Stucky QOTD: Auf Wiedersehn, Europa!

Absolute Fact; Europe just pounded the final nail in their coffin.  This is economic suicide. NO more gas for Europe from Russia. Not. One. Drop.

Effects?  Please this short article;  USA And Europe Shoot Themselves In The Head

Q1: When Europe collapses economically into a Depression  (likely this winter),  what happens to America, and how soon?

Q2:  Make a guess …. what will be the price of natural gas on the markets on Monday?

Q3:  How much will Austrian Peter pay for electricity this winter …  and should we set up a GoFundMe page for him?

=================== =

Me?

Q1: I have no friggin idea … economics is not my forte’. Help me out.  I have read opposing views.  One view says that this is what America wants because we will swoop in buy gobs of European assets for pennies on the dollar.  The other view says that as Europe goes, so goes America, and our own economic demise is imminent.

Q2:  Double, triple, or even quadruple what it was on Friday.  Some so-called experts predict a wild-and-crazy session on Monday. Some predict it will be the official beginning of the end.  Others just yawn. Help me out.

Q3: Peter will be paying a thousand Euros a month to heat his 250 square foot flat.  Absolutely,  let’s help him out!!

Q1-The ones I listen to, Rickards, Schiff, Kiyosaki, etc are predicting a disaster for our economy but not as bad as those fools in Europe.

Q2-Dunno. I don’t do nat gas

Q3-No but I’ll send over a few logs to burn. I wonder if he will participate in the “No Pay UK” program. If they can get a million subscribers then none of them will pay their power bills. Cool ideas, guys.

1. America is somewhat insulated in that we still have some fossil fuel to use, in spite of what Brandon is doing. We can dampen the shock for a while but unless Brandon & Co wake up, we will follow Europe in the next year or so.

2. I think our markets are closed on Monday for Labor Day, so for us there will be no change until Tuesday. By then, the initial panic will have been damped a bit, or it will be spinning out of control. I have no clue.

3. As for Austrian Peter, I’ll contribute to a GiveSendGo fund if it is to help him emigrate out of Europe to somewhere more sane. Sadly, I can’t think of anywhere, certainly not the US, but if someone offers a suggestion for the funding, I’ll consider it.

The gas shortage in Europe is going to seriously mess them up. People will probably get by, heating-wise, but gas to generate electricity will push prices up so high (see that bill from the coffee shop outside of Dublin) that small businesses will go out of business. Aluminum (or aluminium for Peter) smelters have already shuttered in Europe. The US will likely fare much better and (contrary to American assurances) won’t be sending much liquified natural gas to the Krauts. What could mess things up, though, even for the US is Yellen’s cockamamie scheme to impose a price cap on Russian oil. That could cause oil prices to skyrocket. If that happens, it’d be nice if it were before the election. Biden will have almost completely drained the strategic oil reserve by then.

Living in AK, sky high natural gas has been one of our main worries. So far, our gas bill has not gone up much. But if our winter gas bill went form $250, bad months to over a thousand. That would be a bit of a worry, and many people will be going hungry. Yes, Europe is F****D, and it will affect the world. How much is the question? The donation to Peter should be for a plane ticket or for guns and bullets.

I have been thinking about a wood stove. But I have a two-story modern home. There is really no good place to put it, and I don’t even have a pickup for wood. Undoubtably the price of firewood will rocket if natural gas does. I would probably have to block off part of the house if things got really bad. I could make an emergency stove from a metal trash barrel if it went to emergency level. I have thought about this a lot and hopefully the emergency measure will never kick in.

You have a barrel?? You can buy small stick welders for a 100 bucks or get one welded up at a repair shop, automotive or muffler joint. Cheap enough. put a plate of mild steel on top and you have a cook top too… great place to put coffee pot on and simmer, venting the whole thing out a window. You could always put it in the garage or workshop, if you have one when the emergency is passed…

Since this whole energy crisis in Europe got launched by the West “standing with Ukraine”, I’d like to point out that today’s gospel reading happened to be one I’d already been thinking about from Luke 14 about how a king with an army of 10,000 facing invasion by an army of 20,000 should negotiate peace terms. Ukraine’s army was nominally bigger than Russia’s invasion force, but Russia was/is overwhelmingly stronger in every respect. Ukraine was reportedly close to ceding enough territory in April in Istanbul to achieve peace, but America sent its messenger boy, Boris Johnson, to tell Zelensky that peace was unacceptable and that he had to fight to the last Ukrainian. It’s a pity that Zelensky didn’t follow the advice in Luke 14.

The Bill Witherers usta’ lean on “If goods don’t cross borders, armies (bads) will.” (And surely that catchy slogan remains affixed to many a bumper.)

But, Hold On, Uncle Sam&Dave:

“Commercial capitalism arose when merchants, carrying goods from one area to another, were able to sell those goods at their destination for a price which covered original cost, all costs of moving the goods, including the merchant’s expenses, & a profit. This development, which began as the movement of luxury goods, increased wealth because it led to specialization of activities both in crafts & in agriculture, which increased skills & output, & also brought into the market new commodities.

Eventually, this stage of commercial capitalism became institutionalized into a restrictive system, sometimes called “mercantilism,” in which merchants sought to gain profits not from the movements of goods but from restricting the movements of goods. Thus the pursuit of profits, which had earlier led to increased prosperity by increasing trade & production, became a restriction on both trade & production, because profit became an end in itself rather than an accessory mechanism in the economic system as a whole.” ~ Tragedy & Hope, Carroll Quigley

Borders is just the aisles in the bigbox story, multi-storeyed (the prominent feature o’ Babel), Department (of the interior) Store. And the only actual products for sale & consumption are the “various” Weus The People ~ the true Borg whose motto is “Resistance is Infantile – Right, Daddy?”

But maybe C. Quigley shoulda’ consulted with C. Shelby about his gearing.

Profit is an accessory mechanism of correct process, same as checkered flags are. That’s a true fact. And them that deny it is fuct. And those are also the fucters.

But it takes color of law, meaning states & their governing appendages, to cut the process into parts & to “institutionalize” them into ends in themselves … on behalf of those bastards wielding those appendages (this is my rifle, this is my gun, this is for fuckin’, this is for fun…& “profit” was always an end in itself for these pragmatist pricks).

So the Smedley Butler types invade to protect Bananna-kings economic rents – which are definitely *not* profits.

Econ rent is academic bullshit-speak for criminality. For crimes against “the customers.” “Our customers” as in “property.” As in these pecu-people belong to *us.* Hereabouts that gets capitalized. U.S. Which doesn’t care where in the world its pecu-people go – the string remains attached.

“The Borders” are “socially” constructed illusions. The “socially” constructed armies are real. The Carn Age is perpetual. Because “the people,” in the main, are just … what would you say?

I was a Chevy kid. We usta’ say Fix Or Repair Daily. When it comes to “the people” you’re gonna hafta add “Forever” because that jalopy is a piece of junk, a death-wish/trap. “Bang, you’re Zed – & Zed’s Dead, babies.” Cue Charlie Bronson.

That is really miserable and on one occasion in the Channel we had a Army Major with us – he was as sick as a dog and all he wanted to do was jump overboard – yep, it really gets that bad sometimes. We had to strap him to the guard rails overnight so we could get some kip! We told him if he sees a tanker bearing down on us – blow the whistle!

Crossing the Channel is like walking across the I95 (M25 in UK) at rush hour! Those were the days which we all enjoyed immensely. The when I got to Cape Town, I couldn’t believe the seas off the Cape of Good Hope – immense does not describe it!

1) The collapse of the European Union has been a slow motion event. Negative interest rates have allowed them to
borrow money beyond what should have been affordable at higher interest rates. The requirement that European
pension funds have 80-90% of their funds in European Bonds, has destroyed all the pension funds in Europe.
As interest rates rise…the value of the bonds declines. THEIR PENSION FUNDS ARE INSOLVENT.

That means the banks are INSOLVENT. Dutche Bank is the largest holder of derivatives on the plant. When those
fail, it will take the rest of the banks with it. That is why in September 2019, the FED had to start printing money
and cover over night lending rates between US banks and European Banks; the US banks would not take Euro bonds as collateral.

That is why the dollar index has been rising. Capital is fleeing Europe for any where.

When the entire land mass of Europe closes because of the high cost of energy, the dominoes will start to fall and
the whole house of cards comes crashing down.

Expect a US bank holiday. It will happen on a Sunday…maybe on a holiday weekend.

Lats hope the banks open Tuesday.

2) At this point the cost of Nat Gas on Monday is irrelevant. The current cost will bankrupt 75-90% of the households in Europe; not to mention the businesses.

The politicians have taken a stand and they are not likely to say “Opps we got that wrong” They have demonized Putin and Russian to the point they believe their own propaganda.

Governments are about to fall.

There is absolutely no reason for the NATO expansion against Russia. It has asked for years to have a defensive perimeter and the West had given them middle finger.

So now the price of gas is just an abstraction…they can’t pay the current price…

3) It’s going to be more then that. But he couldn’t pay the 1000.00.
He will stop paying his car payment, insurance, credit card bill…every bill he has to to not freeze to death.

All the banks go bust.

Have 3-6 months of food at home.

Get some physical dollars at home.

Of course have some gold and silver if you can.

Good luck

Each time TPTB printed trillions–throughout the West–and pushed the reckoning off to the future. They’ll try it again. Will it work again? By now, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t. Q1: It will happen before winter. Sorry you don’t pay much attention to economics, but I do. The Fed already initiated the stock market (among other things) crash earlier this year when the money supply expansion reversed. That reversal happened before all the major crashes (1929, 2008, etc.). This fall, sometime between Labor Day (tomorrow as I write this) and Election Day, we’re going to have a crash, probably along the lines of 2008 unless the banksters have been preparing all along for it. Why? Because of the interconnectedness of the global economy. German industry shuts down/goes under, so goes DeutscheBank. Which means, so go a lot of our banks, unless they’ve been preparing for it (don’t put it past them).

Q2: Ours here in the US may not rise as sharply at first. Sure, it could go up, but how much LNG can we send over to Europe on a moment’s notice? Not much, it may take a bit to work through the system. And since Resident Brandon is such an ass when it comes to domestic energy, our companies can’t raise production fast enough to offset the exports. Go up? Yep, not sure when or by how much.

Q3: Set up a GoFundMe if you want, I’m not contributing as I have enough of my own problems. I’m not sure if they’re going to pay for electricity if they don’t have any. Kinda like Kalifornia during forest fires, it will just disappear and not be produced (or in Kalifornia’s case, sent over nonexistent wires that burned).

I used to say to the Blacks: “Me Boss – You Savage” – and they loved it – laughed all the way to their shacks. They are such a happy people, with little stuff, and poor by our standards, but they have something special that money can’t buy. I wish I could can it and bring it to UK.

U.S. natural gas is abundant, in PA and TX especially. The problem is compressing it for shipping because there are not many facilities to do so. They are being built now. Prices will rise, but not hugely as in Europe.

On the other hand, if the financial collapse comes maybe this or next month or next year, war could be on the way. Who knows whether this country is capable of defending itself anymore.

Permutations make it all unpredictable, but one thing for sure, U.S. leaders cannot be relied upon to do what is rational.

You have that right on the bow my good sailor mate. Living aboard taught me so much on how to survive on very little – as you say Jo. I had a 36ft, centre cockpit, South African Tosca, rigged for single handing, with a large salon big enough to seat 10 around the table which also housed the bar!

I’ll send you pictures if you email me because another sailor mate in Cape Town, Rick, and I keep in touch – we could all go off as a flotilla! peter@underco,co,uk. I have all my logbooks and often flip through to live the adventures we have had and all the lovely sailors we have met and still stay in touch.
