Virtuosity
by the subway philosopher™
The dismal news of the day disheartens and dismays. Fourth turnings, inflation, energy costs, 87,000 new (armed) IRS agents, Biden’s declaration of war on those who disagree with his political views. It becomes difficult to remember that human beings are capable of great things, in music and art and science and literature and all the other endeavors of creative human consciousness.
While I hate and despise utube with the heat of ten thousand, nay, a million dying suns, unfortunately they are the de facto repository of the world’s demonstrations of musical excellence. And so I offer an example or two of the positive, the greatness, the sheer unbridled talent of humanity.
This chick is brilliant, amazing. Skip to 8:10 if you’re impatient, but be warned you’ll be missing a lot. Her kick-ass rhythms drive this song, this band, to places it could never go without her. She just plain fucking rocks. Her name is Kyoshi.
And a god of guitar – harmonic minor taken to a new level. I am in awe of this man and his musical genius.
There is much good in the world. Celebrate and enjoy it.
The Great White Throne Judgement of God will have absolutely nothing to do with the good anyone has done.
ALL individuals will be judged either unto salvation and our sins pardoned unto eternal life or guilt and condemnation unto eternal torment and spiritual death based on one issue alone.
Did we truly believe upon Jesus the Messiah and God’s only begotten Son.
Good deeds or works by faith only pertain to those already saved and will be judged separately and be applied towards the rewards of true believers only.
Good works of unbelievers cannot save or keep anyone.
Only the grace of God by faith in Jesus can.
As if you would know.
EWS, You are one of the few on this site who understands the truth. Thanks for the encouragement!
You two need to get a prayer room.
Faith alone is nothing but lip service.
Faith alone saves no one.
You constantly mislead people. Your Day Of Reckoning will not be a joyous occasion for you.
Believing in something which defies logic and sensory evidence is not “faith”. It is delusion. The Faith which Jesus spoke of and sought throughout the parables is Knowing.
If I say I have “faith” in Stucky to support ideals of freedom and personal responsibility I say this because I know it. This is true faith, not believing in something somebody says without their providing evidence
Utter rubbish
I stumbled across a Randy Rhoads YT video with Ozzie Osbourne. Holy shit, that guy could sling an axe.
Too bad he died at 25 in a plane crash.
Top 5 in my book.
Randy was classically trained…. his playing on Crazy Train is virtuoso level.
Another Top 5…
Great.
Damn! I love guitar and Steve Vai is new to me. He is a Michelangelo level genius like Slash. He doesn’t need a singer because his guitar does the singing.
Two guitarists I have seen. Tommy Emmanuel is as good as anyone I have seen:
And Slava Grigoryan is one of the better classical guitarists out there:
And another bit Tommy, Over the Rainbow. This guy really is as good as there has ever been. This is simply beautiful and moving:
I don’t doubt you. All in the style you are attracted to. I will say though, I’ve seen more rockers do flamenco, classical etc than the other way around. Maybe I’m wrong?
Probably to do with interests. Tommy can play anything. Here he is playing lead guitar at Steve Vai’s guitar academy. I am sure Vai didn’t choose him to be there by accident! Flamenco isn’t as difficult as classical. I do not think many great electric guitarists would be great at classical as the techniques are too different. But Tommy is a different cat – blues, rock, classical, he is a virtuoso.
Here is Tommy playing electric with Joe Bonamassa (generally considered best blues guitarist in the world, among best ever), who says Tommy is best guitarist there is. Probably no best guitarist, but there is a top handful. Check out his lead guitar work near half way.
Yes, very nice. Guitar is the most versatile musical instrument I know of. These people are top, tippy top, level.
Some of the best posts on TBP have been “What are you listening to now”. I’ve been introduced to some great stuff over the years.
And to hijack the thread a bit more, here is Tommy and his brother (who died young but some thought was even better than Tommy!) playing together in 1986. Long, but a lot of fun to watch:
Nah, Phil could play any lead by ear and play it fast, but Tommy is in another league
Tommy’s great. Check out this vid:
Amazing!
Tommy is the best guitarist in the world. I just wish he’s stop playing those crappy Matons and get himself a Martin
OH YEAH!!! Kyoshi rocks, my kind of girl too !!!
Guess who else ROCKS, three old dudes from Japan . . . Ningen Isu, that’s who, this selection seem appropriate:
And . . . while some may not appreciate his talents or style, Batzorig Vaanchig is indeed a virtuoso, starts slow but gets with it @ 2:30 :
Looks like he’s playing a Mongolian version of the 二胡 er hu, a popular Chinese instrument. Very nice.
The instrument is the national instrument of Mongolia, the morin khuur (horse fiddle.)
