A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
nkit, and Steve C.
Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.
We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.
Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.
We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.
A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.
We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.
Celtic Woman – A New Journey
Something a little different this week.
The wonderful voices of the original Celtic Women.
Celtic Woman: A New Journey is the second on-stage production by the group Celtic Woman.
The show was filmed at Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland and featured Hayley Westenra as a new addition to the group.
The album was released on 30 January 2007.
Performers in A New Journey are vocalists Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Hayley Westenra, with Máiréad Nesbitt on violin and Órla Fallon on harp.
I have to admit that Lisa Kelly’s version of ‘The Voice’ at 1:12:10 is my favorite. I think that she’s wonderful.
I also liked Hayley’s version of ‘Lascia Ch’io Pianga’ at 45:52.
This wonderful concert ends appropriately with the song ‘You Raise Me Up’ at 1:26:18.
Enjoy.
This One Comes To Us Thanks To SMC.
Amira Willighagen – O Mio Babbino Caro
Kit, at the risk of piggy backing on your Maria Callas, and at the risk of repeating a Sunday Morning Classic submittal from the past,
Sometimes, a special one is worth a revisit, yes?
Originally aired in 2013…what a gifted, fine young lady. Steal your heart away.
The softie in me hears her, sees the judges reactions, and while laughing,
Tears of appreciation roll down me cheeks.
Enjoy your Sunday morning brunch, classical aficionados.
This One Comes To Us Thanks To ursel doran.
Bach – Concerto in A minor BWV 1065 | Netherlands Bach Society
Something a bit different here. Bach with four harpsichords.
Players’ dedication to Bach and the instruments is something to hear and see.
Gladiator | Film Symphony | Madrid 2013
Today, we will revisit the Film Symphony Orchestra (FSO).
We’ll tee it up and kick it off with their version of The Gladiator in Madrid back in 2013.
FSO – The Cowboys – Overture (John Williams)
Next up is the overture from “The Cowboys” – a John Williams composition.
A genuine piece of cowboy music.
FSO TOUR 2014 Oficial | Gone With the Wind
Next I’ll replay their version of Gone With The Wind.
This music was written byAllie Wrubel and the lyrics by Herb Magidson in 1937.
FSO – Dances with Wolves – “The John Dunbar Theme” (John Barry)
Next up is Dances With Wolves – The John Dunbar Theme.
I realize I have played this in the past, but we here at the Music Mafia love this composition.
FSO – Summon the Heroes (John Williams)
I’ll conclude with FSO performing a John Williams composition titled “Summon The Heroes.”
I hope you have enjoyed this week’s cinema compositions.
Enjoy Sunday!
Vier spanische Pasodobles / Karel Mark Chichon
Deutsche Radio Philharmonie
Karel Mark Chichon, Director
Gustavo Dudamel – Márquez: Danzón No. 2
Gustavo Dudamel leads the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela in a performance of Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez (Proms premiere) at the BBC Proms in 2007.
Lisa Kelly – The Voice
Just in case you missed it…
The Classic Music Mafia – Adding some class to this joint one Sunday at a time.
Heaven help us…
THANKS so very much for your efforts to assemble this place to worship the music here!!
A couple of submittals.
A favorite Yuja piece.
A fascinating entertaining guitar piece.
Thanks ursel.
Being a lover of the harp guitar I really enjoyed that one…
Not classical, but Korean zither covers of pop/rock:

Dammit!!!!
PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT NON-CLASSICAL MUSIC!!!
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
Stucky,
For an old-timer here and one of the senior members you sure don’t take criticism very well.
As you may or may not have noticed, I featured one of your submissions just last week that wasn’t classical.
It’s not is it classical or not as we feature jazz, some pop, and even some folk.
We just don’t do hard rock.
HA!!! I have estimated CONSERVATIVELY that I’ve gotten 20,000 thumbs down since I’ve been here. Been called every name in the book. Insults and name calling even extended to my immediate family. Been told to leave TBP, that I’m a detriment to the site, and am possessed my Satan himself. Some people are convinced I suck DDD. But, I can’t take it?? hahaha I LIVE FOR IT!!!
Hey, you pretty much reamed me a new asshole for posting something not acceptable. So, my comment was me just having a little fun! You sure don’t take joking very well
Stucky,
First and foremost I should say that I actually like you. Really.
You said that I renamed you a new asshole, but here’s what I said:
“Stucky.
First I want to thank you visiting our column and commenting.
But, second I want to remind you that we don’t classify ‘rock’ music as ‘classic’ here.
Or as you put it yourself: “…CLASSIC by Led Zeppelin…”
You are free to post whatever you choose in the comments, and you do.
But, we don’t have to use them later and credit you for it. That’s just not how this works…
There are two times that people are free to post whatever they want and can expect us to use it. The first is on our Christmas edition. The second is on our anniversary edition – the first Sunday in February.
But we might not use even those. It depends on how far out it is for us.
We do appreciate your contribution, but we can’t really use it…
Steve C.”
What part of that was even offensive?
And I take your joking a lot better than you might think…
Well, on second thought …. I can see your point that you did NOT ream me a new asshole. It was more of a Gentle Rod Of Correction. Mea Culpa.
So I get my titties all twisted up in a knot from time to time …. over nothing! That isn’t exactly “news” now, is it? It’s part of my charming personality.
I’m a big fan of you also, Steve, and your “mafia”. You folks continue to an outstanding job each and every Sunday. Keep up the good work, sir, and please accept my apologies.
Thanks a lot Stucky. Your words mean a lot to nkit and me.
We appreciate that you are enjoying our Sunday offerings and hope that you will continue to come and see us.
Perhaps you are ‘The Voice” that Lisa is singing about…
Check it out if you haven’t already. I think she’s wonderful.
