Leave Home

Guest Post by Jeff Thomas

As an increasing number of people realize that their home country is becoming a liability to them, the most common question I hear from them is, “What do I have to do to remain where I am and still be assured that I’ll be able to retain both my wealth and my freedom?”

The simple (and tragic) answer to this question is that there is no such solution. The two objectives are mutually exclusive.

Throughout the ages, whenever an empire has begun its inevitable collapse, no country has ever woken up and reversed the process. In every case, the government rides the decline to the bottom. And, along the way, a series of policies is invariably undertaken to save those in government in the downward rush. These policies are always at the expense of the populace.

Invariably, as the decline worsens, governments drag out the same policies that all other failing empires have implemented before them: Devaluation of currency, default on debt, increased warfare, creation of a police state and, finally, the looting of all those citizens who have even a modicum of wealth.

The question is not whether we like our home country as it presently is, but whether we’re prepared to accept what it’s about to become.

As people become more aware that their government is not only not their friend, but has become their greatest threat, it’s human nature to hope that “it won’t get any worse.”

And, of course, it then gets worse.

The great majority of people don’t actually try to escape until they find that they’re now trapped and cannot escape. (Curbing the outward flow is surprisingly easy for any government to achieve – by implying that those emigrating are enemies of the state. This time around, those attempting to exit will be called domestic terrorists.)

The time to make an exit is when the writing is on the wall, as it is now, but the empire has not reached its final stages of collapse. The exit doors, for the moment, remain open.

Each individual has to weigh at what point he’ll feel that the ever-expanding warfare, increasingly restrictive laws, the increase in police state, etc. have reached the point that the next step in the destruction of “inalienable” rights and confiscation of wealth (by whatever means) would be beyond the pale and make his exit prior to those eventualities.

This, of course, is a major decision. Until now, possibly the greatest decision in a person’s life was to leave home – Mom & Dad – and go out on his own. Now, a bigger decision looms – leaving everything that’s familiar and restarting life in a new country, albeit one that’s more promising than the one he’s leaving.

The next big question then is, “Where to Go?”

Won’t all other countries be pulled down by the collapse of the empire? No, not by a long shot. Whilst many countries are attached to the empire through trade and treaties, much of the world operates almost entirely independently. They are therefore likely to continue on as they have, whilst there is collapse elsewhere. (Remember, even in the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, the further someone lived from the epicenter, the less he was impacted.

In addition, there are some countries that will positively thrive as a result of the collapse. Historically, real wealth does not vanish, it just changes hands. And, at a time when wealth is doing the best it can to escape the collapsing empire, it has to go somewhere.

There’s an old saying that wealth gravitates toward wherever it’s treated best and this is never so true as when an economic crisis exists somewhere. Therefore, wealth will flow to those jurisdictions where taxes are low, regulations are minimal, government is stable and, most importantly, the government understands that they must treat foreign investors well, or they themselves will fail to prosper

Do not remain in a country that has something to gain by looting you. Choose a country that has more to gain by not looting you.

The final stage of collapse is invariably the looting of the public. By this point, the mask of government-as-protector has come off and the grab for the last dollar kicks in. The warning signs will have been increasing capital controls and increasing identification of all citizens, plus increased “transparency” of wealth. The first level of confiscation has already begun with increased taxation, inflation (the unseen tax) and Civil Asset Forfeiture. The final stages will be confiscation of deposits by banks, seizure of assets for trumped-up reasons and actual home raids for those who are rumoured to have ferreted away even small amounts of wealth.

But, as inevitable as the third level is, there are jurisdictions in the world that are either small and have minimal government, or that are larger and have an inefficient and ineffectual government. If these jurisdictions are to attract foreign investors, they must have:

  • A longstanding reputation for treating investors well
  • Laws that protect the investor in the future.
  • A government that’s aware that they do not possess the bullying power of an empire and understand that, if they fail to treat investors well at any point, the investors will pull out their wealth as quickly as possible.

In light of the above, we might revisit the opening question, “What do I have to do to remain where I am and still be assured that I’ll be able to retain both my wealth and my freedom?”

As stated, the two are mutually exclusive. To be sure, the latter half of the question is eminently possible, but it entails abandoning the first half of the question.

Leave Home.

It’s possible that there’s no location that you like as well as the one you’ve become accustomed to, but, if your home country has entered its decline, it may soon become unrecognizable.

There are most certainly locations that will be far more advantageous than an empire in decline. Seek them out.

Tidbit for those here who will eventually feel the need to flee 5G genocide. Recently, Putin outlawed 5G towers in Russia and ordered the existing towers to be torn down citing that 5G is a danger to the health of humans. The USA currently has 150,000 5G towers in place with more on the way.

Russia may be the place for you. Stucky, we may be in a Russian TBP enclave one day.

Russia is good, but if you don’t speak the lingo you iz fucked. Moreover, despite having much more freedom in Russia, the houses and appartments are pretty ugly compared to US suburbs. You will rarely find a house with bricks on the outside, a nice garden with mature trees and I believe that foreigners have to get blood tests and CT scans every year or two. What about just going GALT – it will speed up the collapse – get that shit over and done with

And having one built to your design -starting at 3 mio. Rubles (~$30,000) for a wooden house- is completely unacceptable, I presume.

Anon- Galt is good if there is no 5G to deal with, I’m at the doomstead this week which is in the middle of 200 Amish homesteads with no electricity or internet hook ups and I’m still not convinced that 5G won’t be a danger here. Backup plan is plan (C) the gulch in nowhere BFE, so yeah I’m with ya. It was tongue in cheek telling Stucky we would be going to Russia.

** The Amish caved and all of them have cell phones now. Oy!

Where to go and how to fit in is the primary questions to answer, and many related to these…

Much like eating an elephant, best to start small, and continue, one bite at a time, until you’ve completed the passport, new home and friendly neighbors…

Good luck!!! We’ll all need it!!

I guess being a stranger that sticks out in a foreign land is their plan. None of the locals will rip them off either. Being an American overseas is a good thing? stop pushing this wussy stuff of fleeing. The reset is being pushed everywhere. How many countries will require the jab and a vaccine passport? No guns for you. I could go on. But I won’t make you suffer any more of my writin.

You probably have some forefather that emigrated to the US from a different country… you think that was a bad choice?

We have the magic dirt here. If there were magic dirt anywhere else, then everybody else wouldn’t be coming here. Why would you leave magic dirt?

Seriously though, not all expat life is the same. The wealth bubble expat, the retired fixed income currency arbitrage expat, the social-cultural expat, the “I’ve got a little problem with the IRS” expat, etc.

I think what gets in a lot of our craws is when we see those people who seem to “get it” AND have the wealth and means to make a difference here, that are opting to leave in order to optimize their personal way of life elsewhere.

Then there are the very real points of YS.

Anyone who has even traveled overseas understands that by nature of just being on most places you are assumed to be rich and are thus a mark, a whale, and often a driver of micro-economics that are actively influencing the local economy – and thus culture, in ways that are not always appreciated.

And there is the contingent risk that goes exponential should things get spicy.

The remedy or mitigation is of course to “earn” your place among the locals, to respect their way of life and traditions, and adapt and conduct your life; accordingly, to use your wealth to better the lives around you. To become part of their community.

Well then. I’ve got a town in Appalachia that could also use a guy like you…

Thats the rub. At least for me. If its “I’m gonna get mine and take care of mine, full stop” Thats okay. just own it.

Judging the past with present values and judging the present with past values is sloppy.

You have every right to leave for any reason and I have every right to form my opinion based on that action. What is good/better in this context? Nonsense.

Whatever the reasons for my ancestors leaving their homelands of origin it is likely that their brothers left behind would have held them to account in some manner.

For fleeing the coming war. Or communist takeover. Or famine. Or for debts they could not service. Everyone across time has their reasons. So what then?

In some moment in a time that no longer exists in a nation that no longer exists those brothers would likely have held them in contempt for ceding the land that their own forefathers broke and held with their blood.

Yet many also likely cheered them on and would find themselves close behind. And even others who were pioneers, settlers, and not immigrants plugging into the established life. And so what then?

The moral argument of whether or not we have any duty to steward our heritage, fight to preserve our way of life as a people, serve and protect those institutions from which our wealth and comforts have been provided is one of our times, to be adjudicated in the present.

Not to be wound around some arc of extrapolation of the past and implied future in which some new nation might be shaped by those leaving this former nation thereby liberating the present from any reproach according to our present conditions.

Another argument can be made as to what point, if at all, that duty becomes subordinate to our duty to our families very existence. There are many such tugs upon the amoral and immoral from which we might guide or rationalize our choices.

And yet this article and discussion pertains to the preservation of wealth and the optimization of lifestyle maintenance that a priori negates that moral duty as, at best, an amoral aside subordinate to ones individual safety, enjoyment, and way of life that by its very nature ignores that same arc of history you propose.

It is quite reasonable for those of us bound by our belief in a higher cause and/or compelled toward preserving what our ancestors helped build here to call that into account, regardless of the choices of my prior greats. Except insofar as we see those prior choices as a long thread of great sacrifice and labor that has become a tapestry of our people, something worthy of our own labor and sacrefice.

Men who are compelled toward preserving their wealth above these discomforts and affronts should indeed leave if they choose. I pray they will serve God and their people in a way that I cannot know just as I cannot know what was in the hearts of my anscestors when it was their time to choose.

Or are you just being obtuse for its own sake?

The longer the answer the less arguments the author has.

You seem to meander between ‘values [to judge with] change over time’ and morals remain.
Plus nice cherry-picking on your side:
“be able to retain both my wealth and my freedom” was OP’s statement.
You do however in brief glimpses give at least lip service to other guideposts, such as “our duty to our families very existence.”

But in the end you entirely avoid the point I was making:
Hadn’t your long ago ancestors built something in Europe as well, before your forefather left that place?
But now -even though you feel fully informed about the present, enough to judge- you are unable to make even cautious preliminary judgement calls on things maybe 150 years ago – but want to reprimand me for asking the question?

Tidbit: if his facility in the local language is, or can become, good, the average norteamericano doesn’t really “stand out” in Argentina, Uruguay or southern Brazil.

FWIW Argentina has been described as the most “genetically European” country in the world, at least outside of Europe. Of course, if you find Spaniards and Italians objectionable, stay away.

The relentless pursuit of economic self-interest and the reduction of a people to conditions accretive or dilutive to one’s personal wealth is a big part of how we got here.

And in my experience as an American regional expat, a big part of why most are not part of the fight and will never become part of the fight.

The lens through which they view the world, and thus derive their purpose within it, does not change for reasons similar to Jeff’s mutually exclusive “wealth and freedom”.

They seek to serve the great transaction in the sky; a negotiation in perpetuity with a system designed to enslave them, in which their biggest fear is losing those material things subject to the laws of the universe controlled by that same system.

A community, to the economic opportunist, is about mere jurisdiction; economic, social, and political regulatory and risk metrics that can be quantified such that their wealth can be optimally deployed to maintain purchasing power vis a vis comforts, status, optionality, etc.

The irony of this value system of hyper-individualism, rootlessness, “freedom” to move, and pursuit of economic opportunity above all else being the underpinning of all the taglines of our downfall, i.e. Globalism, Free Trade, World Trade Organization, economic migrant, migrant labor, open borders, diversity, etc., is lost on them.

Yet. We are where we are, the open air mall and food court of the world called America, and every man has his reckoning.

Having turned away from the pursuit of wealth myself, I am admittedly a poor torch bearer of this entire world view.
Yet there are many days when my prior choices are like a punch to the gut because those very real trade-of wealth and freedom, i.e. the price to maintain one’s bubble against the rising tide of shit, visit upon me the reality that some struggle in this timeline would have once been so easily avoided. Yet I am still luckier than most.

I can respect men who have worked hard to capture or create wealth in a system that is obviously tilted against the majority of man. This is what most of us were taught by our elders to do. I don’t agree with a lot of their choices but try to remember God has a different plan for each of us.

But I’m also human and so on occasion let my frustration boil over. Covid really broke some cold hard clarity through my wistful idealism as to the actual mettle of men in current year. We are on our own. So be it. Oh, I guess buy gold too. Wouldn’t hurt.

Health officials are waiting to hear whether a “small number” of people in Northern Ireland have tested positive for the new variant of Covid-19.

Eris is a descendant of Omicron and has been in the news amid a rise in Covid cases, especially in England.

Was Reagan right ? Is America the last best hope ? I think he was right. If you live in America just exactly where do you think you are going ? The left is attacking all the so called civilized nations – Europe, Australia, New Zealand, America, you name it. There is nowhere to go. How about we knuckle down and defend America ? We are going to have to. I believe there is some serious stuff coming. It is a fourth turning. The left is not going to allow the people of America to vote them out of power. It is just not going to happen. At this point so many people have committed so many serious crimes (just think of all the crimes committed at the DOJ/FBI during the Russian Collusion hoax) it has become a matter of self preservation. They simply can not allow Trump or RFK Jr to win the 2024 election. They will do whatever it takes to save themselves – period. I am not even sure there will be a 2024 election. There is no statute of limitations for treason. Treason was committed by many people in an effort to take down a legitimate government. They failed. If Trump manages to be on the ballot in 2024 they can not allow him to win. They will do whatever it takes to stop him. It is going to get really really ugly between now and the election. People need to prepare for what is to come. If you live in a city you need to make sure you have a place to go outside of the city to flee to. You will need cash, gold/silver, freeze dried food for say 6 months, weapons and know how to use them, plenty of ammo, energy sources (generator, solar, propane, gas, etc.), seeds to grow food, if you live outside of a city you need to start thinking about how to defend your house. There are many excellent books. “Sheep No More” is a good one. A character named Max Velocity has a series of good books on tactics of various kinds. Buy the books – read them. Do the exercises in them. Think about what you are doing and going to do. Make friends with your neighbors. Look around where you live to see if there are farmers. Make friends with the farmers. Everyone needs to start thinking about this stuff.

They will get a conviction in the District of Corruption, regardless of the evidence. State AG’s in some key states will immediately declare Trump to be ineligible to run per the “insurrection” clause of the 14th Amendment. There will be enough swing states jumping on board that an electoral majority will be impossible.

Timing will be such that he will have already won the nomination after having decimated all of his opponents. GOPe will pick a “safe” candidate with ZERO chance of winning the general election.

>>>It’d be a lot easier for a young man

Age is the crucial factor for most.

After age 40 or so, ‘starting over’ in a new country is problematic, if only because your family, friends and job/professional relationships are all back on your home turf… not to mention the matter of language.

After age 50, I suggest just hunkering down in an appropriate locale within the FUSA, unless you’re fleeing serious legal/tax problems.

For a young man, I do suggest that he look very seriously at establishing himself elsewhere; the FUSA will a very “interesting” place for the next decade or three, and a better life (however personally defined) may well be more attainable elsewhere. I have told my own young male relatives my opinion… but they seem to think I’m joking.
