I had a serious crush on Dorothy Kilgallen a regular panelist on the teevee show “What’s My Line”.

Soupy Sales was pretty darn funny until he lost it, getting an eyeful of some girl’s knockers behind the scenes while “live”.

You are old. I remember What’s My Line, but not old enough to have a crush.
Who was Kitty Carlise? I’ve Got a Secret, maybe?

And a carton of cigarettes was the consolation prize, as I recall.

I’ll catch hell for this from every angle but:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Thematic structuring and raising stakes from episode to episode throughout the show was outstanding. Genuine drama, horror and comedy interweaved brilliantly.

And yes, firefly was better for 13 episodes, but that can’t compare to 7 seasons.

Seinfeld, I got rid of my TV when that went off the air. I have not regretted not paying the cable company Spectrum just pisses me off all the time. I do still have a cable bill.

Tucker Carlson is about the only “news” show worth watching these days. Ernie Kovacks was an outstanding pioneer, along with Monty Python.

Not ‘the best tv show of all time’ … but certainly one that had a profound influence upon me and the rest of the kids growing up in Cleveland in the early-’50s — The Captain Penny Show on WEWS-TV channel 5.

You see, the school I attended K through 5th grade sent us home for lunch … and Captain Penny was on at that time.

Part of his show contained really important documentaries — documentaries where many of us learned valuable lessons on how to deal with life’s moments.

Those documentaries were ‘The Little Rascals’ (also known as the ‘Our Gang Comedies’) and ‘The Three Stooges’ (the ORIGINAL Stooges).

These documentaries provided the framework for our growth and development — and gave the nuns that taught us conniptions as we tried to re-live those historic moments in our daily lives in school.

‘Those were the days, my friend …
We thought they’d never end … ‘

Best to one and all here today … hope to see all of you back here tomorrow and the next day and …

Previously, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Night Gallery for drama.
Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Ernie Kovacs and Carol Burnett for comedy.
Nowadays, The Expanse, Jack Reacher, Loki and maybe The Mandalorian for drama;
I have a hard time watching current comedy, everyone’s too woke.

This is easy for me. As a boy I never missed an episode of PALADIN! I own every single one on disc.

I have fond memories of my Father and I watching this cultured, principled, derringer backed up, two fisted, fast drawing, West Point graduate, beautiful women magnet, bad ass man in black roaming the post-Civil War west from gunfight to adventures to big fees.

I was a lone wolf free-lance business theft/fraud investigator from 2005 to 2015, and my first website was black and gold (as was my business card). I had the KNIGHT on the home page…and the words: HAVE INVESTIGATION WILL TRAVEL.

Paladin inspired me to start to learn Chess at 7…and those tactical/strategic thinking lessons, and the four principles of chess, have served me well my entire life. I humped a chess set in my pack in Nam, packed one in my sea bag when I worked the rigs in the gulf, kept one in my van when I toured the country Route 66 style…and have collected some beautiful and expensive sets because of his inspiration that nurtured my love for Chess War.

I love the opening when he would draw and pronoun a piercing line from the coming half hour adventure and his inevitable violent search for justice, survival, and when appropriate loud rich laughter.

Each show was usually a 30 minute morality play and I have introduced my son-in law and grandson to selected episodes that contain worthy lessons.

Dayum AP, excellent critical analysis. Reminds me of my old AP English literature class, deconstruction of the classics and all I could think was “I thought it was just a story”.
