Not the only time just the thought of having a gun backed a pack of them down without seeing it, and it is a good thing all the way around they didn’t think I was bluffing. Not that there weren’t times that seeing a gun didn’t work too. And there were times in that same place we had a commercial property that a gun didn’t do any good, as they came back and killed the guy, though that was the exception and not the rule.

Yeah, I suspect things are a bit different these days. Wasn’t as bad as some places at the time either, like the projects, etc. Mainly the hardcores drifted in from worse place (didn’t help there was some folks dealing pot and such either). I have not normally carried but I believe I will start, right now. My state has a “Stand Your Ground ” law. Simply put, if a law-abiding citizen is going about his business and is subjected to a serious criminal attack (feels he was in danger of death or serious injury), he is pretty much bullet-proof legally if attacked by such scum. In those rare cases where some Soros-type asshole prosecutor has tried to evade the intent of the law by bringing charges, they have been slapped down hard.
