Yeah me too. First little bit of money you give them, they are off putting on a drunk or whatnot. Been that way for a long time, but way worse now. Why you better treat workers that will show up like gold, because there aren’t many that will do that. I reckon the solution is for the system to go tits up so folk will have less choices but to work. That or loot or steal, but we have lots of that too already. Looks more like mad max everyday.

Ten years of tree crew work in my youth. Me and the boys got HAMMERED every night after work. And then we came to work each morning, not even hung over yet, but still drunk!!! Started sweating by eight, and by nine we felt right as rain. Nobody missed work.

The girls would ask us how we all guzzled so much beer and never got fat. I said — come to work with us and I’ll show you.

Unlike most of you judgy bitches, I asked people why they are lying flat, quit quitting or letting it rot.

Responses are why should I work hard? I say family. Responses from men are what family? I ask what do you mean? They say if you get married and have children your wife divorces you takes all of your money and your children. You end a thousand times worse than staying single and you still have no family.

Women in their 20s say career. They then ride the cock carousel and marry some clueless desperate dude after they hit 30.

Men are just working enough to survive and have some fun before they expire.

I think most of us are trying to help rather than be judgy, unless we are being judgy which should be obvious.

I agree with all you said. I wish I was raised to value family, so that I could have had one. I worked all my life until war wounds brought me low, but then I picked myself up and worked hard in school and give that up but I am getting better at working hard to build something of my own.

I think there is nothing more motivating than working for family at my age, but I wish I believed it when I was younger. I also regret that I did not respect myself enough to work for just me.

That’s it right there. God, the Bible, and prayer got kicked out of government schools in the early 60’s and Christian parents didn’t raise hell about it. They lost their first love. The great Commission is to go into all the world and make disciples, but Christians stopped caring whether or not anyone went to else hell. The “I got mine” attitude won out. When people no longer strive to live according to the Scriptures this is what we get.

No, not just that – and that didn’t come out of nowhere, either. I don’t try hard like I used to to, because of how impossible it’s become for so many reasons. You give me back my country, and I’ll go back to humping harder, even now, in my early sixties.

End the Federal Reserve, the IRS, the war machine, the million alphabet fed agencies, end welfare so everyone has to work and it’s safe and quiet at night, mail the illegals back, bring back all the manufacturing back that’s gone (and fuck the unions – they didn’t help, they hurt. I was in ’em).

No more money manipulation – make it so a guy can pay for a family while she stays home, rents and/or mortgages/home prices reflect reality, demand schools educate, reopen loony bins, relegalize arrest for violent and life-quality crimes, erase higher ed subsidies and have young men apprentice for all of the trades, instead. End H1-B visa, etc.

Get rid of feminazism and easy divorce, etc. Hire intelligent, fit men to be cops – they should be your neighbors, invested in the town. They should coach your kid’s Little League, and you should build their porch. You know what else. Arrest perverts messing with kids’ minds sexually, and all those other criminal freaks.

Good point. But as far as trying hard like you used to…to me that’s victim mentality.

I’ve never worked harder in my life until now where I can’t depend on someone else giving me a steady paycheck, regardless of the quality of work I give. If I don’t give my best quality work possible, then I’m out of work. And, for now, I only accept getting paid in cash….for as long as cash is still good.

I agree with most of what you said, but no one has to give up working. Just figure out ways to do it outside the system. It’s the ONLY way at this point. You’re not getting your country back. Plus, if we’re being honest, no one owes you anything. Harsh truth.

Photography (weddings, etc), baking/cooking (have neighbor that makes their own salsa and sells it at Farmer’s markets – and does pretty well), any skill you have that you can teach others and get paid for it? I could keep going with ideas, but not sure you’ll take this well.

Soft spot (out damn spot) for berserkers that I have – having once been one myself (yeah, it’s like addiction: once a ‘serker, always a ‘serker … it’s still in there) – & at risk of “wasting digital ink” (impossible: it’s all exercise) – & without resorting to familiar shorthands that might be construed, or misconstrued, as clichés I’ll borrow from the munchkin Perot: can you hear that sucking sound?

I know you can hear it. Because I can hear your DAC playing it back … volume knob twisted to 11.

And I know that you don’t know the source of the noise. The direction of the shot. Because you trust your immediate senses a little too much – which is all the acoustical engineers need to see to it that you never see it, let alone hear it, coming (you only believe you do).

Your perspective is too close in, too tight. Your elevation is too low. You take certain things for granted that were given to you so that you would take them for granted. But those things that were given to comfort & structure & splint & course “your” path forward were lies.

Not “boomer” lies. Tho that “cohort” (just another cliché) was born into that same bloody bathwater, too. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The lies are systemic. Systemic like the racialists can only wet dream & foam at the mouth nightmare that their schtick is systemic. So systemic that the better term is fundamental.

People lie. That is this species primary attribute. That is the primary force that led to language. Because people, pent up, had to let the lies out, else pop & explode. People are all about exorcising … themselves.

Blaming a thing for being what it is is useless. Is-ness is no problem to be solved. Except to crazy people. Or stupid people. Or people too close in, too tight, too low.

Justice? What a swell dream that is. Well, same thing. Exactly the same thing. Like another munchkin said, paraphrasing, “if you’ve come to Westeros for justice, you’ve come to the wrong place.”

The leopard’s spots & the tiger’s stripes & the human’s deceit are under no authority, including the one called/sold “justice.”

Failure to accept reality is self-deception. Those are the fertile loam-lies beneath & out of which all the other lies grow like weeds.

This is the truth. It doesn’t set anybody free. It sets many, most, freak. Because the truth that goes along with it is that you are on your own. You always were. You always will be.

As such, the best of all possible PainGlosses is to get out of the way. Starting with mentally/psychologically.

That not-building-in-the-floodplain includes, if you manage-happen to find a good second, “two’s company, three’s a corruption (not a cliché) … & 300 million (etc), well, that’s hell.

And each one is in it. Not just you. Each one has his/her “sure, bro” brochure stories where the “social contract” or whatever turned out to be lies. Lies that stole away time & all the lesser resources too, or even life itself.

So that’s it. One does not solve the rain/reign. One merely tries to stay dry. And does not take emulating pisses in others’ ears & lies, calling it rain.

But pissing in the woods is fine. ☻(Until 3’s a corruption joins you there. Piss: the smell of big cities.)

That chart is meaningless.

No carpenter today is working two and half times more/harder/longer/efficiently than in 1971.

Productivity in computing? Perhaps, in factories, maybe, but it isn’t the worker turning out more, it’s the technology speeding the process and people behind those things aren’t workers in the conventional sense, but more minders of tech, like a jockey on a horse.

Work, real work like baling hay, repairing down power lines in a snow storm, installing plumbing or HVAC, fishing on a trawler probably makes up only a tiny percentage of that graph data.

We are in trouble, anyone with any sense can see it, but most are either too wedded to the current system, or too indebted to remove themselves even if they wanted to.

The only way to make it through to the other side of this collapse is the preservation of tradition, the development and daily use of general life skills, and the bonds of kith and kin.

One of the stupidest charts ever created. Say you have a business with two employees. You buy this whizz bang machine that can do the work of one of them. You let one go, and keep the other. You have had a 100% productivity increase. Should you then pay the other 100% more so that his or her wages keep up with productivity?

Also, that chart doesn’t show cost of goods versus wages. Real cost of goods in general have plummeted relative to real wages. Why? Productivity. Products are made for less and less. Ie they get cheaper.

Another thing – what happened around 1948 to 1972? The US came out of WW2 virtually unscathed. It was the greatest boom in US history because there was no competition. Companies were held to ransom by unions, the cost of which continue even today. And in 1972, competition resumed.

The washing machine that we bought together with this house 9 years ago is still going strong, darn it. I am hoping that it breaks any day now so I can do what girls do best: buy shit. It looks like it is about 40 years old. I bet I am out of luck until we sell this house.

As far as houses go, what decade would you reckon was a good home building one? The 1940s/50s?

‘Age’ of home is meaningless. It is SOLELY contingent on WHO built it.

He suggests that he’s offered $25/hr and even $40/hr.
The latter is obvious hyperbole and the first is certainly bullshit as well.
Part time, irregular piece work at $15/hr cannot sustain anyone.
His former employees are out looking for work with a consistent schedule and pay that can allow them to pay rent and keep the lights on — and they may not be able to find it.
Most here seem to assume that workers are getting on welfare or disability. Some may, but not most. That may change however.
People seem to either conveniently forget the Cloward Piven strategy, or never understood it. This isn’t about laziness, it’s about utilizing individuals’ rational economic self interest to destroy the economy and the nation.

yes, starting at $15 tells you a bit about what is going on.

But I think the big problem is usury.

Credit card rates of 28%?

Even setting that aside, every dollar is constantly eaten away by some level of usury, and that does not include inflation.

That guy’s customer is paying usury on his home. That guy himself is paying usury on his truck and tools. His insurance company is paying usury on their payroll loans that get rolled over.

It just goes on and on. What amount of interest does anyone pay out of his paycheck? Car loans, mortgage, credit cards, usury on payments like car, medical, homeowner, rental, liability, disability insurances and so on? (All insurance is typically due in full the first day of coverage, but is converted to monthly payments with a financing fee.)

So take all that usury, and figure out that a person’s employer has to pay enough for him to cover his living and all the usury baked into it. Then take that company and figure it has to charge enough to pay all the expenses of its employees plus all of their accumulated usury, and it has to pay its own usury for property, plant, equipment, payroll, etc. and it has to charge enough for its products to be able to pay for all the foregoing, which folds another level of usury onto the cost its customer’s pay.

When usury has infected an economy, no matter how small the rate, it compounds so quickly and touches ever transaction that it cannot be escaped.

Debt is bad, but mostly because usury never, ever ends, and it affects you massively, even those of you who are debt free.

I have been wondering about that. It is global, too. At the coffee cart at Dublin airport, a sign said “As is the case everywhere, we have a hard time finding employees to serve you, so please be kind to those that showed up for work.” The ice cream shop guy in Germany said that he has always had a hard time to find wait staff, but now he notices that every single business is looking to hire. At the amusement park, half of the rides were closed because they had no employees.

It cannot be all the welfare state, can it? That everyone is more comfortable with government handouts than trying to work and earn more than that? In every country all at the same time? Or are they all too disabled or too dead from the jab to work? That’s not my experience in my circles. There are complaints of deep vein thromboses, chronic jab-injection site pain etc., but everybody is still actually working.

I am currently reading the book “Nickled and dimed”. Maybe it will give me insight. It reminds me of my first job at the sausage factory in Germany, where the glass jars and the sausages come by on conveyor belts and you have to grab them and put them in jars, complete with slaps on your bum by your supervisor if you were pretty. Ah, the good old days. All of my coworkers were head scarved Turkish women who had been doing this job for decades and I wondered how their brains were still functioning. All for $5 per hour and for a 6 week time period in summer as a high schooler, after which I became a vegetarian for a month because I couldn’t stand the sausage smell any more.

Maybe.
Black can be quite slimming, tho, you know? ☻

(Or maybe atmospheres of pressure-girdling can be quite slimming.)

As in motivating.

Calories, empty, full, or in between might be where a given nervous sysetm/personality finds them.

Including a given testoic’s testockpile, of course. That has some to do with the rise & shine. Or the sink & rise & shine.

This reminds me. So just ordered Nestor’s book about free divers. You may recall.

Sunlit blue, dive down ~ or the weight of your own organism pulls you down ~ dark. Solitude. Weight. Pressure. Discomfort. Pain. Revelation. Creativity. Strength. Truth.

Or significantly more truth than is accessible to the average extrovampire … whose pains teach the helplessness, & how to leaven-pass it around (like the bread fedres has all passing around).

“I’ll scratch your back, & bite into your neck, if you scratch mine.”

But anger. That can be good star-fuel-stuff, too.

Of course, the way out is through. It’s the only way out.

40 years in the desert or 400 feet down into the desert’s perfect disguise, it’s you. Just you. (Even if you are down there, or out there, in a school of your best extrovampire pals.)

Just looked. There is blue licorice. But I like red. And black.

Desiderata: Original Text
This is the original text from the book where Desiderata was first published.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

This was performed by Leonard Nimoy on his album, The Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy. It resonated with me even at that early age.

It’s why HSF’s three word message to 18 year old self was the best:

DO YOUR BEST.

It’s also the only lesson in our homeschool curriculum. Even if it means beating the final boss in Splatoon 3 (which would not be my priority, but there you have it).

I’d say for your own enjoyment of the simple knowledge of a job well done.

Like the fridge I cleaned out today. Makes me happy every time I open it now. No praise needed from anybody.

I’m wondering why there’s no subfloor applied to the deck prior to exterior wall construction? The interior walls are then framed after that.

I’m sure he’ll blame that on the workers!

Last two emloyees wrecked a company pickup in early 2010. Fired on the spot and drunk, DUI ensued, almost lost insurance. They then asked NC Unemployment Sceurity Comm. for vacation pay due later in the year. NC disagreed, so they sued me personally. And lost. Didn’t bother to countersue, as you can’t get blood from a rock.

Zero employees since then. If I wrote an e-book , it’d be about how to run a biz with zero employees like I’ve done since 2010.

Yep, no employees was my solution too. Going back to the late ’80s.

Sumployees & simployees have been common trouble for a long time. I started noticing them in the 70’s. They got a much bigger club nowadays.

if this article had been about how we need more immigrants b/c americans will not work, there would have been many comments disagreeing w/the writer of the article —
anytime we talk immigration reform we need to talk fsa reform in the same conversation–

This is what happens when wages don’t keep up with inflation.

Do wages need to double to make work worth what it used to be? Probably. Maybe more than double.

High inflation creates chaos. It will take years for things to return to equalibrium.

Its not just wages not keeping up with inflation – its the taxes on top of it. I’ve been working for 45 years in one form or another and never have I gotten ahead, even once I received a professional degree. Wages did not keep up with inflation, and taxes soared (Canada). My father, born in 1930, asked when I would be retiring as I’m nearly 60. He has a tough time understanding that my standard of living is 1/2 what his was, and that I can’t retire anytime soon if ever. I have an office job, but both my knees are bone-on-bone and I’m in constant pain with limited mobility. Yet, I’m still having to do all my own home renos by myself: framing, plumbing, electrical, flooring, even drywall and mudding. Even if I could find any trustworthy, reliable contractors to do this work for me, I could not afford to hire them.

You and me both brother… jack of all master of none. Some stuff I do well and others… close enough…

Worked outside most my life, logging, construction, electrician… Worked office to when I got injured and went to BCIT for marine ops pushing paper to move bulk goods, hated it. Only time I collected off the govt was when I was retraining, they paid my rent and tuition.

No income so we live by the, can we afford it, can we do it ourselves. You find out quick enough about all the ‘stuff’ a person can live without and what is beneficial to chase. Growing a garden, planting trees and berries, digging in the soil, being outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Playing with the grands…

Talking with my neighbor today. He has an old 57 step side PU and a Vaga both with some serious engine hardware and accessories. He has a newer diesel PU and his wife has a newer Nissan, four vehicles worth close to 150K for two people. Spends money like water and complained that if even his wife losses her ‘job’ that they’ll lose their house and most what they have. Anxiety is a little high. His wife is a shrink and he has a surrey fire fighters pension, very good money coming in. I’ll keep my lifestyle over his, any day. He’s scared its all going to vanish, and it will… Mine… can’t lose what you don’t have, so not worried…

There is no slow return to equilibrium. There will be complete destruction and then a slow rebuilding over the course of multiple decades up to a century.

I graduated high school at the beginning of the oil embargo- work was almost impossible to find. When you did find a job you had better show up everyday and work hard!

I graduated in ’75. Shared a 2br 2bath apartment with a room mate on $1.80 per hr. It was pretty tight but I managed. Inflation was going up way faster than wages were. Got laid off in ’78 and it was really tough to find another job. Took me 4 months and it was scary.

Clearly he’s not paying enough for them. Job market is so nuts people can jump ship and fall upwards everywhere. It’s “no one wants to work… for what I’m paying”. And anyone who thinks things are normal on the other side of the fence should try applying to any kind of vaguely white collar job.

Face it you can’t pay enough for people with a work ethic !
You and your competition are using illegals .
If minimum wage kept up with inflation it would be $85 per hour plus benefits
