed that some of the boxes of Pepsi had “real sugar” on the label. It made me look at all the other types of Pepsi and ask “what the hell is in the rest of them?”

Tampa it is called Senomyx and it is in many products. The list changes because of producers responses to boycotts and so forth, but it is surprising where you will find it.
“Real sugar” is called table sugar or sucrose.
Sucrose is a natural polysaccharide composed of a glucose + fructose bond. High fructose corn syrup is a processed sweetener high in fructose perceived to be sweeter than table sugar. Many don’t know or can’t tell the difference. HFCS is cheaper because it is derived from plentiful corn and not imported sugar cane.
Like the label “organic” it is all a misleading, rigged marketing game based on making a profit from uninformed consumers.

It is really mindboggling. I was trying to track down the Nestle-Purina case before the US Supreme Court (Arguments being heard now!) about their using child slaves in South Africa and discovered a whole culture of child slavery exists there. Except the slavers are also known as parents.
I discovered it is culturally okay to sell your own kids into slavery there.
South Africa is a very progressive place.

Did you know Fanta is Nazi cola? Coca Cola of Germany couldn’t get the cola syrup to make it, and the guy who ran it and his chemists came up with Fanta, which was made from apple and sugar beet peelings. Right after Germany surrendered, Coca Cola sent their representative to meet with a director they hadn’t talked to in four years. They were amazed at how much money they had made during the war.

Whatever regular soft drinks used to be, it all went away after they took the real sugar out and stuck corn syrup in place of it. I haven’t cared for it since then.
On the other hand, I’m old enough to remember cyclamates, and it was far better than regular saccharine and all of the other ones since then. Many diet drinks made with that stuff didn’t taste that bad. I figure someone big wanted it done away with because they couldn’t control all of the money made from it. It’s legal to sell in most countries.
Coca Cola is in a situation not unlike that of NASCAR. Both are from the South, and have managed to piss off their fans. NASCAR viewership is supposedly off 50% since their little garage-pull pissy fit, and off a total of 75% since 2009. I suppose we shall soon see how bad Coca Cola cut their own throat, and it will be…….sweet, indeed.
