You are right. I am by far a trained killer. Killed many animals, never a person. I think when the protective instincts kick in, especially when your kids are involved, you will do what is needed. With that, I am mentally prepared to take whatever action is needed to protect my family. Any consequences, even mentally, after that I will have to deal with.

this is wasteful. you should say, “good, I’ll have lots of work for you to do to contribute to everyone’s survival.” and you should take charge and have that work lined up to go.
when you say it, check their reaction. that will tell you if they’ll be able to contribute or not.

I’ve witnessed first hand not so much food running out but food getting so expensive that much of an entire county’s urban population starts going hungry. This happened in Indonesia in 1997 when the rupiah collapsed – Indonesia imported much of its rice and bean curd so after the currency collapse prices increased about 80% within 3 months. Riots ensued, the middle class fired all their domestic help, unemployment had to be 40% plus, and political instability worsened to the point of the IMF stepping in and mandating the direction of the country. Banks own Indonesia now but they do have much more media savvy leadership. Funny how the first thing that gets installed when a country sells out is a slick propaganda delivery network.

the most likely scenario. simplest prep anyone can make is stocking vitamins.
Especially vitamin c. If fresh food is hard to come by, some Tang, or lime juice, lemon, etc. Peanut butter is excellent to store, has saved children from malnutrition.
The recent Jif recall has created a peanut butter shortage around here. My stash was part of the recall, so I returned it for credit and now finding good peanut butter is difficult.

Malaysian ringgit was the Soros currency wreck. Indonesia did it all on their own as their currency wasn’t internationally traded in 1997. After the Thai Baht collapsed and the IMF threw USD $4 bln at the Thai treasury, Suharto figured he’d get himself some of that IMF largess so Indonesia partially floated their rupiah expecting it to drop enough to get IMF bailouts so they printed up trillions of the rupiah that nobody wanted. Presto – hyperinflation. Who woulda thunk that?
