Since I’ve also gotten to know a few veterans, I’ve learned that WWII and Korean war veterans tend to be pretty regular guys, even if wounded or disabled due to their military service.
Vietnam Vets I meet almost all have some sort of Post Traumatic Stress for which they use some sort of drug. There was a normalization of taking drugs in the 1960s and I suspect there was common prescription for drugs for soldiers who had anxiety and stress. Since I know airmen were given Ambien to help with jet lag during Desert Storm even after its psychotropic effects on many were documented (still is prescribed!!!) I have no doubt they were prescribed Amphetamines or worse in Vietnam to keep them going.
These streets mirror Huxley’s Brave New World. That was once safely ensconced in a novel 4 or 5 centuries from now. The amount of misery on display in the video boggles the mind. Then again I lead a sheltered life, well at least for now.

Wow. The neighborhood had an informal firework day yesterday, but tonight my wife and I went out and we could look in 360 degrees air bursts going for an hour and we got tired. It was freaking awesome! My family has done some large and long displays, but having it all around you is pretty cool. Like being a kid again. This is our first 4th here in this town of <4000. We love it here in our 96% white town.

America’s fault lines over flag-waving predate the political rise of Trump. Anti-war activists made flag-burning a common occurrence at protests against the Vietnam War. Ironically, the war escalated under the presidency of Democrat Lyndon Johnson and full Democrat control of both chambers of Congress. Kneeling protests during the playing of the national anthem at sporting events – a tactic decried by Republicans and defended by Democrats – began in 2016.
Trump capitalized on the symbolism, declaring that flag burners should lose their citizenship or be jailed, and that NFL players who kneel during the national anthem should be suspended without pay.
The Times cited a YouGov poll that shows politically diverging views on the American flag. The survey, which was released in March, showed that 95% of Republicans are proud of the flag, compared with 64% of Democrats.
With its imagery of flags on pickup trucks and a church sign referring to America being created “under God,” the Times’ article appeared to stoke the political divisions. Some observers suggested that the story may reveal more about the newspaper than the flag-wavers it depicts.
“Today, singling out people for flying the American flag from the back of a pickup truck or over a lawn is increasingly seen as a clue, albeit an imperfect one, to a newspaper’s political affiliation in a deeply divided nation,” one commenter said, recasting the Times’ verbiage to make his point.

Wow. The neighborhood had an informal firework day yesterday, but tonight my wife and I went out and we could look in 360 degrees air bursts going for an hour and we got tired. It was freaking awesome! My family has done some large and long displays, but having it all around you is pretty cool. Like being a kid again. This is our first 4th here in this town of <4000. We love it here in our 96% white town.
