Guest Post by Pat Buchanan
So, how are Biden and the administration he leads doing with the American people who put them into office? According to a stunning Washington Post-ABC News poll this weekend, not well, not well at all. If the 2022 elections were held this November, registered voters would back Republican candidates over Democratic opponents 51-41.
Not so long ago, President Joe Biden was being talked of as a transformative president, a second Franklin D. Roosevelt in terms of the domestic agenda he would enact.
And there was substance to the claim.
Early in his presidency, Biden had passed a $1.9 trillion stimulus package. While his majorities in both houses of Congress were razor-thin, they proved sufficient to push through a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill.
Clusters of Republicans backed the Biden infrastructure bill.
A follow-on $3.5 trillion Build Back Better social spending bill to rival New Deal and Great Society measures has broad support — though not for its sticker price — and, even today, still seems possible.
So, how are Biden and the administration he leads doing with the American people who put them into office? According to a stunning Washington Post-ABC News poll this weekend, not well, not well at all.
If the 2022 elections were held this November, registered voters would back Republican candidates over Democratic opponents 51-41.
The GOP voter advantage would translate into a rout of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s House Democrats, loss of the Senate, two years of gridlock and a lame-duck Biden presidency through 2023 and 2024.
If that Post-ABC poll is accurate, Democrats are staring into the abyss.
According to the poll, 70% of Americans have a negative view of how the economy is doing under Biden, while 38%, almost 4 in 10, believe the economy is in “poor” condition.
“About half of Americans overall and political independents blame Biden for fast-rising inflation,” writes the Post, ” … with more than 6 in 10 saying he has accomplished ‘not much’ or ‘little or nothing.’” Seven in 10 independent voters believe Biden’s presidency lacks any real achievements.
Is this Biden likely to enter the history books alongside FDR?
Probably not. Only 8% of the nation thinks he has done a “great deal” in his first year, which corresponds to FDR’s famous “First 100 Days” in 1933.
On how he is handling his presidency overall, Biden has the approval of 41% and the disapproval of 53% of all Americans.
Biden is 12 points underwater. While he has suffered attrition in his own Democratic Party, it is among independent voters that his losses have been staggering.
On the issues of whether the government is spending too much and whether parents should play a role in deciding what their children are taught in public schools, the GOP stance is overwhelmingly supported.
That same Sunday edition of the Post that described the Biden polls contained a lengthy political analysis of the relative strength of Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as potential Democratic nominees in 2024.
The unstated premise of the piece seemed to be that Biden’s first term is his last, if he makes it through to 2024.
About the plunge in support for Biden’s presidency, the questions are coming fast. Can he turn this around? Is the attrition inexorable? Are we headed for a broken presidency?
To answer the questions, consider the root causes of Biden’s decline.
Four of the issue areas where Biden and the Democrats are on the defensive are: inflation, immigration, crime and education.
In October, the consumer price index was 6.2% above a year ago, the highest surge in inflation in 31 years.
The family necessities of food and gasoline are showing some of the steepest price increases. Several months ago, Democrats were saying the price surge was “transitory.” Few are saying that now.
The choked supply chain for commodities from abroad looks like it will take a long time to unravel. Americans are looking at a Thanksgiving with fewer turkeys and a Christmas with fewer toys.
As for the border crisis, which was put in Harris’ portfolio, it is seeing the highest rates of illegal entries in decades, with more than a million having crossed our southern border since Biden took the oath. And they are still coming.
In the aftermath of the “Defund the Police!” protests and riots in the wake of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis in 2020, resignations and retirements of cops have gone hand in hand with an explosion of murders and homicides in America’s major cities.
Chicago has become notorious for its weekly casualty count.
On the education issue, which now embraces the rights of parents to review what their children are being taught about race, sex and morality in their public schools — the issue probably cost Terry McAuliffe his chance to return as governor of Virginia.
And Republicans now seem in step with suburban parents as Democrats appear to be on the side of leftist teachers unions.
The returns from Virginia and New Jersey on Election Day seem to confirm what ABC and the Post found in their poll:
A tidal wave may be coming, and if it does not crest and break before November 2022, it will swamp Nancy Pelosi’s House and Chuck Schumer’s Senate, and it will sink Joe Biden’s White House.
That’s the climate change Democrats ought to be worrying about.

If voting really mattered anymore, dems would be worried, but it don’t so they ain’t.
Yup. Counting tomorrows “votes” feels good man, like owning the “libs” on twitter. I remember when “you didn’t build this…I’m going to fundamentally change this country…” blaq jesus from Punahou first got elected and all this silliness was behind us for good.
I haven’t heard anything about changing the voting system so I won’t hold my breath. The progressive left are a bunch of idiots.
National polls mean absolutely nothing. There are 435 House districts and probably 400 are 90% assured of going to the party in power at the state level. In many large cities, there is almost a 0% chance a Republican can win outside of a suburban district or two that have been set aside for them. Even if a strong candidate rose in one of these inner city districts, the dem machine would overwhelm them with manufactured votes.
BTW – If voting mattered, they would not let us do it.
You can not. CAN NOT – let me be clear CAN NOT do representative sampling in a country like what the USA has become. It is not simply a matter of lying. They make it up because they have to. There is no reliable way to sample such an heterogeneous admixture.
They may come close, they may get lucky, but it is impossible for them to do what Gallup used to be able to do.

“While his majorities in both houses of Congress were razor-thin…..”
These ‘razor thin majorities” have become standard in EVERY SINGLE ELECTION now. A suspicious man might find thus a suspicious indication of collusion and Tomfoolery.
Pat Buchanan just chews his cud and carries on waxing his Edsel with Dippity Doo.
“A boy makes the transition to Manhood the day his father hands him his first bottle of Wildroot.”
Pfffft. I had to hock a bottle of Southern Comfort from my old man’s liquor cabinet when I was eleven. Shit was taking too long back then.
Pat was great in his day. But I now only read him when I want to be amused by the old-style Dem-Rep horserace-baseball shit. At this point, this stuff is pretty irrelevant, aside from the timing of some events, such as who gets killed and when. I’m already dead, so there’s not much pressure….
The people in those polls who think Biden hasn’t done much so far are dead wrong. He’s done a lot, and it’s all bad. He’s done so much that the country may never recover from it.
If you think Joe Biden is in charge or making personal decisions you’re in no better shape than the people who actually voted for him.
Of course. Biden is just the front man. To be accurate, the poles should have asked about what the Biden Regime has done.
The democrats should really be worried about the early voting that is about to start happening with biden’s continued policys of destroying this country. Many people are considering an early voting campaign based on lead ballots.
Many toddlers are writing to Santa this year, too. It fills a man with burning shame for them when they’re ostensibly adults, though.
Have you tried a lucky rabbit’s foot? I calculate that would have the same impact as the voting fairy tale.
What difference do polls mean when the Democrats are going to cheat again with “mail-in ballots” in the urban blue areas they control?
For example: Don’t think for one minute that Gov. Horse Teeth Murphy won re-election in NJ. The Dems cheated with late-arriving “mail-in ballots” from Newark, Paterson, Passaic, Hudson County, Union County, Atlantic City and Camden. They knew how many they needed after early election day returns started coming in and “found” enough ballots for Gov. Horse Teeth to win.
They also cheated by going into nursing homes and requesting absentee mail-in ballots for residents, then having the staff fill out the ballots for Democrats.
The Democrats refuse to clear the voter rolls of the dead and those who’ve moved in these areas they control, and they know exactly who these people are. These are the voters for whom they request absentee ballots, which they then harvest, as well as the aforementioned nursing homes.
The Dems have this down to a science and there’s no one with the power or guts to oppose them; just look at that lightweight Cittarelli in NJ. He folded like a cheap suit, rather than scream and demand an audit and subsequent recount, declaring that he wouldn’t abide “conspiracy theories” about election fraud and adding that he’d be running again in 2025.
I have news for you, Jack: 2021 was your only shot. If you think you’re going to get this close to winning again in NJ as a Republican, you have rocks in your head.
Also: Democrat NJ Senate President Steve Sweeney lost to the GOP truck driver because he was an impediment to Murphy’s far-left agenda and Murphy didn’t care for him. Sweeney isn’t a limo leftist like Murphy, he’s a pragmatic (and crooked) NJ politician who would run as whatever party would give him the best chance of power (in NJ, that’s Democrat).
Sweeney made a huge error by declining to criticize Murphy’s draconian lockdowns that were damaging his constituents, opting instead to keep quiet and not risk angering Murphy and jeopardizing DNC campaign funds (Murphy is, or was, the DNC Finance Chair). His constituents made him pay, but notice how Sweeney made the claim days later that they “found” 12,000 ballots – presumably “mail-in ballots” and refused to concede. Now, where did these 12,000 “mail-in ballots come from and where were they hidden? 12,000 is a lot of ballots. It was to no avail for poor Sweeney, for he was already earmarked for destruction by Gov. Horse Teeth…
Boomers crack me up with their beliefs in children’s fantasies like voting and polls.
It’s equally amusing when they pontificate at length concerning the minutiae of the puppet show.
“The Whigs real mistake was failing to cement their lead in the run-off by-election of ’19, when the Braxton-Hicks ticket was poised to reject a referendum for insular ex parte accommodations. This led directly to the Taxation of Secondary Means legislation clearing the Congressional hurdles represented by the Coalition of the Credulous and the disastrous loss of key seats for the Tories.”
Damn, it’s like people who pride themselves on knowing the names of the key grip and best boy for the original Star Wars while concurrently believing Luke Skywalker is real.
I used to do the same thing, but they are my parent’s generation.
I saw this meme recently “When I was a child, I suspected adults were stupid. I had no idea how dire the situation is.”
So you two think you won’t get old? You two think your generation is perfect and sans flaws? If so then you two are idiots….and your situations are beyond dire….Hubris and arrogance do not intelligence make, quite the opposite. Now keep on patting yourselves on the back you little immortals, you.
Things will not get better in the US until there is a bounty on liberals……
Conservatives are no less brainwashed.
There is a direct correlation between being brainwashed and laying this Collapse at the feet of ‘ liberals’, I find.
True conservatives believe in live and let live. True liberals believe in tyranny and forcing their agenda upon everyone else. I will not live under tyranny.
It depends on your definition of “conservative”. Is there one?
Of course there is a definition. A true conservative believes that each person is a sovereign, and therefore owns themself, and their life. They believe government is subservient to the rights of the individuals.
At the other end of the political spectrum are liberals, who basically believe in feudalism, and that the individual is a possession of the State and must be subservient to the State who owns all the individuals. One end of the political spectrum is freedom and liberty, and the other is tyranny and slavery.
We the People didn’t elect this POS which is why he and the dcmocommies don’t give a shit what we think.
If you could rig an election as well as democrats can, would you be worried?
They are worried. Very worried. We are still armed, and one day may muster the courage to stand up for ourselves in which case they are f^cked.

The only pollster that matters is Dominion. And what action is being taken against Dominion? Zero!
Apparently you were not paying attention to Virginia.
The first wrong assumption was you assumed Biden was elected. He was not and is an illegitimate occupant of the White House. 2020 was a coup and we should never forget it nor accept Biden as President.
The second assumption you think they are just bad at governing. No, this train wreck is intentional on their part. They are going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink at us to try to destroy our Republic.
The third assumption is you think they will give up power at the next election. They won’t. They will either cheat again blatantly or suspend the election altogether.
“So, how are Biden and the administration he leads doing with the American people who put them into office?”
Who put them in office?
