2/ As the supply of wood dried up, its price began to soar and inflation set in, compounding the problem and spreading it to all corners of the economy. With imports from continental Europe insufficient to close the growing supply gap, the resulting crisis was dire.

4/ With a higher energy density than wood, coal is a superior fuel that enabled meaningful improvements in the British economy. Trees could be preserved for construction purposes, homes could be more efficiently heated, and companies could leapfrog their competitors.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
6/ It took little encouragement from the British government for its economy to realize the benefits of coal over wood – the inherent advantages of the material and the phenomenon of creative destruction were sufficient.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
8/ Given this, it might surprise our followers to learn that the European Union and Britain are incentivizing a return to the primitive concept of burning wood for energy on a massive scale.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
10/ In a farce so perverted and obscene that it can only be the work of bloated and arrogant bureaucracies, a carbon accounting loophole is causing huge amounts of CO2 to be pumped into the atmosphere today that will take decades to abate using natural means.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
12/ Once there, the logs are milled, dried, and pressed through specialty extruders at high pressure, all of which require significant primary energy and raise local pollution issues. The resulting pellets are transported to coastal ports where they are loaded onto cargo ships.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
14/ We are meant to believe THIS process is somehow carbon neutral. The loophole that enables this orgy of deforestation boils down to how and where emissions are counted. In the current framework, burning wood is zero-carbon at the point of combustion.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
16/ By burning “carbon neutral” wood pellets and decreasing their use of coal, European environmentalists get to brag to the rest of us about what wonderful stewards of this shared planet they are, all while being among its worst offenders.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
18/ The time value of carbon emissions does not matter to the European environmental elite, despite their repeated hand wringing about how urgent the carbon crisis is, what little time we have to reduce emissions, and the devastating consequences of not acting immediately.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
20/ To the credit of some 800 scientists from virtually all disciplines, serious efforts to reverse course have been made. In 2018, a letter was penned that accurately pointed out the environmental bankruptcy of the current biomass accounting policy. They were ignored.
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
22/ Enviva recently announced it is expanding into Germany. On its last earnings call, the company’s CEO proudly announced the signing of the first in a series of agreements with a German utility operator
— Doomberg (@DoombergT) September 17, 2022
24/ A single pellet of uranium fuel no bigger than your fingertip provides as much energy as a ton of coal (and certainly even more wood). How many trees will be clearcut before this boondoggle of absurdity is stopped? <fin>

Stop Cluttering The Air With Facts … otherwise radical environmentalists’ heads will start exploding all over the place, leaving a lot of clean-up by the rest of US …
I am reminded in the movie Mars Attacks, the aliens heads began exploding when Slim Whitman yodeling music was played—
I’d be happy to clean up in this eventuality.
Coyotes gotta eat…
CO2 is still not a problem.
While human stupidity always is.
Not in the US, anyway: Our Particulate Matter (PM) isn’t even at 10 on the EPA/WHO scales, whereas China logs in at 39.12 — over 4 times as much (the evidence is here: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/most-polluted-countries ). Do we hear about China worrying or making demands their businesses all Go Green?
The US has some of the cleanest air in the world. Shithole countries where billions are jammed into slovenly cities, like Bangladesh and Pakistan, both measuring at 77.1 and 59 PM respectively, naturally have the worst. (The Top Five — Bangladesh and Pakistan being numbers One and Two — rounds out like this: India [51.9], Mongolia [46.6] and Afghanistan [46.5]. Color me non-surprised.) Again, hear any cries of bad pollution from these countries?
No, because they’re also some of the poorest in the world. Their governments can’t use CO2 as an excuse to fleece more wealth from its gullible citizens. So their pollution doesn’t count, you see.
The problem with coal, is the ash contains significant amounts of lead and mercury, which if buried, tends to leach into groundwater and rivers.. Lead and mercury have bad health effects, and damage brain cells. We have enough stupid people already.
Send the coal ash to Africa. Nobody will notice if the niggers’ average IQ drops from 69 to 65.
They could give every nigger in Europe a 50kg bag of coal ash as they’re deported back to Africa.
Did you know that crude petroleum often contains . . . HEAVY METALS, natural gas plants recover significant quantities of MERCURY, coal ash properly disposed of ain’t going to leach into anything.
Do you feel stupid?
Still baffles me how the left can’t understand that CO2 is food for plant life. More CO2 == more plants, more plants == oxygen, you know that thing we breathe.
Well, as many of us has said, the word stupid applies.

Not many cargo ships burn diesel fuel for propulsion. Most diesel fuel consumed on an ocean-going vessel is used for powering the engines which generate electricity for the entire ship and all the other goodies attached on deck.
Bunker oil is what is burned for propulsion in most steam boilers, in my very limited civilian experience which began in March, 1997.
The discussion from Doomberg reminds me of a sea shanty: “A Sailor Ain’t a Sailor Anymore”
That’s an awesome shanty.
And bunker c can be made from coal.
Not a boondoggle at all. All very purposeful.
Actually all booddoggles are purposeful.
They’re shuttering these nuclear power plants because they have been planning on war.Nuclear power plants hit with munitions creates lasting problems well beyond the wars resolution.
With all the internal strife within countries worldwide the only remedy is outwardly projected war.
