The Antiwar Movement Roars Back to Life

Guest Post by Ron Paul

On February 19th, the National Mall in Washington, DC saw its largest antiwar rally in 20 years. The speakers list included four former US presidential candidates and a broad and diverse collection of antiwar activists from beyond the left and right.

The aptly-named “Rage Against War Machine” rally drew thousands of attendees, however many pro-war advocates eagerly pointed out that it did not match in size some of the larger rallies against the Iraq war 20 years ago.

To that I say, “who cares”? The US mainstream media engages in war propaganda non-stop, with the only exception being Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. So I think it’s a miracle anyone had the courage to travel to the heart of the war machine in Washington, DC to make their voices heard! We don’t need a majority to fight back – an educated and dedicated minority will do quite nicely. And we certainly had that at the rally!

As I sat in the green room waiting to speak, I had the opportunity to visit with former Democrat presidential candidates Tulsi Gabbard and Dennis Kucinich and former Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Political commentators Jimmy Dore and Chris Hedges were there, along with many leading and well—spoken libertarians. Everyone backstage carried the same message: we must put aside our differences to build a new, broad coalition against this war!

I believe the antiwar movement is starting to catch fire both at home and overseas. The DC rally was followed by much larger antiwar rallies in Paris, Berlin, London, and elsewhere.

Several recent polls, including by Pew and AP, show that American support for Ukraine is evaporating. Even in the EU, new polls show a public turning sharply against their governments’ support for the war. According to a recent Ipsos poll, less than half of Germans support continuing to send weapons to Ukraine. Change is in the air.

The DC rally took place in the backdrop of Seymour Hersh’s explosive investigative report demonstrating how the US government blew up the Nord Stream pipelines and the mainstream media’s desperate attempt to cover it up. The truth is coming out, and it’s even uglier than we imagined.

The US mainstream media is clearly getting nervous that its control over the narrative is also evaporating. How do we know they’re nervous? They have turned up their lies and slanders of antiwar rallies and voices.

Rachel Maddow, who fed America a steady stream of “Russiagate” lies for the past six or so years, let loose with a slanderous blue streak about the Rage Against the War Machine rally. Literally everything Maddow said in her post-rally rant was objectively false and her mischaracterization of rally participants as “weird” was devious. She falsely claimed that the rally was full of “white supremacists,” “Proud Boys,” and “anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists.”

No one who was at the rally would have had any idea what she was talking about. But her job was not to describe the rally, it was to defame it. What does Maddow’s hysterics about the rally show? They are nervous. It shows that the mainstream media, despite having near-total power, is afraid. They are afraid they are losing the narrative. Good. It’s about time. Let’s hope that more Americans begin to rage! Rage against the war machine!

I did not attend but heard all of the speeches. All of the speeches were wonderful and inspiring. Jimmy Dore was funny as hell and spot on. Many in the crowd afterward were cheering him to run for president. Tulsi recited the event in Hawaii of learning missiles were headed their way and told it was no drill (Pearl Harbor redux?). Some poor father had kids at opposite ends of the island. He was in a Sophie’s Choice moment as to which child to be with. It was deep. Dr. Paul said his usual speech on militarism and I really appreciated the joy he took to the event. He was in his glory. Truly a special man.

Talk may be cheap but inaction is worthless. Dr. Paul’s ’empty words’ have created a massive libertarian movement.

Ron Paul is a hero, and talk is the beginning of things, for sure.

I was merely responding to the post above about empty words followed by inaction. Ron has definitely shouted over falsely-framed arguments that favor the corrupt elite for over half a century. He’s awakened many and stirred more to material action.

There’s nothing all who wish to rule desire more, than for the masses to remain silent, dormant, passive, and . . . insouciant: complicit in their own subjection.

Assembling an event with brilliant speakers of completely opposite political views isn’t ‘action’? What ‘action’ do you suggest?

actions have been stated many times, just that followers are lacking. per the norm especially in the land of the free slaves.

Huge anti war rallies in France and Germany this weekend. The people in the EU seem to be much better informed about the reality of this war in comparison to the people in the US.
The Democrats here in the US will never, ever, admit they were wrong about the war, just as they cannot admit they were wrong about COVID. They are incapable of admitting they are wrong, regardless of how much proof is provided to educate them.

For Americans it is more abstract in that all it means is wasted billions from a government that wastes trillions. They are not aware that the war is hitting them directly in the pocket book or “supply chain”.

I would guess that the American popular opinion would break down roughly as follows:

25%: Let’s give Ukraine everything we have so they can beat the Russkies and even take back Crimea.
65%: Don’t care who wins – stop wasting our money on that shit.
10%: Hope Russia wins, delivering a big slap to the neocons.

The problem is that the 65% position is not strongly felt.

And as expected, the anti-war “left” is nowhere to be found…now that a democrat is waging the wars.

God bless Ron Paul.
For those thinking this is just words without action, I would guess that the early protests againts the war (conflict my ass) in Vietnam were similar, and over time became more effective in changing the outcome.
I wasn’t there, but fully support this protest. We are on the wrong fucking side of this mess. Fuck Ukraine!

You gotta love those protestors. Not kidding. God bless ’em. They’re doing what they can … hey, it seems to have worked getting us out of Vietnam.

But, the world has changed drastically.

Back then politicians could be moved by the people’s protest. Back then there was something called ‘accountability’. Back then even politicians had some level of moral consciousness. Back then ignoring the people could have serious consequences.

Today? They (the-people-in-charge-of-shit) not a one of them gives a flying fuck about what you want. Worse, there is no accountability. So, they get away with it. Every time. So much for Muh Democracy.

Hence, it is my strong belief that these protests will accomplish nothing. (Hope I’m wrong.)

Stucky- One of the great things about being 70 is you are just too damn old to be conscripted into a war. Country 404 was conscripting dudes as old as 67 for this ridicules war, that’s the oldest that I have ever heard of in wartime.

Quickie war update ……..

=======================

“Morning reports (today) tell already about tactical, not just operational, envelopment of Bakhmut and trapping there by unreliable 404 sources of 2,500 VSU (primarily from Western Ukraine (in Russian)), by other, much more reliable sources (I know them personally), of about at least 3-4 times this number. Also, officially is reported that the number of bodies of VSU littering the battlefields around Bakhmut is simply appalling and Wagner Group formed special teams for removing those corpses in order to prevent further decomposition and smell with the risk of infections. ”

=======================

Bakhmut is going down, in days, perhaps hours. Enormous defeat for the Ukie nazis. Wonder how the Zelenski dick suckers are gonna spin this?

Gee Mr Paul, you don’t suppose they can
run another peace movement blackwash
like the completely scripted and staged
Manson murders, where everyone
involved was reasonable cause for
doubting the veracity of the entire story:
1. A horror film director: Roman Polanski
2. A horror film actress: Sharon Tate
3. Military oversight: Col. Paul Tate US Army, Sharon’s daddy.
4. Charles Manson just look at all the blackwash on the Manson wiki page where they accidentally admit the Manson project was part privately funded by the Folgers estate.

[Actually the entire Manson and Laurel Canyon stories are closely intertwined)

I have heard, that some historians suggest, the Manson murders closed the door on the organic peace and love movement.

So if we look at who told us the story and who benefits?
The msm arm of the MIC told us.
The MIC benefitted from the destroyed peace movement.

____

So I ask, doesn’t it seem likely that there already exist any number of diversionary stories or tactics which can be, and are, regularly trotted out to contain anything organically cohesive from growing beyond control of the narrative?
You know, like stories of balloons? Accidents? Murders? Missing blond girls? Actor puts foot in mouth? Climate? Automotive Transmissions? Squirrels?

Aren’t these the kinds of the things bajillion dollar think tanks ponder?
