Fertilizer Bans Lead to Food Scarcity

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

Canada’s Trudeau is proposing to reduce fertilizer with the globalist goal of achieving zero emissions by 2030. Every indicator says that food scarcity is on the rise, and yet politicians are continually making it harder to farm. Trudeau’s plan entails a 30% reduction in fertilizer and is a direct threat to the food supply.

Fertilizer Canada believes this plan will begin hurting agriculture as soon as 2023. The agency believes that Canada may lose over 160 million metric tons of spring wheat, canola, and corn between 2023-2030 alone. Alberta Minister of Agriculture Nate Horner stated that the world is looking at Canada to increase food production amid scarcity and that the government is doing much more harm than good with this ban. “The world is looking for Canada to increase production and be a solution to global food shortages. The Federal government needs to display that they understand this. They owe it to our producers,” he stated.

Who else placed bans on fertilizer, and how did it go? Let’s look at Sri Lanka, which is currently in ruins. Disgraced former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa promised to transition to “organic” farming. In April 2022, the government banned synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and forced two million farmers to switch to organic farming. The plan failed and the downturn was swift. Rice production fell 20% in six months and continued to fall until the nation began importing rice for the first time in recent history.

The Rajapaksa Administration knew it was in serious trouble by 2021 and tried to offer farmers incentives for losses incurred. Now, over 86% of the population of Sri Lanka is food insecure. Countries looking to ban or reduce fertilizer must realize that the outcome will lead to less food. Should we let people starve to “save” the environment?

And then, suddenly , for no reason whatsoever, there was not enough food to feed the people. Some people died.

Just ban the animals, but there will be green bio-mass. Of course that will be burned to cook the grasshoppers.

As described in Sri Lanka, you cannot switch from industrialized commercial farming to organic farming from one season to the next and expect any kind of yield. It takes years to decades to heal the soil and cultivate it in a healthy way and acquire the knowledge and expertise to fight the pests and take a crop to harvest organically.

I am about to dig up our potatoes, which I planted way too late.. If past experience guides me, I am not too hopeful.

But, hey, who was it that said growing food only requires throwing some seeds in the ground and waiting?

“But, hey, who was it that said growing food only requires throwing some seeds in the ground and waiting?”

Years of experience has taught me that the above comment is so far from the truth. It is a constant learning experience that still results in some failures to this day. After all of struggles with getting the soil to optimal health (which differs for each garden), dealing with weeds, watering, and so on…I am dealing with stupid ass rabbits right now. Mommy and her little one have been enjoying my green beans. Mommy has been removed, the little one is quite the sneak. It has evaded my live traps because it is so small. I even put a big ole rat trap out and it evaded that. I can’t perch all day waiting to shoot the dang thing! And don’t get me started on the Japanese beetles…they love the Broccoli plants.

My neighbor runs a farm supply store and his favorite saying is “gardening is an annual experiment and the results are different every single year.” His tomatoes are always some of the biggest and prettiest I have ever seen, but this year, his plants are stunted and his production has been minimal. My tomatoes have been quite prolific this year, which is not normal for me.

who was it that said growing food only requires throwing some seeds in the ground and waiting? That is exactly what I did with some small sweet potatoes I had in the bin. I cut them in quarters and planted them next to the barn. Every single one of them sprouted and came up and has produced some beautiful vines. We will see in a couple of months whether the roots developed.

Yep, those pointy-headed bureaucrats, politicians and cubicle dwellers always like to point out how superfluous and useless is the work of their underlings–those that actually make things work. The farmers, mechanics, truck drivers, filter changers, engineers, and pothole patchers make their world go round. Time for Atlas to shrug and thus identify who the real useless eaters are. The more they blow, the more they need to go.

I, too, got my potatoes in late. I finished harvesting the reds this morning and my crop is moderate; way too many small potatoes (golf ball to marble) and because of the drought and then plentiful rain, many of the large ones are split. I’ll have to pressure can much of the crop in order to keep it.

I used the Ruth Stout method so my results may vary from yours.

I’ll start on the whites as weather permits, but I expect much the same results.

Good luck with your harvest.

The Ruth Stout method does nothing to loosen up the hardpan as many who’ve tried found out. That takes a subsoiler hooked to a tractor or a very sturdy fork. Don’t ask how I know.

Hardpan is going to be a serious issue. You can’t use Ruth Stout over asphalt or concrete. I’d suggest that you till or subsoil in plenty of mulch and compost to get the process started and then build topsoil from there.

If you want quick results, why not raised bed gardening and plenty of mulch to keep down the weeds and hold the moisture? Then over time, build up the garden plot.

In KY, I’ve got clay based soil with plenty of small rocks. Not ideal, but over the last 10 years I’ve built up some decent loam in the garden areas. The yard (I would never call it a lawn) sucks.

I read a story about a guy who bought land in the Ozarks, and his comment was that it was a place where you could buy land without getting any soil.

RayK, second that. It even worse in the Ouachitas. Takes about three years to build any kind of garden in most places, lots of wood chips, manure, etc. On new spots or expanding a garden need to use the double dig down with a stout fork and a stout back. Then start picking out enough rocks to make your new driveway. No one said it was easy except Bloomburg as mentioned above.

Countries looking to ban or reduce fertilizer must realize that the outcome will lead to less food.

As if the countries are banning fertilizer, demanding masking, vax and all the other BS with truly honest and good intentions. They just need to ‘realize’ that what they are doing is harmful and to reverse their policies.

Do these asswipes writing this drivel really think the other asswipes running the countries into the ground are innocently on a wrong trajectory, and if only the’d see their harm they’d change that curse??? Answer that everyone with a brain already knows, No asswipe, its intentional, and surprise surprise, they don’t give a shit…

Everyone knows, I hope, that these measures are not about a 30% reduction in emissions, nor a 30% reduction in fertilizer, nor even a 30% reduction in food production.
They’re about a 30% reduction in the number of farmers.
When small farmers are entirely eliminated, the consolidated big farms will go right back to full emissions, fertilizer use, and food production.
Like everything else it’s about control.

If 30% reduction equates to 70% reduction in population then mission accomplished.

Farming is bad for the environment. Stop all farming, plant and animal. Hunting is also bad for the environment so ban that too. Humans are bad for the environment so ban humans. Problem solved.

Don’t forget about water….

Official water shortage: from now on a national crisis team will distribute the scarce water

Several water boards have already taken measures in recent weeks. For example, in some areas there is a ban on spraying for agriculture and industry and locks may be used less frequently by shipping…

Now that there is actually a water shortage, the so-called displacement series is put into operation. It states that measures will first be taken that are at the expense of agriculture, industry and recreation. They have the lowest priority.

Zero emissions is not possible unless you exterminate humanity. Humans emit carbon every time they exhale. Or fart. All vehicles including electric ones emit carbon. Your refrigerator emits carbon. Plants feed on carbon. Without it they die. Something wants all life on earth dead. Who would want that? A non-carbon based life form.

Organic chemistry used to be defined as: The chemistry of living things or the chemistry of carbon. That is what defines and allows life on this rock–thus far the only rock we know of that has life. The contrary reality that has been concocted has no future. The farther we chase these lies the less future we all have. Many will die because that is the goal by any means.
