AI & Self-Awareness

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

Let me explain something. Most generative AI models today are being trained and run in the cloud. These models are language-oriented, generating text. They are often at least 10 times to 100 times bigger than older AI models. ChatGPT is learning from the question people are asking. While this is impressive to the average person, there is no real economic value other than adding to the search function. This has resulted in a boom along with an insatiable appetite for running large language models at this point in time.

Even dogs have personalities. My little one will take a pill covered in peanut butter. The older one takes the peanut butter and spits out the pill. Just like having two children, they are not the same. What causes one to have a personality that is different from the other? I’m afraid I have to disagree with this theory that if you throw in enough data, suddenly, the computer will become self-aware. My little dog was just 11 weeks old. She is still exploring her environment, displaying curiosity, so she has a distinct personality BEFORE acquiring knowledge of her environment. This PROVES beyond a shadow of a doubt that this theory of a computer becoming self-aware is just nonsense. We do not teach our children how to be self-aware. They are born that way.

There is something there that creates the personality, and it appears from birth in dogs and humans. My dogs clearly think dynamically. If I get up with a coffee cup, they know I am going to the kitchen and heading there. Not all animals have that ability. So why are dogs capable of looking for patterns and anticipating my next move, and a hippo, snake, or alligator is not?

I do not believe we are anywhere close to comprehending those differences, and as such, we cannot create a true cognitive machine that is self-aware when we do not understand what makes us self-aware.

To build Socrates, I had to study intensely how we actually think. Let’s say you met the person who is your soul mate. You went to dinner. Your mind is actually recording every aspect of that evening, and you are totally unaware of what it is recording. Years later, you return to that same restaurant, and that memory involuntarily comes rushing to the forefront of your mind. Or there was music playing that night, and suddenly you hear that same song, and that memory again involuntarily comes to mind. Perhaps it is the food. The point is that memory is stored, but any of our senses can access it. The complexity is enormous.

My oldest dog does not like going to the Vet. She even knows her surroundings. Miles from the place, she knows where I am going and begins to tremble. She is aware of her surroundings miles from home, which astonished me. It was not a capability I assumed a dog would have. A dog stayed with a two-year-old girl who went missing and always protected her.

There is a lot more hidden within us and many animals that cannot be explained or recreated by a computer.

Just be careful with claims suddenly of people coming up with AI trading programs. It took me 17 years to build Socrates. You cannot create an AI trading program in a few weeks. As for hiring, yes, of course. We always have projects under development.

The danger of AI is that the average normie will believe in it’s sentience. Elites managing the controls while the plebes just do whatever the AI says, because its the AI.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom why such a large percentage of the population needs to be told what to think, how to be, and who to ‘follow’. It is just sickening.

I agree with you. All of the talk and hype that we presently hear about AI is just the chumming of the waters for the normies. The day will come when they will be told to do whatever AI tells them to because it will have digested the totality of knowledge and therefore know what is best for everyone. Of course, the normies will do as instructed, either because of the conditioning or because they have no choice due to being injected with the hive mind software or both.
At the same time, I do wonder what the actual state of development the AI is at? Certainly it is more developed than we presently know.

Your comment made me think of the voice assisted driving directions.
A virtual “learn how to follow the directions from the device” classroom.

Similar with the voice answers, and those Alexa “concierge” listening devices.

People often assume the first answer they get after asking a question, is the correct answer.
As another article on TBP about charGPT revealed, the chat program will repeatedly, lie, obfuscate, dodge, and divert before finally admitting the truth.
The programs are garbage.
It should be called PolitiChatGPT

The purpose of these programs may be to eventually replace the search engine/open internet model.
Every question will go through the AI, which will direct all questions to the dot.gov approved answers.
There will be no answers outside of State Department of Truth and Disnfo approved answers.
The Chat will also notify dot.gov of all searches outside of an arbitrary “average” and agents will be around in a jif to make sure you are ok.

They could be taking one of the most astonishing accomplishments of mankind (open internet) and rendering it completely neutered and worthless to the user, but a tool of total oppression for those with the power.

Just pondering…

I cannot fathom why such a large percentage of the population needs to be told what to think

It is part of what is referred to as the “human condition”. Most, if not all, of what we believe is programed into us by society. Most people do not question that programing. It’s easier to go along and get along. Sometimes I wonder if we are not more like AI than we realize.

Most, if not all, of what we believe is programed into us by society. Most people do not question that programing.

And the good chunk of those who do question, often succeed in uncovering only some of the programming.

Ocassionally a waking person will be bogged down in one of the lie
categories.
Some become consumed with exposing medical lies, others are obsessed with exposing religion, or politicians, food additives, fluoride, and countless other categories which can swallow a man whole.

Few make it all the way across the rubicon.
Be that as it may?
This is how it has always been.
Some humans advance and learn a lot in their lives, some advance and learn very little.
___
To decode the programming.
Start with trying to rememeber how one viewed the world as a toddler. Then try to recall in life who, why, when, where one was handed, (or voluntarily picked up) one’s lifetime collection of beliefs about: health, religion, politics, nature etc.
This can reveal a lot.

Our living brain IS a figurative time machine. It remembers all that crap because we are supposed to be learning from it.
At least I think that may have been the intention of the hardware and software package.

“I am living flesh and flowing blood, nothing stands between me and my creator.”

I wonder if we are not more like AI than we realize.

Excellent rhetorical question.

Very happy to see you are not delusional in all topics, or did you lay off the meds today? Yes the mind runs a lot like AI. Look how alcohols and drug addicts love it, for a while, even though it is killing them. All minds are run by Satan except when activated by the spirit of God. This is why prayer, contemplation and reading of sacred scripture is so important. It helps lean mind toward God, instead of towards sin. The Gnostics had many faults, but they understood this well.
