I am enlisting the help of the Facebook community. It was brought to my attention today that an esteemed, respected physician for the last almost 40 years at Bryn Mawr Hospital (where I worked for 31 years in labor and delivery) has been placed on a week’s suspension for praying with his patients in the delivery room and Operating Room at their request and not asking “permission “ to do so from the employees in the room. My years working along Dr. Castelli have filled me with complete respect and admiration for this man.
I can’t even begin to estimate how many children he has brought into this world and how many lives he has saved. I believe him to be one of the best OB/Gyn doctors at Main Line Heath. As far as the praying – Dr Castelli was asked to say a prayer most times by his patient, and in the event he initiated the prayer he always asked the patient if he could say a quick (maybe a minute ) prayer before the procedure asking to bless his hands and for the health of the woman. Everyone found it comforting, and humbling.
To say that ANYONE would have an issue with this or get insulted is in my opinion a lost soul- and I will pray for you. Our country is founded on Christian principles and the right to pray in the workplace is protected under Title IV of the civil rights act of 1964. Let me be clear – at no time was anyone (including employees) forced to pray! This is another example of where our society is headed – and it’s not good. Scary actually.
Those who get “insulted “ need to simply focus on themselves and figure out why that is so, and realize the world doesn’t revolve around you. If you don’t like the prayer, cover your ears or exit the room for 30 seconds. Dr. Castelli delivered my youngest daughter, my sister’s triplets, has taken care of my mother for many years, now is caring for my daughter who is due in May, in addition to numerous nurses.
I am going to pray for him and his family – but also hope his patients aren’t afraid to speak up and show their support. Whether it be a letter to Bryn Mawr Administration, protests outside, contact the news, and of course all your prayers. I cannot be the only one who finds this repulsive.
Shame on Bryn Mawr Hospital.

I have a doc/mechanic/plumber ect. that wants to say a prayer before engaging in their job am all for it if they believe that it will help them in their efforts!

A solution would be to have any offended by prayer to wait outside the room. From my perspective, would want non-offended replacements for all, if any, of those outside.
In the Progressive utopia, all the professional positions will be occupied by people who meet the woke standards, but not necessarily to competence requirements. For example, here in Oregon, lawyers are no longer required to pass the bar to practice law.
So, a word of advice: if you go into a doctor, attorney, or engineer’s office and they have purple hair, you should leave. In fact, you should leave the state.

The primary principle that is unique to Christianity is belief in Jesus as the Son of God and the one true savior. Other Christian principles such as do not commit murder, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not covet and honoring your Mother and Father can be shared by many religions.
