SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Wagner: Preludes & Overtures

Solti Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1976 & 1979 Movie Live)

As we are suffering totalitarian oppression these days I thought that at first a Wagner theme would work as we proceed unsteadily towards some kind of new normal.

Wagner:

The German composer and theorist Richard Wagner extended the opera tradition and revolutionized Western music.

His dramatic compositions are particularly known for the use of leitmotifs, brief musical motifs for a character, place, or event, which he skilfully transformed throughout a piece.

Among his major works are the operas The Flying Dutchman, Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Tristan and Isolde, Parsifal, and the tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung, which includes The Valkyrie.

One of the most controversial figures in classical music, his work transcends his character, which was defined by megalomaniac tendencies and anti-Semitic views.

Until his final years, Wagner’s life was characterised by political exile, turbulent love affairs, poverty and repeated flight from his creditors. His controversial writings on music, drama and politics have attracted extensive comment, notably, since the late 20th century, where they express antisemitic sentiments.

The effect of his ideas can be traced in many of the arts throughout the 20th century; his influence spread beyond composition into conducting, philosophy, literature, the visual arts and theatre.

1. Wagner: Der fliegende Holländer – Overture – [0:33]
2. Wagner: Tannhäuser – Overture – [12:28]
3. Wagner: Tristan und Isolde – Prelude and Liebestod – [28:01]
4. Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg – Prelude Act.1 – [47:26]

Conductor – Georg Solti

These two come to us thanks to SMC.

Lola Astanova – Passacaglia

2-1/2 minutes of pure beauty that some may enjoy.

Lola – Bach G Minor

If you want something from her that is another beautiful piece, definitely sticking with the classical theme, the one below of Bach is very good, as well.

It may be even better than the Passacaglia tune.

I’ll leave it to you to choose which one you log for 4/25/21.

Thanks again, for all your efforts, my friend. Ditto, Nkit and Peter.

Ballade pour Adeline

Today, I would like to play some beautiful piano music by Richard Clayderman.

Born in Paris in 1953, Clayderman learned the piano from his father, an accordian teacher. At the ripe old age of twelve he was accepted into the Conservatoire de Paris where he earned great acclaim.

“Clayderman has recorded over 1,300 melodies and has created a new romantic style through a repertoire which combines his trademark originals with classics and pop standards. As of 2006, his record sales number at approximately 150 million, and has 267 gold and 70 platinum albums to his credit. He is popular in Asia and is noted by the Guinness Book of World Records as being “the most successful pianist in the world.”

I’ll start with his signature hit titled “Ballade pour Adeline.”

This beautiful melody is the stuff of which ear worms are made.

Romeo and Juliet – Love Theme

I’ll follow that up with his version of the Love Theme From Romeo and Juliet.

Corizon de Nino

Next up is the beautiful “Corizon de Nino (Heart of a Child) from his concert in Egypt in 2016.

Fantastic and incredible piano playing.

The Titanic Symphony

From the same concert in Egypt he plays “The Titanic Symphony.”

Los Sonidos de Silencio

Next he plays “Los Sonidos de Silencio” with a bit of “Fur Elise.”

La Mer (Beyond The Sea)

Lastly, Clayderman plays “La Mer (Beyond The Sea).”

Beautiful music and a beautiful video hand-picked for those of you still dealing with the joys of Winter.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Khatia Buniatishvili – Grieg – Piano Concerto in A minor – Sokhiev

Edvard Grieg

Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 16

Khatia Buniatishvili, piano

Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse

You did not include anything from the first of the Ring operas, das Reingold, which I think is the best of the series. When you have some time and a free mind listen to the opening of Reingold and the E flat which he molds into the leitmotief of the Rhine. Stunning.

Lola!!! Superbly talented for sure!! CLOSE your eyes and feel enraptured. She certainly lets it all hang out … meaning ….

…. why does she have to dress like a slut?

Shout me down, call me bad names, tell me to fuck off … whatever.

But, I will tell you for certain, if I showed this to my 90 year old mom … that is the very FIRST thing she would say. And I would bet my middle testicle that 95% of folk from her generation would say likewise. There once was a “standard” called modesty. Is that too old-fashioned now? Is it even a thing to be considered?

Does sex sell? There is your answer. There are plenty of talented musicians on youtube and plenty of people that like said music. But are there enough of them visiting her channel to pay the bills? Youtube pays it’s money out for views how many people who give no fucks about her music show up for the tits?
The sad thing is she would be even hotter in a sleek black concert gown, but that doesn’t show on a thumbnail the way those knockers do.
There is also the possibility that she completely loves the attention given to said awesome rockin body but doesn’t want to be a stripper. Or here is the super altruistic one: “I came here for the tits but stayed for the music”

Great music – but what it is about tits? I confess that it is all I see sometimes when they are big and protruding – but then I am an old man and live in my dreams of memories. Ah, THEY were the days – drugs, sex and Rock ‘n Roll. Now we have soothing music to accompany our slow Sundays – well done to all and especially Steve C for all his efforts to deliver this serenity.

SMC – I saw this (Lola -Passacaglia) in the comments a couple of weeks ago and was totally mesmerized by the playing and the pianist. Usually, I will start a piece and then go on to read articles on the interwebs, but with Lola, I cannot make myself look at anything else until she is done.

Thanks a lot.

“but with Lola, I cannot make myself look at anything else until she is done.”

“but with Lola, I cannot make myself take my hand out of my pants and look at anything else until she is done. And 5 minutes later I am done.
