On October 30, 1961, at the peak of the Cold War, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev sent an unmistakable warning to the West by testing the most powerful weapon mankind had ever seen. The Tsar Bomba was 2000 times more powerful than the American bomb dropped on Nagasaki and 10 times the total firepower used in the entire Second World War.
Can the course of the war in Ukraine today force Russia to resort to its deadly nuclear weapons? Will Putin use the world’s largest nuclear bomb if tensions with the West over Ukraine escalate?

Nobody has a Tsar Bomba
They did (past tense). They tested it. It was scary. That does not mean that they have one now waiting to be used. If one were to be used, it would, even today, require an air-drop from a bomber.
Why bother when there are MIRVed warheads on ICBMs, nuclear tsunami creating torpedoes, and hypersonic missiles? What’s the point of fretting over a Tsar Bomba that would never be used even if there was a nuclear exchange?
I agree that talk of nukes is most likely just that … talk. Meant to keep people afraid of “Tsar Bomba”.
But there’s always a non-zero chance that folks in D.C. are stupid and crazy enough to take things there, and Putin would respond in kind.

A quick check of prevailing wind direction says…probably not.
Like everywhere on earth, winds change direction but, in general, they seem to follow a pattern.
Setting off ANY nuclear device to the west of you own population would just about assure them of (eventually) being downwind of the fallout.

The Tsar Bomba was a one-time propaganda stunt. Current nuclear doctrine prefers using several smaller weapons over a wide area. You are still as dead as you would be after a 50MT blast, but still.
