The baby-boomer generation were perhaps the most privileged generation that the US has ever spawned.
Their fathers returned from World War II, eager to get married, buy a house and start a family. The economy was booming, as, during the early years of the war, the US wisely stayed out, but provided tanks, helmets and even toothbrushes to those who were directly involved in the fray.
What’s more, they didn’t accept pound notes or francs; they accepted only gold. So, at the end of the war, when the manufacturing cities of Europe had been destroyed by bombs, the male populations decimated and the governments broke, the US was on a roll. They had most of the world’s gold and had first-rate manufacturing facilities that only had to switch from making jeeps and rifles to making cars and televisions.
That wave of wealth allowed the young married couples to spoil their children with whatever they wanted.
The boomer generation reached their teens in the 1960s, and having grown accustomed to receiving whatever they wanted in life, they were young adults and wanted to party. The phrase, “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll” was coined and it was an apt one. Young Americans opted for plenty of all three.
But of course, somewhere in their twenties, most boomers got married themselves and settled into a new life in which they took on professions and sought wealth. Many became bankers, lawyers, trust officers and politicians.
But, although they were now adults, they were not always responsible adults. There was a new objective – money – and they wanted lots of it. The party was to continue, but on a much more extravagant scale.
And again, they were in luck, since back in 1944, the US had strong-armed Europe into accepting the Bretton Woods agreement, which made the US dollar the default currency.
Later, in the 1970s, the US was successful in making the dollar the petrodollar – the currency through which oil was traded. And in 1973, the SWIFT system was created, which, although centered in Brussels, was controlled primarily by the US.
If a national leader did not play ball with the US, he could be sanctioned. The US would threaten to cut him out of SWIFT, making international trade impossible for him.
And if a small country did not tax its people as the US did, it could also be threatened with the loss of SWIFT.
The US was rolling in dough, as the saying goes, but it wasn’t sufficient for the boomers. Through the creation of debt, they were able to make the party bigger and better. The boomers, who were now older and had become financiers, changed the US from the biggest creditor nation in the 1950s, to the biggest debtor nation a few decades later.
By the 1990s, the boomers had financed the party with a powerful trio of financial weapons: the default currency, the petrodollar and SWIFT.
But all parties must end.
Along the way, Europe had grown tired of being dictated to by its war ally and was fed up with being expected to support US sanctions against other countries, that were often their trading partners. Instead of the US being the helpful rich friend, it was becoming a liability. Further, Russia had recovered from its 1991 Soviet debacle and was very much on the rise – leaner, meaner, and ready to stand toe-to-toe with the US.
And China had awoken from its Maoist slumber and was charging ahead both productively and economically at a faster rate than the world had ever seen. By 2015, it had overtaken the US as the world’s foremost producer.
But this had zero impact on US bluster. Its leaders continued to act like the big boy on the block and, if anything, became more militarily aggressive and economically threatening.
Then the world at large began, slowly but deliberately, to prune the US domination.
A rift began to grow between the US and Saudi Arabia, an alliance that made the petrodollar possible. Soon, Iraq, Libya and other Middle Eastern countries began to accept other currencies and/or gold in payment for oil. This caused the US to invade them in the hope of creating puppet regimes that would stick to the US rules. But after decades of war in a host of Middle Eastern countries, with no end in sight, the US has not gained any petrodollar ground. It has, however, trashed several countries, made the US hated worldwide for its aggression and gotten itself into a level of debt that is now beyond repayment.
Still, the US controlled SWIFT, but in 2014, Russia began to develop its own payment system, SPFS, in response to Washington’s threats to cut Russia from the SWIFT system.
Then, in 2015, China introduced its own international payments system – CIPS – and began to offer it to Russia, India and others for trade. In 2019, the EU made a surprise move, announcing its own payment system, INSTEX, into which all of Europe was invited, but the US was not.
Only months later, when the US cut Iran from SWIFT, Russia jumped in and offered SPFS to them, so that they could trade throughout the world, if not with the US.
If it appears that the US has gone out on a limb and is now in the process of sawing off that limb, that would be an accurate perception.
Still, for the moment, the US retains the third leg of its economic strength. The dollar is still the default currency in the world and the US news media eagerly provide updates that confirm that the dollar is rising against the other major currencies in the world.
The decline of these currencies is due to the fact that the countries that produce them have also attended the party for decades and have also gotten heavily into debt. The ability to expand that debt is beginning to crumble, resulting in currency devaluations.
So, will the default dollar save the US, and allow the party to continue?
Well, no. In fact the dollar is in far greater trouble than the other major currencies, but it has a bit more lead time before it collapses. I often describe the dollar as being “the best-looking horse in the glue factory.” It will be the last to fall, but will most assuredly do so.
When this particular party ends, it will be one for the record books.
In its wake, it will leave a generation of now-aging Americans who have always been able to have their cake and eat it, too.
As a result, they’ll be unable to cope with the economic hangover that they’ll be facing.
This suggests that the recovery will take a very long time – a generation or more.
For those who plan long-term, the US will be a poor choice as regards progress and prosperity for a long time to come.

My Greatest Generation Parents suffered thru the Depression and fought in two wars, so they did not tolerate me growing up without the knowledge of Sacrifice, Loyalty, and Thrift.
They taught me to be self reliant and be morally upright… I paid for my own education.

Teaching one’s children to be self sufficient, instilling a good work ethic, and Church every Sunday is a good thing.

I am forced to agree and disagree with your analysis. I agree with many of your points – they do seem to typify part of the boom generation. However, there are many exceptions. But I disagree with what the boomers have allowed. I fought against all that stuff. I have worked my entire life. Everything I have I worked for. I am against covid mandates. I do not support barriers to competition. I am a free market person. I do not agree with the weird stuff they are doing to kids in schools. I do not agree with digital ID or passports. But it appears there are not enough people against this stuff.
And, now we face the test of the election fraud machine. That is scary. So far, as a nation, we have been unable to deal with it. If we are unable to fix it, it may well be the crippling blow that ends America as we know it. If we are no longer able to elect responsible people we have a really major problem on our hands.
I understand. I grew up around the laziest boomers, I’m jilted cause the boomers in my family are what I have described. I’ve been left the bag personally to hold my family up because of it. Up here in Canada boomers have a huge influence on supporting gov’t agendas. Not one would dare vote against Liberals and now any opportunity is long gone. I’ve had a lifetime of criticism and constant kick downs as the boomers laugh it up and do nothing. They embrace “Victimhood” the most. Meanwhile I’m left staining decks by myself one day after a stage 5 seperated shoulder for nice pictures for my Sisters wedding who I had to walk down the Isle. My father died young, and boomers all think it is their job to shit on me for doing the best I could. Most of my aunts and uncles nit pick, while I’m left caring for my elderly formerly sick mother, working a job, maintain the family home, cars, plants, landscaping, I inherited the whole catastrophe lol. Making Christmas, thanksgiving and other things and holidays happen (25 years+ and I was born in the 1980’s). Also doing those behind the scene things to keep things smooth, like busting out another thousand on someone else’s boat so that we (the family) could have a nice vacation. For years my “vacation ” time was spent in doctors offices to get my mom the best care. That has paid off as she is doing as well as ever. No hospital stays in almost a decade. Especially staying out during convid. Then when one of them (Boomers) die I’m one of few that show up. Where are all these great Boomers, they couldn’t even be bothered to attend their own family members deaths? “Oh there might be Convid….” Like I said I’m super jilted.

Well brother canikistanner, I’m considered a boomer, worked my entire life, worked countless hours and days for others helping them out of tough spots, driving two hours to go mow a lawn for a friend who lost their daughter to a car accident, kept my wifes parents at home until 99. Been there done that, like you have.
I don’t have a retirement and get nothing from the govt either. My pensions were robbed, literally, the govt says I didn’t work enough so they give me $187/ month and I’m supposed to be grateful. They get around all the productive years of extortion by only considering the last five years of income to determine your ccp.
Personally I give no quarter or respect to these asswipes and all to often stand in their faces growling out my barely held in check distain for them. Here in british commuista, like ontario, we are full communist and have been for a long time. A once have province with resources out the ying yang have become a near welfare province while the communist provincial and fed govts rape us. And dumb fucs keep electing them.
So yep, I no longer cater to woke family, I don’t go to their funerals, or relatives weddings if they are ‘woke’. I have a brother that told me to get off his property, years ago, and I have, gladly. This has been my entire life. My wifes parental units are the most selfish people I know. Would steal the crumbs from a church mouse, never helped us with much of anything and was always reminded of how generous they were if they gave the kids a few bucks at birthdays.
14 years we’ve been taking care of her parents. They are the typical dumb asses that whatever the govt said, they’d do. Got the clot shots, several. Watched her pappy going from being able to hold a conversation to not knowing how to use a toilet, in six months. Never liked her dad especially, has was a class A asshole. Who cleaned the shit up, literally, and showered him off when ‘accidents’ happened?? I did. Respect to him, no, to my wife yes. I get your sarcasm, but the story was a broad brush, it certainly didn’t represent at least half the boomers. My parents didn’t become wealthy. My dad did directly go through the Depression, my mom was born during the recovery. My dad didn’t fight during WW2, but instead was in the Navy afterwards while we were watching Japan’s recovery from it. He was in during the Korean War.
Up here in Canada, I’d day it is about 80% of the pop. And I was speaking purely of those born 1946 or later. Not the silent generation before.
Up here, I personally find it sad when people put on the poppies to show we remember, then leave their Silent Generation Parents to rot in long term care. I’ve seen pretty awful things happen. The Covid War is another War they fought. This time a War brought to them by a poppy wearing society of Boomers and Gen xr’s who did them wrong. I’m told to have respect cause I’ll be old….. Well I’ve seen a lot of Boomers banish their elders to torturous and excruciating treatment in their old age. Boomers who seemed not to care at all about their parents, then fight like crazy over “Whats Mine”. So my word the the Wise Boomers is. Your Children watch how you Boomers treated your parents. Respectful isn’t a word that comes to mind. Locked down, starved, ignored, ridiculed, cruel and unusual punishment do. Hopefully you did right your Parents Empty. Japan, Korea and all wars are not fun times.

Things I do to make the world better.
I pick up garbage thrown around by litterbugs in my neighborhoods.
I shoveled a Older gentleman’s driveway for a season after his heart surgery.
A buddy and I literally saved three little children from being run over by an out of control car one day.
I supported my family by bringing home the bacon then doing all the things that go along with the catastrophe.
My record work week is 103 hours in six days.
I studied healthcare about 10 years ago to save my mother. No surgeries since.
I mentored and tutored students on the side. High school and University.
I go out of my way to help others all the time.
I grow pumpkins to donate to my sisters class for the disabled, for Halloween.
During Christmas one year in the hospital, I decided to make little stockings to hand out to all the patients on my own dime. Stockings filled with a couple of lottery tickets kinder eggs, fruit to go, seasame snaps etc. The entire ward. It made it nice since Christmas at the hospital is anything but. One fellow asked could he have two as he was unable to get his kids anything for Christmas due to him being stricken for weeks. He was so happy, I’ll never forget it. I ended up with the nickname Santa from the nurses.
These are just a small sample.
I’m not perfect, but I can honestly say I’ve done the best I could in the face of many people trying to bring me down for being younger.

Ya I’ll take opportunity to apologize for telling QSLV to shove off, my bad. I really try to do my best. And as you can see I get a lot of criticism for it. I don’t get why Boomers just think I’m whining. I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy… and that not all of us younger generation had it easy with cheesy poofs.

You should see what happens when I prove the Doctors wrong and find the testing for a simple Bladder infection wrong. 3 Blood tests and 5 urine samples. All negative. Then when we scope it, Holy Shit, there’s the infection. Stuff like that is all day everyday. I’m supposed to believe Older Dr’s and their tests. I labelled as a belligerent, disrespectful, and too young to understand. Then, “Well you just got lucky” BS. I watch a lot of people suffer because of Boomers, “Well I’m older and must know better all the time attitude.”
1) I thought you were retired, but seems you test urine samples all day. Which is it? Urine sampler, or wealthy retired world famous artist that is doing something or other related to space?

Suggestion? Yes. As a military veteran, I left the US in 2012 after the Ayatollah Obummer was reanointed and haven’t looked back. I’m enjoying a very low cost of living and a low inflation rate. For example: gasoline is $2.40/gal…….diesel is $1.75/gal…… food averages $238 monthly for the two of us……this year so far we have spent $11.00 on transportation……the yearly inflation rate was 3.79%……our fully furnished apartment is $550 monthly which includes all utilities and internet. We live in a Mexican Barrio while building our retirement home on a secluded beach. In our ghetto, one parent still provides for a family and nobody has a fence, much less razor wire. Some don’t even have doors or windows yet.
Preschool children play in the dirt streets, unwatched, often until midnight and nobody locks their cars. Kind of like my youth in the USA where, now, there aren’t any neighborhoods that are as safe as this one or where your pre-school children wouldn’t be taken by CPS if you let play in the street unsupervised during the day.
In this poverty-stricken, crime-driven neighborhood (sarc) I never hear parents arguing or children being whipped for back-talking their parents instead of doing what they were told to do. Nobody except the chickens would leave this place to live in Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago… or any other liberal hellhole.
The biggest differences between Boomers and every generational cohort that followed is we learned there were certain consequences for ‘bad’ behavior and yet shielded our children from them. It’s selfish and lazy to spare the rod when children test acceptable limits. That generational failure was spawned by the Feminist-inspired schisms that installed CPS’s razor wire around our children, ending paddling in schools.

We allowed the government to organize a massive censorship machine with the private sector to censor us. Everywhere you look America is a disaster. It used to be shocking stuff did not happen very often. Then it was every month. Then it was every week. Now it is basically every day. I’m 70 years old…a Black Pilled Boomer whose coming of age in the late 1960’s was both confusing and exciting at the same time, in those days I was a kid with permission to rebel. Today, having time to reflect on this life, I find it isn’t comforting to realize how we as a generation were manipulated and the unintended consequences of our failure to understand the future. Hating Boomers is about as productive as hating a race of people for their culture or beliefs, all generations are born into environments where they have to learn to survive.

I’m done pointing fingers, for me, the time to roll up sleeves is better served. Continued blame and arguing its taking time away from whats more important. And, to me thats getting ready for the shit storm and getting my grands thru it in good condition. Taking the grand to the range on the next visit, hes eight.

In this particular issue, imo, there are valid points on both sides and its not generational, its human nature. Its been happening for millennia.

25% of the Boomers, those were the ones on the evening news being shown as dirty, disgusting, worthless deadbeat hippies, brought about 100% of today’s problems. They did exactly what they promised to do. Destroy the world to make it “better” according to their socialist agenda. They needed most of their lives to do it, but they did it. Now the country is a complete wreck and they are proud of the fact that they did it.
As for the other 75% of the Boomers, they wrung their hands, whining about how they didn’t know what to do to stop the former hippies.
The biggest mistake was made by the Greatest Generation. They did nothing to eliminate the hippies who became today’s socialist elites. Deportation of the hippies to the Soviet Union or Mao’s China would have been a good start. Work in the gulags or used in place of horses and oxen in the rice fields. That way they would have been able to see real socialism up close and personal.
I am glad I grew up in a rural community where we treated hippies the same way as other vermin out to destroy the crops. Of course, the hippies didn’t like being hunted and trapped. After a few weeks there were no more hippies to hunt or trap.

The Boomers’ American Dream is borrowed. Everything is borrowed; houses, businesses, every piece of wealth. America is in debt in both private and public sectors. All of it is leveraged. The money does not exist; it’s all imaginary. The silent/greatest also borrowed for their houses but they did not borrow for every freaking luxury. The boomers (generational trend, not every single person) allowed despicable usury by enslaving the world with debt; they embodied all 7 deadly sins – envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth and wrath. The only one sin they can argue against is sloth. They did work hard, but only for greed and luxuries; they did not work for the things that really matter like family and building a stronger community! Their hard work, long hours, etc. just served for consumerism and self aggrandizement, all that sacrificed a family life and raising children when they nearly all got divorced or aborted their children. Gen-X is a smaller generation bc of all those abortions. When Boomers did have children it was maybe one latchkey kid of a single, divorced mom. The boomers will go down in history for destroying our Western European/American society. Gen-X and Millenialls are no saints but they just continued the boomer BS system bc we are stuck in this system and are fearful of letting it all crash. But not for long… we will all experience the debt based system cracking and there will likely be a dark age until some future generation rises from the ashes.
In 2 000 years USA history will be presented as Egypt’s history was to us.
