SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Tomaso Albinoni – Adagio

Today, I am going to play some music by the great Tomasi Giovanni Albinoni.

Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (8 June 1671 – 17 January 1751) was a Venetian Baroque composer.

His output includes operas, concertos, sonatas for one to six instruments, sinfonias, and solo cantatas. While famous in his day as an opera composer, he is known today for his instrumental music, especially his concertos. He is best remembered today for a work called “Adagio in G Minor.”

We’ll start with that famous piece “Adagio in G Minor.” It is a beautiful adagio – one that can be listened to over and over again as I often have. This beautiful rendition is performed by the Copernicus Chamber Orchestra with Horst Sohm at the baton.

Violins: Anna Piniuta, Michał Kwaśniak, Marta Rusiniak, Ewa Żołyniak, Aleksandra Pilarska Sabina Milewska, Katarzyna Składanek,

Violas: Magdalena Swiąder, Weronika Maniakowska,

Violoncellos: Michał Litwa, Joanna Laskowska,

Bass: Krzysztof Sypek,

Director/Dirigent: Horst Sohm

We’ll conclude with another oboe piece. This is Albinoni’s concerto for two oboes in C Major, Op.9, No.9
