I’ve wondered about that since the Valdez spill in Alaska.

Wouldn’t burning the oil off create less environmental impact than allowing it to make landfall.

Not nearly as much fun to cover for months, not to mention Dawn dish soap sales, but greasy ducklings vs black smoke?

I don’t think it burns easily. Depending on the grade, crude oil is more like the sludge in the bottom of your oil pan than heating oil or kerosene. I would guess that to be natural gas not crude oil.

Lack of smoke would say NG, I guess.

But those wells in Kuwait seemed to flair OK.

Combined with the gas that accompanies crude in wells, maybe.

TBP science guys say…?

Business Insider says oil pipeline.

Now we know the rest of the story.

Says Paul.

Risky as it would create a lot of dioxins and similar compounds burning at such a low temp. I am guessing its mainly gas bubbling up fortunately

Hecho in Mexico. Pemex. Almost as good as this….people grabbing gas from a fuel pipeline which they ruptured so they could get free gas…I think over ninety people died in that horror.

Gay, I want to see hilarious shit like the spic torches from back when a gas line, as in gasoline, ruptured and they all decided to fill their milk jugs and plastic bags with it.

Fwoom.

Probably Chi Com Pipe , fittings , seals etc … As for bulk oil carriers the double inner bottom law was passed for all ships built in the US to transport oil creating a second protective hull to prevent a spill should there be a hull breach .
Good law to prevent environment . The industry asked that all ships built after a certain date had to have this to operate in US waters congress said only ships built in the US . Doubled below waterline cost in American Shipbuilding so all contracts went overseas closing shipyards across the nation . Who married the daughter of a Chi Com shipping billionaire Republican Mitch McConnell ! Isn’t that special !

The 2010 B.P. Deepwater Horizon oil spill is not forgotten. Neither is that poison used to help “clean up” the crude; Corexit. The evil tools have such a drole sense of humour.

Just try to remember what Gulf shrimp used to taste like.
