My neighbor is getting tossed because he can’t pay his rent. I learned of this from my other neighbor; a prostitute that was working hard to lure me into her parlor. A different neighbor just got arrested for meth.

One does the best they can with what they have.

Yep. If you can’t leave then prep where you are. An apartment would be tough to secure tho but its still better than no shelter at all. Keep enough preps on hand to last serval weeks to a month and a ‘wheels up bag’ like you said.
In an apartment the doors aren’t the weak points. The walls are. Someone wants your ‘stuff’ they’ll come thru the walls when they figure out the door isn’t worth the effort. Be nice to have a semiauto shotgun at that point.
Not too hard to secure, if you’re in the upper level of a high rise, because they are made with cement block walls, and have all their windows facing out,
Some plywood to cover up the inside of your door, and 4x4s to brace it should be enough to.secure your apartment from the odd random looter, and as long as you’ve been quiet and stealthy about your prepping, so as to not invite a large group to single you out.
Definitely lots of variables concerning apartments and where you are in one. Upper floors in a cement apartment are going to be more secure, but you too, will have to climb those stairs at some point. The key is like you say, stealth and quietly building your stores preferably just out of reach or interest from marauders. Eventually you will have to venture out into the streets in a city, which again means added risk for everything you do, even getting a few more groceries.
Apartments seem like death traps to me if the infrastructure fails.
No water, no lifts, no sewage, no electricity…..
The higher the density, the higher the risk. Get rural.
Buy a water bed. Good for a while. But ideally cities are no place to weather out storms, they’ll all burn down. But if you are stuck in a city, or apartment, the idea is to prep where you are the best you can. Taking into consideration whats defensible and whats not. How long can you reasonably stay put before having to leave. All important things to ponder.
I agree, you’d probably have to be able to wait it out for at least 90 days, after that most people would be either departed, or the dearly departed.
The problem is that who’s ever left, they would be the baddest of the bad asses, and some.would probably eat you for lunch, literally.
So if you were to step out, you better be stealthy, or get out of Dodge.
Best to wait as long as possible to bug out to allow a thinning of. The herd before bugging out.
And not all preps have to be in the apartment. Bugout caches are your friend. 🙂
I would argue that if someone, someone who knew and practiced OpSec, and who was a prepper and lived in the upper floor of a high rise, that they would be better off than someone in a suburban culdesac.
If you were to slowly and quietly stock up on supplies, and you are prepared to secure your front door, and especially if you have a balcony you’re going to be better off.
Especially if the power went out and wannabe interlopers would have to climb up numerous flights of stairs, for the remote possibility of finding goodies, as opposed going door to door in some suburban neighborhood
Fort up, ignore any interlopers, and wait it out for a few months, sort of like the girl and her guardian, in the first episode of Station 11.
