Yo, this is a pretty wild video out of Charleston County, South Carolina, and it tells you a whole lot about what police officers are faced with on a daily basis.
This may seem like your everyday traffic stop — the car being pulled over for swerving — however, the man in the passenger seat is a convicted felon, and officers spoke with him for about five minutes before asking him to get out of the vehicle.
Here’s what happened when they did that (I’m going to warn you that while you don’t see blood, the perp gets smoked in this video).

Man, those two officers are lucky to be alive.
The speed at which they were both able to take cover is just beyond comprehension.
That training sure paid off.
The incident happened in Ravenel shortly before 4:00 p.m. when Deputies Evan Cubbage and Alexander Hodge conducted a traffic stop on a black Crown Victoria…
The suspect, identified as James Pierce (28) of Walterboro, was hit and died at the scene.
Deputy Cubbage was also shot three times.
Always sad to see a life go like that, even if it is a bad guy.

Notice how when asked if there were any firearms in the vehicle the answer was “no.”
Seriously, the police deal with a lot more than we think they do.
So next time you see a protest break out over a man who’s been shot by police, I want you to ask some serious questions about how it happened and what led up to the shooting.
Because it’s not always as simple as what they tell you on CNN.

Yep, the only reason they would screw with the passenger is if they were looking for trouble. i.e. a fishing stop. Otherwise their business should have been with the driver only. Unless they had some probably cause that the passenger was commiting a crime.
Cops typically approach on the passenger side when there is heavy traffic on the driver’s side.
And, in this case, it is a strong bet they had an idea they’d need to be in a position to control the individual in the passenger seat.
If you need to draw, you don’t want the land whale in the way.
Mostly what I see in heavy traffic. In Dallas-Fort Worth it would be suicidal to approach on the drivers side. Could be more to the story.

Oh yeah. There are not many places in Texas I’ve not driven near at least. Hwy 87 through Texline is a popular route for Texans visiting Colorado. Last I traveled that route was in 2001 headed for Oregon. Better be paying attention is all I can say. I’ve never been stopped going or coming back on 87. Best to be paying attention to the speed limit signs and the sudden drop in speed limits. People coming back from Colorado that are inclined to bring back the legal weed from Colorado…don’t get stopped coming back. Every law enforcement vehicle I saw had the sniffing German Shepherd onboard. Stopping in Dalhart for a stretch and fresh coffee I certainly felt the eyes as if watching my every move.

You couldn’t look sideways at a LEO in SoCal for the next 6 months … and, in fact, I witnessed a guy being stopped and questioned on a sidewalk in downtown San Diego soon afterward. He reached inside his clothing and the officer brought his night stick down across the guy’s arm — you could her the bones being broken at 50′ …
