‘The Most Insane Thing Ever’ – Man Finds Huge Hoard Of Civil War Gold On Kentucky Farm

Via ZeroHedge

A Kentucky man has unearthed an astounding cache of Civil War-era gold coins from a cornfield on his farm. Among the hundreds are a type of coin that has sold at auction for more than $100,000 — and there are about eighteen of them.

While the extraordinarily lucky man’s identity and the location of his property are still under wraps, his find has been certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), which describes itself as “the world’s largest and most trusted third-party grading service for coins, tokens and medals.” The treasure heap has become an instant numismatic legend, christened as “The Great Kentucky Hoard.”

The “Kentucky Hoard” lay buried in this soil for for some 150 years (GovMint.com – YouTube)

“The importance of this discovery cannot be overstated, as the stunning number of over 700 gold dollars represents a virtual time capsule of Civil War-era coinage, including coins from the elusive Dahlonega Mint,” says rare coin dealer Jeff Garrett, who was tapped to study the coins…

“Finding one mint condition 1863 Double Eagle would be an important numismatic event. Finding nearly a roll of superb examples is hard to comprehend.”

In a very short video posted to GovMint.com‘s YouTube channel, a breathless man can be heard marveling at the wealth of real money that had been trapped in the soil for a century and a half, saying, “This is the most insane thing ever. These are all $1 gold coins, $20 gold coins, $10 gold coins and, look, I’m still digging them out.”

The hoard “includes a group of finest-known 1863 Double Eagles and hundreds of US Gold Dollars dated 1850 to 1862, as well as a small number of silver coins. Several interesting varieties and errors were also discovered,” says NGC in their detailed description of the hoard.

The coins after cleaning returned them to their original, mid-1800s glory (GovMint.com)

Coins from the hoard are being prepared for sale, with GovMint.com tapped as the middleman. Here’s how the firm summarizes the hoard at a dedicated web page promoting the offering:

This Hoard consists of U.S. Gold Dollars in Type I, Type II and Type III with the date range of 1854-1862. The Gold Dollars make up 95% of this hoard. Also found are about twenty $10 Liberty’s with a date range of 1840-1862, and eight $20 Libertys dated between 1857 and 1862. But—likely the most amazing discovery in this hoard is about eighteen 1863-P $20 Gold Liberty coins, one of the rarest dates in the $20 Liberty series! This is a coin that often commands a six-figure price.

This should be good for metal detector sales.

I agree. But maybe this is just the bit he revealed?

Others with claims, valid or not, could come out of the woodwork and he could lose a portion in the courts. But a portion of a small portion would be better than all of it.

But I would have said nothing.

This is why the Pennsylvania Hoard never made the news some years ago… I had a very hard time explaining where those pristine beer cans from 1946 came from, and I found out some people will spend thousands of dollars on the right beer can…

I also found out about the massive conspiracy to replace decent american beer with ice-brewed beer flavored water. No wonder things are so screwed up.

As a Statutory Citizen of the Fictional “United States, The IRS has every Right to take or/and tax the man.
He will be taxed on the new fictional value and not the value of the coins before burial.

I did a search and saw that he did post a reply to Stucky.

Caught In A Minefield

The reply you got from the anon below is why I will no longer engage in a chat with them. There is one of them that is a “good guy” who is intelligent and respectful. Too many others are iceholes.

No, not the most insane thing ever. One of the most insane things is a person who couldn’t get a crowd of 25 people to a rally leading up to the 2020 presidential election and who can’t string a full sentence together, walk up a flight of steps without falling most of the way and shakes hands with ghosts, calls his wife-his sister, spent virtually every day in his basement with his face Pampers, wears Depends® got 81 million votes; now that’s some major league insanity.

Even more insane, the legislatures, the courts, and the US military did NOTHING when his handlers stole the election. Admit it or not, the fact is we are currently living under an occupation government.

I’m in agreement with the other comments. He should have kept his mouth shut. I would have had one tested for authenticity and assumed the rest were good. Maybe the guy is an idiot who has no idea what is coming.

I worked for NGC in 1988-89 as one of the people that encapsulated the coins, looks like the same system, ultra sonics to seal it in a plastic case after the coin and the label are placed. When I was there, the label slot was all different sizes depending on the coin size. I used to get pages of labels on a sheet of heavy paper and cut them to size with an exacto knife. $5/hr. I never graduated to putting the coin in the holder but I sealed them. I guess they moved from NJ to FL somewhere along the way. Smart.

What he is sure to get will be former owners or relatives of former owners of the property making all sorts of claims to prove it all really belongs to them, even some of his own relatives.

Slaves dug that gold. Slaves minted those coins. Slaves even dug that hole and shoveled dirt over the coins.

He should take all that gold to South Chicago and return it to it’s rightful owners.

(Of COURSE I am joking.)

Powdered sugar mixed with Borax. I put some out if I see one ant. Will see a few more for a few days, then none.

Article mentions a liquid mix, but I just dry mix and put it out. Works.

That is just fantastic.

I once saw a rainbows end on a lot with house I once owned. Naturally I started digging (irish/german),found nothing but then realized my young kid was the actual treasure onsite. A lot of stupid things I’d have bought had my treasure been anything else.

heh, yeah, i had saved and stacked for years and had a gold stack bigger than this kentucky find, and had it robbed from me 2 years ago as ‘asset forfeiture’ while i was finally moving from the city to out in the country. not a day goes by that i dont re-live that horrific couple of hours, tens of thousands spent on lawyers since then have produced no results and it’s certain that ill go broke far sooner than the government will trying to fight it in courts.
the only treasure i have now is my daughter.

I would like to think that this type of event happens way more often than we will ever know—that is that most people are smart enough to shut their outta control pie hole. But I really think that the stupid runs so deep that they will blab it to everyone —to their own detriment, sorrow, and taxation. So, my QOTD: A. Is this type of event fairly more common and rarely blabbed? Or. B is this type of event truly rare, but nearly always reported? Upvote for A, downvote for B.
