” . . . every tyranny must necessarily be grounded upon general popular acceptance. In short, the bulk of the people themselves, for whatever reason, acquiesce in their own subjection. If this were not the case, no tyranny, indeed no governmental rule, could long endure. Hence, a government does not have to be popularly elected to enjoy general public support; for general public support is in the very nature of all governments that endure, including the most oppressive of tyrannies. The tyrant is but one person, and could scarcely command the obedience of another person, much less of an entire country, if most of the subjects did not grant their obedience by their own consent.”

Overthrowing the State

.
“I should like merely to understand how it happens that so many men, so many villages, so many cities, so many nations, sometimes suffer under a single tyrant who has no other power than the power they give him; who is able to harm them only to the extent to which they have the willingness to bear with him; who could do them absolutely no injury unless they preferred to put up with him rather than contradict him. Surely a striking situation! Yet it is so common that one must grieve the more and wonder the less at the spectacle of a million men serving in wretchedness, their necks under the yoke, not constrained by a greater multitude than they… ”
~ Etienne de La Boétie

(Rothbard’s review of La Boétie continues:)
Another method of inducing consent is purely ideological: duping the masses into believing that the tyrannical ruler is wise, just, and benevolent. Thus, La Boétie points out, the Roman emperors assumed the ancient title of Tribune of the People, because the concept had gained favor among the public as representing a guardian of their liberties. Hence the assumption of despotism under the cloak of the old liberal form.
_
In modern times, La Boétie adds, rulers present a more sophisticated version of such propaganda, for “they never undertake an unjust policy, even one of some importance, without prefacing it with some pretty speech concerning public welfare and common good.”

Resistance is NOT futile; it is ESSENTIAL.

“It was one of the greatest errors in evaluating dictatorship to say that the dictator forces himself on society against its own will. In reality, every dictator in history was nothing but the accentuation of already existing state ideas which he had only to exaggerate in order to gain power”
― Wilhelm Reich

How so? Genuinely curious. People in my circle got the wokey pokey to keep working. That seems like slave like behavior. Is it different in your circle?

Slavery has only affected SOME of humanity? Wow. You need to read real history. And as Aldous Huxley has described, the best way to rule is to have the slaves not even mind or recognize their chains.

“Blacks were not enslaved because they were black but because they were available. Slavery has existed in the world for thousands of years. Whites enslaved other whites in Europe for centuries before the first black was brought to the Western hemisphere. Asians enslaved Europeans. Asians enslaved other Asians. Africans enslaved other Africans, and indeed even today in North Africa, blacks continue to enslave blacks” ~ Thomas Sowell

“To many people today, slavery means white people holding black people in bondage. The vast millions of people around the world who were neither white nor black, but who were either slaves or enslavers for centuries, fade out of this vision of slavery, as if they had never existed, even though they may well have outnumbered both blacks and whites. It has been estimated that there were more slaves in India than in the entire Western Hemisphere. China during the era of slavery has been described as “one of the largest and most comprehensive markets for the exchange of human beings in the world.” Slaves were a majority of the population in some of the cities in Southeast Asia. At some period or other in history, as John Stuart Mill pointed out, “almost every people, now civilized, have consisted, in majority, of slaves.” ― Thomas Sowell

A slave is anyone who may not say no, leave, sell their kidney or rent out their ass, or keep the fruit of their labor. ALL of the fruit.

Ergo, WE ARE ALL SLAVES.

ABOLISH THE STATE.

Slave:
One who is owned as the property of someone else, especially in involuntary servitude.
One who is subservient to or controlled by another.
One who is subject to or controlled by a specified influence.

That sort of covers the gamut I think. We are born slaves in some sense. We are slaves to the struggle of survival in a punishing and unrelenting world. That does not mean we can’t find or create internal peace. Seems that internal peace is the only freedom we will ever have. Some of us never achieve that freedom and go through life in constant toil and torment.

the best way to rule is to have the slaves not even mind or recognize their chains.

That’s how they do it. We have to say, “No more.” and more importantly act on it. Easier said than done.

This is all I need. Life doesn’t owe us anything….
-“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference, living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; taking this world as it is and not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen. “-

You work 30 years to pay off a house mortgage that is only 3 to 4 year’s income.
You pay 35% of your income in taxes that pay for things you sincerely do not want.
Your Blue Congressman is financed by the same people who financed the Red Senator.
The Cities make a big deal of counting dead drug dealers but not dead drug addicts.

It doesn’t have to be that way, for some it’s simply a matter of conditioning. A focus on achievement can be an re ward all of it’s own. Balance is the key to a happy life. When we lose our balance it should be priority one to restore it at all material costs.

Keeping up with the Jones.
If people would stop trying to impress total strangers and others that in reality mean nothing to them and concentrate on what they can live without rather than what they think they need people would be happier.

Then I trade it in throw what was left on the on top of another truck in another 6 years and people look at me and think wow he is rich. It is all an illusion. Keeping up the phony Joneses. Oh well…

I saw the chains many years ago. After working in a dirty factory for seven years I woke up. Went to college full time while working full time. My life has been blessed since the day I walked out of there. Unfortunately, many are trapped. One day they’ll be on their deathbed and realize their life was wasted. Regardless, I realize we are all nothing but tax slaves.

It all makes sense once you know that Greg Abbott’s grandfather founded Abbott Laboratories, pushing morphine and codeine originally: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbott_Laboratories

A typical Child of the Families who would be able to have his servants wipe his ass and actually enjoy it, but for a dastardly tree sneaking up on him.

King Solomon said the exact same thing in Ecclesiastes. It’s all pointless, UNLESS (and this is important) you remember who God is, and put Him at the center of your life. Go read the book and focus on chapter 12. It takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on how fast you read, and it can change your life.

Sorry, I have a different takeaway from The Preacher. One that is repeated throughout after noting all of the vanity of life. Namely 5:18

Here is what I have seen: It is good and fitting for one to eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for it is his heritage.

enjoy the good of all his labor
it is his heritage
which God gives him

Square it with excessive taxation (including by inflation).
Your heritage has been and continues to be stolen.
God gave it to you, you gave it to government.

Something is amiss when, by force and decree of tyrants, you are unable to enjoy the good of all your labor.
