SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Silvestre Revueltas – La Noche de los mayas

Today, I want to re-visit the work of Alondra de la Parra and the Orchestre de Paris. I believe there was some confusion on her background the last time we offered her works. She was born to Mexican parents in New York City in 1980 technically making her an American. Her family moved back to Mexico City when she was three years old. It was there that she began her music studies with the piano at age seven and the cello at age thirteen. It was at the age of thirteen that she developed an interest in conducting. After a year of study at a local music school she studied composition at the Centre of Research and Musical Studies in Mexico City. At age nineteen, she returned to New York City to study piano and conducting at the Manhatten School of Music. She obtained a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance under the direction of Jeffrey Cohen and studied conducting with Michael Charry and Kennetyh Kiesler, receiving an MA in Conducting in 2008. Her other conducting mentors include Marin Alsop, Charles Dutoit, and Kurt Masur. She served as an apprentice conductor with the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra.

She is most always referred to as a Mexican conductor, and Mexico calls her their own. Whether she is conducting the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra or the Orchestre de Paris, it is easy to pick out the Latin rhythm or beat in her work. Thus the comment fro weeks back that when she conducts the Orchestre de Paris she is said to weave musical bridges between Mexico and France.

It is especially easy to detect that Latin rhythm when the piece she is conducting is a Latin composition such as today’s piece.

Today’s piece is titled : La Noche de los mayas (the Night of the Mayans). It was written by Silvestre Revueltas (1899 – 1940) for a Mexican film by the same name. Revueltas was a Mexican composer of classical music, a violinist and a conductor. He died in Mexico City from pneumonia (complicated by alcoholism) at the age of forty.

So, let’s give a listen to this beautiful work.

GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! Abba – Orkester Mandolina Ljubljana

For those that wish to spend a little less time and listen to something shorter, I’ll toss in a few shorts by the Orkester Mandolina Ljubljana from Slovenia.

The first piece should be recognizable to all of you ABBA lovers as they perform Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

Vangelis 1492 CONQUEST OF PARADISE

Next up is the Vengelis piece “1492 Conquest of Paradise” featured here a year or so ago.

A very pretty piece of music it is.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

We’ll close out with “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…RIP Ennio.

Thanks for lending an ear.

Have a fun Sunday.

See you next week.

Thanks so very much for all your GREAT notes on the fabulous lady conductor.
Really enjoy her style and enthusiasm.

Glad to see there is someone else who loves Yuja Wang’s work. A true international star that has evolved from a genius child prodigy is recognized!

Here is a submittal of a rousing and well known piece.

Long story..my internet went down on 7-2. Called AT&T on 7-4. They said they would send out a repair man on 7-15. I went to bed at 2AM that morning. Got up at 11AM and internet was down. When I went to town my neighbor and his friends had installed a large fence across the front of his property-probably 40 posts. Pretty sure the moron cut the line
Probably miss another FF. That’s the breaks I guess.

As long as you’re OK, that’s what the concern was.
Email went unanswered, so the internet failure was suspected.
Glad to hear from you.
Say Hi for me, plz.

They only put those lines about 4″ deep. I cut my phone line while putting in a flower bed and was shocked at how shallow the phone line was buried. Before they replaced it, I installed a piece of flexible PVC 16″ deep to get under the bed and sidewalk. The PVC came in handy last year when I got high speed internet from Comcast installed, but it too is only 4″ deep across my yard.

Good luck with getting Ma Bell to fix it in a timely manner.

It has been a beautiful day here in W. TN. Drier air and lower temps allowed me to sit on the patio and shell my Lima beans while listening to some wonderful music presented by my TBP brothers Steve C. and nkit. Also thanks to Ursel for contributing some selections from his beautiful and talented girlfriend, Yuja.

Great job as usual gentlemen. Before you know it all of us here on the platform will no longer be deplorable but classy ladies and gentlemen.

Proof Positive had this posted later on in the day on 7/10/22.
Love me some good harmony, and this guy has exceptional range with his voice.

He also does a rendition of It Is Well With My Soul.
