SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Steve C.

Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64 (Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Valery Gergiev)

From the Salle Pleyel in Paris, 2010

All six Tchaikovsky Symphonies with Valery Gergiev conducting the Mariinsky Orchestra.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64

0:00 Intro
1:05 I. Andante: Allegro con anima
17:48 II. Andante cantabile con alguna licenza
33:50 III. Valse. Allegro moderato
39:42 IV. Finale. Andante maestoso. Allegro vivace (Alla breve)

The Next Four Come To Us Thanks To ursel doran.

Beethoven – Symphony No.9 (10000 Japanese) – Freude schöner Götterfunken

Thanks very much for the temple to worship the music one more Sunday.

Here are two versions of a very famous piece, as the two performances are both worth sharing.

The time and effort by the orchestras and choruses to gather and rehearse for these is worth a thought.

Beethoven Symphony No. 9 – Mvt. 4 – Barenboim/West-Eastern Divan Orchestra

Another version

Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 23 – Anna Fedorova – Live Concert HD

We may be getting too much Beethoven and Tchaikovsky may be getting his feelings hurt with no attention so here he is in all his splendor.

Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. One

Yuja Wang: Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25

Yuja Wang performs Mendelssohn Concerto #1! From about ten years ago.

I really love these vibrant rousing pieces, and she really attacks it with great vigor.

This Next One Comes To Us Thanks To Former Mafioso nkit.

Mahler Symphony No. 5 – Adagietto

A favorite of mine, Myung-Whun Chung and the NHK Symphony Orchestra perform Mahler’s Symphony #5 – “Adagietto”

Anthony Aaron

This is what you hear when entering heaven …

The title says it all … and, as one comment reads: “That is one incredible voice the lead singer has. I never expected that from his appearance. It’s like hearing a lion’s roar coming from a sparrow.”

Benjamin Britten – The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra | Saraste | WDR Symphony Orchestra

The work is based on the Rondeau from Henry Purcell’s incidental music to Aphra Behn’s Abdelazer and is structured, in accordance with the plan of the original documentary film, as a way of showing off the tone colours and capacities of the various sections of the orchestra.

Dvorak : “New World” Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, op. 95

Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France

Conducted by Marzena Diakun

This amazing young conductor leads a beautiful performance of this magnificent symphony by Dvorak.

Donovan – Hurdy Gurdy Man – 1968

He had several hits … and always had an aura of a peace-loving soul … in the same manner as Cat Stevens (Jusuf Islam). This is one of his great hits —

John Denver – Rocky Mountain High (from The Wildlife Concert)

And … last, but not least, it would be ungentlemanly to forget to post at least one of Avalon’s favorites …

Steve C.

My grandfather got a ‘hi-fi’ in the mid-’50s … and one of his earliest records was by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir … their majestic rendering of The Battle Hymn of the Republic is one of my fond memories of music from that time.

The main difference between that recording and this is that the older recording featured the playing of that massive pipe organ in the background at the chorus … so majestic, so uplifting … so — ‘glorious’.

LOVE those mere toddlers and their rare skills for ones so young.
Thanks for those, Steven.
The multi instrument mastery of the Asian girl on the Hotel California vid with overlay is admirable.

For some reason, this contribution came to me this morning to submit in comments.
I was into this band bigtime in earlier years.
-Might have influenced my love for classical instruments, compositions, & harmonies in the R&R genre.
Note the shift in octaves at the 1:33 mark, if I have the music terminology correct.

Have a great Sunday All.

I have always been fascinated by Japan’s people and culture and have a big regret not ever having the opportunity to go there and experience it firsthand. Need a fix from one of our many sushi restaurants frequently where food is an art form.
This drum performance is fascinating. Think about the manufacturing of these drums!

This performance and the video production is an inspiration to kick-start a day for anyone!!
Reminded that MGM built a $100 Million dollar concert hall for her in Vegas, and provided a huge luxury house and a jet to take her back home to Quebec. With the concerts packed their return on the investment was for sure huge.

Interesting.
I like 2 by her.
She really belts it out on The Power of Love.
But her Orbison cover of I Drove All Night is pretty damn good, too.

And, yes…was aware of Lynne’s talents, far reaching.
The Wilburys are just a sampling, but a good one, that he influenced.
As a side, I miss Tom Petty, besides Roy. RIP, gents.

You’re a good consistent contributor to this feature, UD. Kudos.

Sunday is my favorite day as the music is the most important diversion from all the insanity now all around us.
A couple more that are marvelous. on Her Royalness.

The favorite Liszt performance!!

It always amazed me how often the UK musicians played on each other’s albums and even at their concerts … providing a richer experience for the listener or concert-goer …
